crossover_chick: Doc snoozing on his couch (BTTF: exhausted)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
Doesn't help that it was Daylight Savings Time last night, so there's a bit of lag from the internal clock being off. Woke up early and kind of tired, and it took a bit to get my brain properly whirring again. At least I have some extra sleeping-in time to reset tomorrow!

As for my to-do list -- fortunately, was still pretty productive:

1. Keep up with the FO4 Playthrough Progression: Check – my notes continue to grow with each play session (as per below)! Victor and Preston are definitely getting a lot closer now (since, you know, I triggered TWO affinity conversations this time around), and they’re making good progress in helping out existing settlements and setting up new ones. Though Victor IS going to Diamond City after this particular jaunt to clear out and set up Sunshine Tidings – doing Minutemen stuff is important, but plot is important too! (Just so easy to get caught up in this portion of the gameplay. . .)

2. Keep up with YouTube Subs, the latest AT4W, and Jon's F:NV "Utter Chaos" video: Check – all four in and out with no trouble, yay~

A) Started this afternoon with the latest Atop The Fourth Wall – “Armageddon 2001,” the first of this year’s Event Comics Month! It is a very sad example of how companies are so terrified of having twists spoiled that they will wreck their own stories to keep the surprise. Namely, the FIRST issue is an amazing look at a dystopian society of 2030, ruled over by “The Monarch,” a superhero turned tyrant villain who has police who shoot first and ask no questions and outlaws even the IDEA of heroism. Our protagonist, desperate to stop him, ends up managing to get the guy to allow him to become a guinea pig for a time travel experiment, with the hope of going back in time and stopping, and ends up becoming Waverider, a new time-themed superhero who has the ability to look at potential futures for people. Then Waverider goes through a bunch of annual issues of other superhero comics to look at their potential futures to try and determine who The Monarch is (visiting Superman three times and Batman twice in the process because they had multiple lines running), and then in the SECOND issue – the person set up to be The Monarch is suddenly revealed to NOT be, and The Monarch uses the time travel experiment to travel back in time himself and create himself – using a hero that was PREVIOUSLY PROVEN TO BE THE ONLY HERO WAVERIDER COULD KNOW FOR SURE WASN’T HIM! (Hawk from the Hawk & Dove duo, if you’re curious – their annual was the ONLY one that specifically had a Monarch future, and had them FIGHTING the guy.) This is because their original hero-turned-villain, Captain Atom, was leaked, and they were so desperate to keep the twist they were willing to throw out previous continuity. Linkara was fuming over it, saying that there was no need to throw away such great potential because of the spoiled twist, and if they HAD to change things, a much better option was staring them in the face – WAVERIDER HIMSELF. He admitted to some voyeuristic impulses and feeling like he was doing all this for less-than-noble reasons, so him realizing he’d accidentally made HIMSELF The Monarch and vowing to do better. . .meeeh. Throw in that the first and last books were written by two different writers with very different styles, and it’s just a sad tale of an event that COULD have been great. *pats Linkara* Ah well – that’s what fanfiction is for?

B) Then, this evening, we popped into the Subs for the latest from Call Me Kevin – “Adding guns to Minecraft was a mistake!” Yes, that’s right – our boy found a mod that adds a gun workbench and some guns to Minecraft, if you have the iron for it. Kevin started a Hardcore Mode game and promptly found himself a cool buried shipwreck on the beach, which he spent some time digging out and converting into a little base. From there he headed out into the wider world in search of iron, coming across a rather poorly-built village on top of a chasm with a few rich veins of iron within. After smelting down the iron, he was able to make himself a pistol and some ammo, and started going to town! On a passing merchant with his llamas, a number of monster spawns (he no longer fears creepers – at least, until he notices his health is really low), and an Illager citadel (which had imprisoned a couple of iron golems – which Kevin chose to free instead of breaking down for more iron O.o That’s unusual Kevin behavior in this sort of game). His pistol served him well for most of the game, but then the monsters started coming on thick and strong, and his health kept getting into the danger zone. So it was time to break out the big guns – literally! Getting a minigun and a bazooka to take out enemies from afar, to be precise. Kevin decided the best use for these weapons would be to blow up the Illagers (instead of the nearby village, as he was trying to be nice for once). . .

