crossover_chick: Doc snoozing on his couch (BTTF: exhausted)

Rather busy for such a short work week:

Work – Another busy day – bunch of credit card calls, both being received and being made (I had seven returns to follow up on, and I got four sorted, so that’s something). Also getting some checks on from the exceptions, updating some other pledge stuff – basically just trying to keep on top of the pile. Uh, universe, I don’t need the extra incentive to be thankful for a long weekend, I promise! Well, just one more day to get through. . .

Beanbags – Rained a lot this morning, but it actually turned out quite nice this afternoon (we hit the low 70s!), so out we went into the yard once I got home. Had a really bad first throw in the first game – and then came back from that to win, so I was happy with that. XD End scores were W-W-2 me, 2-3-W Dad, 3-2-3 Mom. Feel a little bad for Mom, but at the same time, rather proud of my two wins – I was throwing really well after that initial 0! :)

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another half-hour of the Oxventure Stream “The Corn Ultimatum!” After summarizing the issue to the tabaxi adventurer, now known to be “Rust-On-The-Harbor” (“Rust” for short), and learning from him that the bandit camp was a little ways out of town and surrounded by a wooden spike fence, the gang started planning their attack. Well, after an interlude where Corazon, his cool once more threatened, challenged Rust to the “five finger fillet” knife-stabbing game. Rust did amazing, Corazon stabbed himself in the back of the hand. XD Rust, who had been informed by Dob that “Corazon just wants to look cool, he’ll mellow out eventually” after Corazon made some wild claims about becoming king of the Tabaxi at one point in the past, politely pretended to believe Corazon’s claim that he was playing by different rules and conceded. And then Egbert insisted on having a try, with Dob putting his hand over his for, uh, reasons – he rolled poorly too, and Dob got stabbed. Whoops. XD

Anyway, plans! Many of various quality were thrown around – Rust suggested splitting the party, having some people pretending to be bandits to get into the camp while the others were off “doing something else;” Dob REALLY wanted to tunnel into the camp; Corazon was all for building a giant ear of corn and doing a Trojan horse thing (with Dob later suggesting that maybe they make it a safe to make it more intriguing to the bandits); Prudence was like “can we just BURN THE PLACE TO THE GROUND.” After numerous stops and starts, it was agreed that they should at least go LOOK at the place first, and then decide what ridiculous plan to go with. Dob picked up a shovel from one of the many shovel shops in town, while Prudence got as many firelighters and other burnables as she could get her paws on, and they set off through the corn. Rust caught six birds along the way, impressing Merilwen (who reminded Dob when he asked if she was gonna get mad, “I DO hunt, you know, it’s the WASTE that gets me”) – and then Corazon, desperate to show him up, got a lucky roll and caught ten. XD Rust, however, was just happy for him – and then asked if he could have the tail feathers, briefly disappearing into the corn on a secret project. The others made their way to the camp and surveyed it – it proved to be a crude but effective fortress, with both the spike fence and an inner wall for archers, beyond which were huts. Not the easiest place to get into, but probably not the hardest either.

And then Rust showed back up – with a pirate hat for Corazon. That he’d attached the feathers to in a way that made it look like it had wings.

Yeah, Corazon actually teared up a little at the gift, and apologized for being so competitive. Not that Rust minded, he liked a bit of competition. Everyone immediately was like “we ride or die for Rust.” XD That being said, though, Dob had a bit of a plan – he wanted to catapult himself and Rust somehow over the wall once night fell and do a stealth mission to kidnap or otherwise incapacitate McClusky. Prudence was like “but I want to burn things,” and Dob pointed out that she could set a fire as a distraction outside, and to make it harder to see. Corazon put in that he could stealth around the ramparts and take out archers, and Merilwen said she’d happily join Dob and Rust as a cat, so they could have a cat-cat-catapult. XD Plan made, they just needed something to make a catapult, so Dob went looking for some nice saplings! And he found one! So he started trying to dig it up –

Cue a wooden hand picking him up and asking what he was doing.

