crossover_chick: Doc looking very sarcastically over his shoulder (BTTF: in a sarcastic mood)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
Unfortunately, I was kind of grouchy a good portion of the day -- I blame waking up earlier than I wanted after having a bit of trouble going to sleep (my brain was still stuck on my FO4Edit problem from the other day), and just having an unfortunately high anxiety day. Hopefully this is not the start of more bullshit this week!

Anyway, let's see how I did on the to-do list:

Figure out this Fallout 4 nonsense: Kind of. After some more Googling, I accepted the only way to get the version of xEdit/FO4Edit I needed was to go onto the xEdit Discord, which -- I did not WANT to make a Discord account. But I did make one (setting everything so no one can try to friend me or anything), and got the build I needed. And then decided, "I'm here, let's see what people here say about Nuka-World."

Yup, confirmed that the "stable" version on NexusMods, which has not been updated for about a year at this point, does indeed screw something up internally with Nuka-World. A problem they've known about for some months now. And, apparently, people on the Discord channel are like, "oh, if you have the Unofficial Patch, you don't need to clean DLC" and I'm just like "CAN THE PEOPLE DOING THE MODDING AGREE ON WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO MAKE SURE YOUR GAME PLAYS CORRECTLY"

So yeah. Fortunately for me, I DO have the original uncleaned versions of the .esm files (because backups), and I have the RIGHT version of xEdit if I want to do some cleaning. But I never actually booted up the game, mostly because I am Very Sour about all of this. Again, EA is a piece of shit video game company too, but at least modding Sims 4 is largely a no-brainer. And I still have no idea about being able to save the Victor Van Dort I made. . . I dunno. Maybe I'll put up a help post on tumblr and see if it gets any action?

Watch the two remaining videos in Watch Later: Check! We had --

A) The latest Atop The Fourth Wall, with the Awesome Comics Holiday Special! Featuring Rob Liefeld and Alan Moore! ...Yeah, as you might imagine, it was pretty crap. Two of the stories were short, largely contextless fight scenes, and one was actually the prologue to starting up a new Youngblood team that featured grown mean leering at teenage/just-out-of-teenagerdom girls because they could (the specific example was a dude watching a video of a speedster changing outfits fifteen times). The one good story (and the only one that could be said to properly relate to Christmas) was one about a super hero with explosion-power gloves that got a weird message from a beam of light about his apparently-not-dead mother while Christmas shopping with his friends. Still confusing, but more pleasant to look at, with decent characters and seasonal greetings! This show really lowers your standards for “good comic” sometimes. XD

B) Time for the Glitchless Speedrun of Fallout 4 I was hoping to watch! As it turned out, this video by tomatoanus (look, I don’t know why he named himself that) was actually sort of a “best of” his actual hour and forty-four minute run, with him doing commentary to explain all of his little “speed up” tricks (and make jokes about how he uses his “big gun skills” to convince Kellogg to hand over his cybernetic implants (aka he shoots him with a Fat Man) or gives the settlers at Tenpines Bluff two bullets to help them fight off the raiders (he shoots the quest-giver in the head while the guy sleeps to fail the quest – though, to be fair, I’m pretty sure he spared the other settler)). He ended the run siding with the Institute as that’s the fastest way to beat the game, so I finally got a quick look at the ending cinematic for THAT version of the ending. All in all, it was a fun time, and I’ll probably be checking out more of his speedruns during my time off!

Watch the OXBox X-Mas Challenge: Check! :D Andy taking on the “Silent Knife, Holy Knife” challenge in Resident Evil 3 Remake, which entails – downing the Nemesis character (as terrifying T-Virus monster in a trenchcoat that relentlessly chases poor Jill and I’m PRETTY sure can’t be taken down permanently by anything less than a rocket launcher – hurt him enough and he will go down to one knee for a bit, though), using only the knife. O.o Go big or go home with this first challenge, eh guys? Mike, as official judge of the challenge, allowed Andy three goes, three healing items per go, and one handgun with ammo to take care of the OTHER zombies. He also later ruled that if Andy could get the Nemesis to walk through fire, that would also be allowed. Sadly, Andy did not manage that, or any downing – while he was always able to get a few stabs on Nemesis, his dodge game was just off enough that he never even got near getting Nemesis to a knee before Jill was flattened. So Andy starts off with a big fat goose egg in the scores, and Jane is up tomorrow! We’ll see what she gets. . .

Watch Jon's FO4 YOLO vid: Check! Today’s main goals – clear out a few of the smaller quests in the Pip-Boy; clear out the raiders who live along the river route through Boston; make friends with the Railroad and do a few of their missions. John managed the first of these pretty easily – delivered a bloatfly gland to the science lab; got “View from the Vault” from Publick Occurrences; snuck off to Hardware Town, managed to kill the two raiders round the back and sneak inside to mix some green paint before delivering it to that guy painting the Wall. Clearing out the raiders along the river proved to be – trickier. He was doing all right at first, taking out raiders here and there along the path – and then he got to an encampment near the Old North Church, and it all kind of went to hell, with Finalley being spotted and ending up trapped for a little while behind some old cars on a dock. Most of the hits were just fractions of a point, but she did lose ten to one lucky shot – and while there was a legendary she managed to murder, he had absolutely pointless gear on him (Incendiary – has a chance to set melee attackers on fire, which – yeah). Worse yet, he didn’t manage to clear out all the raiders right away – it took him coming back to finally murder the lot! On the plus side, he was able to loot a very nice Combat Rifle from Jack Cabot’s place, along with a new Fat Man launcher. . . As for the Railroad, he got the special “Wanderer” codename, bought Tinker Tom’s Special just to rip the mods off it for his other sniper rifle (this is allowed, since he’s not using the actual gun with the actual legendary effect – in fact, he sold it back to Tom once he was done), and got “Boston After Dark” to complete his loyalty missions and start the path to getting ballistic weave. He swung by Bunker Hill, met up with Stockton, and left as Carla left, using her to help him take care of some Raiders at BADTFL –

