Nice Warm Saturday
Oct. 10th, 2020 11:32 pmYeah, got into the mid-70s today -- we had the windows open (though I didn't open all of mine all the way, since it was also pretty damn windy), and I didn't even need a hoodie for the beanbag game this afternoon! Still pretty warm now, honestly, though it's supposed to get colder tomorrow. And then rain on Monday -- ah well. A day off is a day off, even if it rains.
As non-cleaning Saturdays go, can't say I had many complaints about this one:
-->Watched a bunch of various little YouTube videos:
A) Started off with something inspired by my TV Tropes reading in the morning – the MST3K: The Movie deleted scenes! Or a couple of them, anyway. Apparently there was a whole sequence with a meteor shower where the bots had to save Mike from suffocating after the air was damaged, and a different ending where the gang took out Dr. Forrester temporarily with a MutAnt, only for Crow to start chainsawing through the SOL in an escape attempt (a call back to him trying to tunnel through it with a pickax at the start of the film). Good stuff, and I'm sorry it was cut (and according to TV Tropes, so were the MST3K crew).
B) Then a quick Call Me Kevin clip compilation – this one about representing 2020 through clips of Kevin's videos (like COVID-19 being represented by him playing Plague, Inc.). Funny, if depressing in just how accurate it actually was.
C) Then it was over to Plumbella for her thoughts about the Sims 4 skintone update that didn't do as much as what it promised. She made a whole little PowerPoint presentation that could basically be summed up as "if you'd only TALK TO US MORE, and not in the performative 'occasional letter saying you're fixing stuff' way you tend to these days. . ." Apparently the devs on TWITTER have been open about the fact that there were more problems than they first thought when they did the update, but there's been no official word on the matter, and Plumbella thinks that's the biggest issue. We keep telling them what we want to see, and they keep apparently ignoring us. . .and then when they DO reach out, they don't do so effectively, preferring to just shove something half-baked out the door and hope we don't notice. (We notice.) It's sad, and even she says she doesn't ENJOY pointing out all the bullshit in the game, but she feels its her duty as a SimsTuber and especially as a Gamer Changer. (Though I'm starting to worry she's going to be stripped of that title in the near future as the Gurus finally get sick of her trying to get some change going. . .)
D) On a slightly more pleasant note, regarding what the COMMUNITY does to fix the game, Carl and his Sim Guides provided a nice video detailing over 50 mods he thinks are awesome and really improve the game! Stuff like functional chicken coops and nectar makers from Icemunmun, TwistedMexi's various build/buy updates (like Better Build/Buy's increase in rows and giving debug items NAMES), Zero's work with Occults (like having Sims specialize in certain magical schools, or making vampires into spellcasters), LittleMissSam's small mods – the list was pretty extensive! Really makes me want to get back into Sims 4 modding – I've been keeping it light to stop my game exploding with every patch, but. . .
E) Then a skip over to Fun With Shorts while I was waiting for the latest version of MC Command Center to copy into my Mods folder – a "Mel-O-Toon" all about Columbus, the genocidal bastard! This was a standard "sanitized, cutesy version of history" tune about how he "discovered" America, and Josh did not hold back when it came to his riffs! Solid stuff, especially his closer about this being made in 2020 by executive order. (I mean, I like having a day off, but it really should be an Indigenous People's Day or similar.)
F) Then, later tonight, it was time for more Among Us with Call Me Kevin! No gimmick from Kevin today, just going to random lobbies as "A Mistake" and encountering some really weird people. Like someone who was surprisingly vocal about playing in the same room as one of the others. XD Or a pair named "mum" and "dad" who kind of adopted Kevin for a couple of games (well, dad did, mum ended up killing him – and then it turned out THEY were playing together as well). And, once again, Kevin upset someone, that someone turned on him with all-caps bad language, and Kevin got them voted off for being a jerk. And then it turned out they were an impostor anyway, so then he got accused of cheating XD It was good times.
G) Also good times? A bit of GrayStillPlays and:
1. More Happy Wheels! :D With a fair amount of special GrayStillPlays levels. Like a bottle run designed by Satan (very long and it looks like the bottles DROP OUT at one point), or a bottle flip where you have to throw one down a weird rainbow tube to win (Gray managed to get Nixon's severed arm down that one), or a level where, if you try to use the secret passage at the bottom, you're going to get crushed by the moon (Gray thought he was being so clever). I love watching him struggle in this game, it's always such a delight. XD
2. I Am Your President, where Gray became the world's second-worst president (we all know who the worst is). He strove toward world domination, allowed one of his staffers to strike deals with "Screecher," and even refused to let a diagnosis of "your job is literally killing you" slow him down. XD He didn't manage to actually dominate the world, but he did manage to fire his entire cabinet at the end, so – small victories? XD
-->Played some Sims 4 -- EVENTUALLY. First, I had to force a shutdown on my computer because I noticed it was showing some signs of running slow, and as I had a patch to install from earlier this week (the "didn't quite fix skintones" patch), I thought restarting would be a good idea to help avoid problems downloading it.
That didn't fucking work. Between the shutdown, struggling to log into Origin, and having to restart downloading the patch three times because the download speed kept dropping to nil, it took me about an HOUR to get the game into a playable state. And even then, I didn't get to play right away, because Mom called me away for the beanbag game. I was almost ready to just shut down when I came back in, but I figured I should at least reenable my mods. . .and that led to me going ahead and doing a bit more work on my wizard tower renovation. Mainly switching the potions room and the bedroom, and playing around with the stairs to get them into a decent configuration that leaves me the most floor space to work with. Stairs be hard, yo! But I think I have something workable now. . .we'll see later!
-->As stated multiple times now, we had another five games of beanbag toss -- Mom and Dad both won two, and I won one. Hey, at least I won! I had a pretty bad start at the beginning of the first game, so any victory is good.
-->Got in some writing -- worked some more on another one of those character survey things I'm planning to post on my tumblr. Having my Victor and Alice from "Tell Me Where To Find Shelter"/"Fallout Of Darkness" answer this one IC -- it's been fun! :)
-->Have ended up taking the night off active RP over on my Valice Multiverse tumblr -- I was barely feeling the queue last night thanks to my period, so I decided not to overstress myself today. I made a post and am dropping what I have into my queue.
And now it's time to finish up that, and do a couple of DW comments. Tomorrow, plan to catch up on my OXBox and OXtra videos, play some more Fallout 4 (still have that cooking mod to test) -- and oh yeah, Jon's next Fallout 4 video comes out tomorrow! Should be the second half of "Fallout 4 Is Better Than You Think," so that'll be fun. :) Maybe I'll check out some of his other videos too -- I'm already watching his early Survival runthrough with my workouts, but I think he did some mod videos too. . .could be fun!
But that's currently for later. Got other stuff to do now. So night all!