There be treants (aka *cough*Ents*cough*) in these woods! Or, at least one, named Gary. Dob immediately tried to bullshit a story about planting flowers under him – Gary didn’t quite buy it, but when Dob explained they were here to take care of the bandit camp, he allowed that some “acquaintances” had been cut down to make the spike fence and whatnot, and he was willing to help them with their quest. IF they actually planted some flowers around afterward. Dob said that was fine, and got the others over so he could introduce them (Merilwen just gave Gary a big hug, while Rust – well, they had to stop him sharpening his claws on him XD). So now it looks like Dob, Rust, and Merilcat will be thrown over by Gary, assuming all goes well! We’ll see what chaos erupts later. XD

2. Continue writing “Learn To Love Again”: Check – after a bit more banter, Victor and Alice have said their goodbyes for the afternoon – and Alice has had a very vivid, very beautiful Wonderland moment in response to Victor’s smile. Along with thinking that it’s his Wonderland too now, which – yeah, she’s having a “wait, what?” moment now. XD I wouldn’t be surprised if I finish this up tomorrow – it’s meant to be a short epilogue-style “yeah, she’s in love” chapter, so being only about three pages would fit. We’ll see!

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – two-in, two-out today, plus a couple of bonuses –

A) Started with a small treat from OXtra – “This is what a wedding looks like in Dark Souls!” AKA, two minutes of highlights from Ellen playing Dark Souls 3 with Luke in their “Dark Souls Academy” series, “marrying” Anri of Astora as part of one of the questlines. The groom looks very dead, and the ceremony involves stabbing the “Sword of Avowal” into his skull. XD Ellen, who’d gotten her character all dressed up for the occasion, was equal parts shocked and amused, while Luke trolled around with gestures. XD Good stuff.

B) Then it was onto the Subs themselves for Call Me Kevin and “Simpsons Hit And Run is NOT like how you remember!” Yes, he was playing The Simpsons: Hit and Run today, going through a selection of the missions and kicking every NPC he could possibly kick. And some that you’re not supposed to be able to kick, but Kevin may have cheated just a little to get the ability to kick indoors. XD The game seems to be a mixture of “collect all these things within the time limit,” “race this person,” and “ram this person until their car blows up” mini-games. We started with Homer kicking the shit out of Marge and Apu while out on errands to pick up stuff (with the help of his trusty driver, No Legs NPC), then moved onto some of Bart ramming cell-phone cars to death (. . .I approve), then did Lisa saving some fish for the old sailor guy (and kicking another sailor briefly into space because of glitches), Apu gathering trash for Snake the mugger, Marge chasing Cletus and driving around the nuclear power plant, Bart learning just what a scumbag Krusty really is, and finally Homer and Grampa taking on the aliens via the power of nuclear waste. Uh, yeah, apparently the plot involves aliens? I presume Kang and Kodos? I don’t know, I’m just here to watch Kevin stress out over hard levels, forget about the double jump ability, and cackle as he runs over people. XD

C) And finally we had GrayStillPlays and “When you hit the ground at light speed” – aka, playing the game Try To Fly! Which is a game where you fling a character off a variety of high places toward a target, getting coins for both airtime and smashing into objects, which you can then use to upgrade your character’s power, flight, and coin bonus. As you might imagine, Gray was all about maxing out as many things as possible to smash up his characters in as many ways as possible. You had levels like a police officer just flinging himself off a building; a guy in a wingsuit making his way down a mountain and breaking every picnic table; and a dude in a helmet crunching his ways down the steps of a plaza mid-festival and taking out every hot dog cart. And then there was Jessica – she of the red dress and heels, whom Gray flung across the heart of a lava-filled volcano, up a ski slope to smash into the gondolas, off an asteroid and through the rings of a space station, and finally through a hot-air-balloon-filled sky into the back of a MOVING PLANE. It took a lot of time and a lot of coins spent to remove the hell we call physics, but Gray did eventually succeed at it all. :D Honestly, this one looks genuinely fun – who doesn’t love flinging a character down a long fall to their doom? XD

D) And then, just because I was curious, watched a clip of the very first person to ride The Smiler – a local weather reporter! Who was left rather trembly by the whole experience, poor lady. XD To be fair, seeing it from the perspective of actually looking back at the rider kinda hammers home just how intense the ride can be – I mean, there’s 14 inversions, but you don’t really get that until you see it on her face. Intense stuff! But fun. :)

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – got Wednesday’s Chill Save update, Thursday’s musings on my old “Holistic Assassin Alice” AU and the ideas for an Alton-Towers-based sequel, and Friday’s reblog of how ships who are friends are better all in the queue for Victor Luvs Alice, and two ask replies sorted over on Valice Multiverse.

Well, at least I'm being productive. And now there's only one more workday to go. . .we'll see how I manage! Night all!