And then remembered that this general area is where Automatron starts. Which is the DLC with the roving murder deathbots.

Cue Jon desperately pleading for all the NPCs not to get involved so the DLC didn’t officially start and he didn’t have to deal with the Rust Devils and their friends. XD Also having to burn criticals against the raiders in the church he was supposed to secure, and having a hell of a time getting his synth “package” to his destination because of raiders, super mutants, and slowly depleting ammo for his best gun. Fortunately, he managed to complete the mission, get a good night’s sleep (without any new diseases), and report back to HQ to turn that in and get another level-up!

And then P.A.M. asked him to secure Outpost Zimonja as a Railroad safehouse, which – well, I remember THAT from the Survival playthrough. Might be the last episode, folks, if he doesn’t come up with a plan! But he does seem to have a plan for SOMETHING. . .which he isn’t telling us about until next week. >.< Jooooon. . .

Another gift fic or gift fic edit: Check! Edited another DW friend's gift fic today, lovely. . .and better yet, I have the requests from the three friends I was still waiting on, so I can start working on those tomorrow! :) Between writing those up and finishing up edits, I should be done by Christmas Eve. . .

Get in a workout: Back on the bike today, and that means more of Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! Jumped back him with him releasing Jenny from her confinement – unfortunately, he decided to stick to the spirit of his Brotherhood run and ended up shooting her before leaving Greentech. :( Welp, to be fair, he IS siding with the anti-synth, anti-ghoul, anti-everything faction, sooo. . . And he got his karma for it later – after heading to the Railroad and having them decode the chip so he could take it back to Virgil, he wasted a vertibird signal grenade in a spot where a vertibird couldn’t land! And he only had two left, which he was TRYING to save for the trip into and then out of the Glowing Sea, where Virgil lives, so. . . He headed back home instead to sleep a bit and drop off his power armor to end out episode 27, and started episode 28 heading back to the Prydwen to restock on his signal grenades – and, just for funsies, open up the tiny Boston Airport settlement that adjoins onto their base. He headed out to see Virgil (taking rads all the while), got his teleporter schematics, then took a vertibird back to the Castle to see about supply lines and whatnot. . .

Only to walk right into a Rust Devil attack. With two legendaries. So that was – fun. XD Must have been revenge for stealing Jezebel from their base. . .anyway, with the help of some Psycho Jet, he was able to kill them, get some legendary lever-action rifles (Explosive and Irradiated), and then get in a nap to help refresh his health. And then after his nap, he discovered the Castle wasn’t set up with a supply line, and none of the Minutemen hanging around could be assigned to one, and he didn’t have the supplies for a recruitment beacon, so no extra supplies or decontamination arch after his trip to the Glowing Sea. More karma for Jenny! After all that, he decided to visit a location he hadn’t really been to before – University Point! Seems like someone staying in the Dugout Inn suggested it as a good place to learn about “the monsters of the Institute,” and he was curious. He had to stop at the basement of a church on the way there, though, to see what secrets IT held. . .mainly a bunch of ghouls and a cat. And what looked like a shrine to said cat. It’s – creepy, in its own way? Admittedly mostly FUNNY, but. . .

Hopefully review that other chapter: Unfortunately not -- the last chapter of the fic I'm on is long, and I was distracted by the Fallout 4 nonsense, among other things. Maybe sometime this week, but it's much more likely to be next weekend -- perhaps Saturday after cleaning.

And now, Other Things of Note:

-->One of the other things I was distracted with? It being a nice day (60 degrees! And yet there's a possibility of a nasty snow storm Wednesday afternoon. New England weather, folks!), so Mom deciding to put up some Christmas decorations outside! I was thrown off by her request at first, but went out to help stick snowflakes on the front wall and suchlike. So yeah, we're Christmassed up on the outside at least.

-->Also, Mom getting the boxes of decorations also got wrapping paper and bows, so she encouraged me to use them to wrap my presents. Did so, and they're ready to go whenever we Christmas it up inside.

-->One off-the-list video for YouTube: a quick “Weekend Update” video from SNL about the Trump lawsuits being thrown out and the COVID vaccine – nothing too special, I just like the jokes and how the two anchors can’t keep a straight face through the jokes. XD

And that's about it, really. Gotta answer my comments and finish up the thread reply I have on Valice Multiverse, then hit the sheets. One week to get through. . .which might be shorter than expected, depending on how the snow situation midweek turns out. *shrugs* We shall see! In the meantime, though, gotta finish up my stuff. Night all!