And then he accidentally blew HIMSELF up with the bazooka taking out a nearby zombie. Meaning, because it was in Hardcore, his entire spawn was lost. :( And so we see why we need gun control, folks – to stop people like Kevin semi-literally rocketing themselves out of the world. :p

C) Then it was time for GrayStillPlays and more Happy Wheels! We started with a St. Patty’s Day bottle flip (where you had to get the pot of gold to win), then moved onto a Reginald Run (bicycling over a bunch of Reginald clones to reach the Minecraft portal – Gray exploded but still somehow won?); a tricky rope swing in blue (in which Gray managed to constantly save himself from disaster and actually won with only one arm attached); an “adventure” board full of traps (like a very tricky “ride through the spikes” bit, a wrecking ball, and a ball fall with some VERY narrow gaps – Gray spent a lot of time here); a rotating “escape the box” where you had to get the coin (took a couple of tries, but Gray managed to grab the right bit to swing himself out into the coin before hitting the spike floor); a drive in a derp tank (smashing all in its path!); a trip over the cliffs to the cave (where you had to land on a rocket-powered log JUST RIGHT to seesaw your way up and over into the cave); a “chad drop” where Nixon was pummeled with just about EVERYTHING (including arrows, rockets, and general agony – he did get both wins, though!); and one of Dylan Snyder’s story boards, where Bike Dad and Son must ride a bloody path through the neighborhood to get Dad’s tools back from the neighbor kid after she stole them to copy Son’s tree house (including blowing up a man with a mine and shoving a blind guy into an ax). Just another day in Happy Wheels land!

D) And, finally, we had Jon’s weekly F:NV “Utter Chaos” video! Today, Jon was determined to get through some of the Honest Hearts DLC (having discovered that the place he needed to go to meet Joshua Graham was RIGHT ACROSS FROM HIS ATTEMPT TO COMPLETE LONESOME ROAD) and ended up actually doing most of Dead Money instead. “Utter Chaos,” everyone! It’s actually pretty simple as to why this happened, though: Jon keeps easily finding the locations in Dead Money (he already had the Tampico, where he could kill Dean Domino with his beloved grenades), but apart from that cave where he ran into reshuffled no-longer-burned-and-in-a-nice-suit Joshua to pick up his initial quests, he’s having very little luck finding where he needs to go in Honest Hearts – not even the quest markers are cooperating thanks to the broken, randomized doors. He keeps being sent through random places and then the game directs him into the outer void. To be fair, he WAS at least able to get over to one place on his list – a wrecked bus of scouts to find a compass, don’t ask me why, I know very little about F:NV – but that’s only because that’s in the overworld, and he had to fight his way past multiple robots, super mutants, and other nasties to get it. And then, when he repaired the compass and brought it to Graham, he’d fucked off. Lovely.

So yeah, Honest Hearts isn’t exactly working, but fortunately Jon is still making progress. He was able to clear out some randomized Nightkin from an area by discovering the Stealth Boys they wanted had been sent to another area, so if he can find the person to turn the quest into, that’s sorted; he found a Fiend hideout that HADN’T been properly randomized, allowing him to kill all those people and pick up a part for the Brotherhood so he can complete their thing without blowing them up; and, as stated, he made some good progress with Dead Money – killing Dean Domino, then finding his way into the Sierra Madre Lobby, where one of the final “companions” he had to kill – Dog or God, they seem to be a duo though I don’t know which is which – was actually already dead. And by going and getting himself gassed by checking out the door, he got a load of XP and moved into the next part of that quest. Now he just has to find a certain restaurant to get the holotape there and move things along. . .I mean, we’ll see what happens next week! Probably he’ll accidentally complete Old World Blues while trying to find another way into Lonesome Road or something.

3. Steam Sunday -- get and play through Aperture Desk Job, then play Fallout 4 and start working on getting Victor toward Diamond City: Check! And how amusing it was:

Aperture Desk Job – as I’ve stated in previous updates, this is Valve’s latest mini-game, intended as a tech demo for their new Steam Deck handheld system, but you’re allowed to play it through Steam itself if you have a controller. I do indeed – an XBox 360 controller that’s been hanging around ever since I purchased it to play Alice: Madness Returns – so I downloaded it and gave it a spin. The gist is that you are a recently-hired product inspector, looking at and testing toilets with the help your Aperture super-desk and the “help” of the core Grady. An accident with an early, rather more explosive toilet leads to a bunch of ammunition being dumped in said toilet, and – well. Let’s just say the history of the famous Aperture Turret involves rather more cisterns and fighting off killer washing machines and stoves than you might think. Also more jail time. And Cave Johnson. And witness protection. XD It’s a ridiculous-but-fun mini-game that you can finish in roughly a half-hour (my personal playthrough was 32 minutes), though you may want to linger just to hear all the dialogue, and the game doesn’t always make it obvious how you do certain things if you’re NOT on the Steam Deck (hint – when Grady tries to introduce “gyroscopic controls,” just do what you did before with the previous button combos, because obviously you can’t tilt either the controller or your actual COMPUTER to aim). Look, if you’re just desperate for some more stuff set in the Portal universe, and you’ve always wanted to shoot up a good chunk of Aperture, this is for you. XD

Fallout 4 – Okay, this one was a little less amusing, just because it started with a crash – turns out talking to Preston while he’s glitching his way onto a couch isn’t something the game likes. Fortunately, LEAVING the little bunker behind Starlight’s screen and THEN speaking to him allowed me to turn in “Troubled Waters” without issue. Preston of course then wanted to immediately talk retaking the Castle (as a rad storm blew in, of course) – I had Victor say he’d think about it and get back to him. I don’t intend to get back to him until AFTER I’ve done a bit more of the main plot, thanks. XD But Preston did give me another quest – go to Sunshine Tidings Co-Op and clear the enemies there to make a new settlement! And since, if I remember correctly, that settlement has a magazine that doubles the meat you get off most kills, I figured that was worth doing.

First things first, though – waiting out the radstorm, then doing a bunch of crafting to try and use up some junk, improve armor and guns, and make Starlight Drive-In a little nicer. Victor put some more pockets on his armor, then upgraded Righteous Authority with a better scope and a better capacitor, and moved his shotgun up to Advanced (93 damage now, w00). Preston was sufficiently admiring of all this crafting to tell Victor that he thinks he’s awesome, and to thank him for taking on the impossible duty of being General of the Minutemen. :) From there, Victor set up a few more things for defense – another turret and another guard post, though I couldn’t find any unassigned settlers to guard it – a scrap bench so another unassigned settler could have a job, and made the little shacks the settlers are living in a touch more homey (dressers, steamer trunks, a few pictures on the walls, and a Minutemen flag on the workshop shack). With that all sorted, he and Preston set out for Sunshine Tidings in the pouring rain around 6:30 PM. First thing they found was a derailed train, with ammo, radaway, butter, and a set of power armor behind a mag-locked door! Victor was able to crack the nearby terminal to open it, but I haven’t had him take it yet – he’s not really a power armor guy, but at least now I know it’s there if he needs it. He also killed some nearby wild mongrels eating a radstag, then carefully avoided a house that happened to have a bear in it before stumbling across a mini-army outpost with a single friendly eyebot outside. Had some good loot in it, along with the skeleton of a soldier and his broken Mr. Gutsy – Victor again cracked the terminal lock, took what was good, then made camp outside as the fatigue was setting in.

Next morning, woke up INTO an affinity conversation with Preston, where he praised Victor as one of the good guys and thanked him again for being such a good person. Victor told him he was just following Preston’s example, which is as close to flirting as he can get without actually using the “Flirt” option (my poor low-Charisma boy). They packed up camp and continued on to Sunshine Tidings, finding Walden Pond and a cherry orchard – with a Super Mutant in it. Fortunately they were able to kill him (though not without Victor needing a stimpack after getting molotoved) – but then, after picking some cherries, they found themselves near a pond and having to fight a bunch of soft-shell mirelurks and their hatchlings. Victor had to chase the last one practically to Sunshine itself! From there it was into the settlement, going around and clearing out the enemies – a few ghouls and radroaches, mostly. Including one Legendary Radroach with an Irradiated Pipe Pistol! Might be worth looking into. . .at any rate, the place was cleared out by 10 AM in-game time, and Victor had hit Level 15! I promptly took Armorer 2 for more armor mods AND the ability to upgrade my backpack’s carry weight capacity even more. Now time to set this place up, clear out the junk, and then make for Diamond City!

4. Work on tumblr drafts: Check, but I didn’t get quite as far as I was hoping, thanks to the aforementioned waking-up brain fog and then all the other stuff I was doing. I did get all my pictures for the next Smiler Always Chill Save update sorted (there’s forty! This is gonna be my biggest update to date), I got my queue for Valice Multiverse set (two ask replies, no big), and I put somebody’s post thanking the “Alice/Guy From Corpse Bride shippers” for keeping Alice/Bumby from being the most-written-about romantic relationship in the fandom on AO3 in my drafts (I’m almost entirely personally responsible for outwriting them XD). And I’m actually gonna be spending a good portion of the night listening to a playlist someone made for Valice that I found in the A:MR tag – I mean, THAT’S gotta go up next Song Saturday, now doesn’t it?

5. Get in a workout: Nope – I left my gaming a bit too late, and between downloading and playing Desk Job and getting into my latest session of Fallout 4 – yeah, it was too close to dinner to head downstairs. *shrug* Seems to be the way with cleaning weekends as of late! I’ll pick it back up tomorrow.

*shrug* Four out of five ain't bad! Now I'm gonna clear out some tumblr tags and continue listening to that Valice playlist. But first, Monday off to-dos:

1. Keep editing Chapter 6 of “Londerland Bloodlines: Santa Monica’s Vale Of Tears”

2. Keep up with YouTube Subs

3. Play Sims 4 and do some more save renovation/building, and maybe some Smiler playtime

4. Work on tumblr drafts (specifically the Smiler Always update for Wednesday)

5. Get in a workout

I think I can handle all that. :) Especially if I'm a little more awake tomorrow morning. . .we'll see. For now, night all!
