Much Less Thunderstormy Than Advertised
Jul. 2nd, 2022 11:36 pmLike -- most of the day was actually like YESTERDAY, hot and humid. Apparently it stormed really early this morning, and it clouded up a couple of times, but it only rained around 8:30 PM, and I have yet to hear a single rumble of thunder. O.o I mean, I'm GLAD it worked out like that, meant I wasn't trapped on my iPad playing games and waiting to get back on my computer, but. . .I'm just hoping it DOES actually cool down and dry out tomorrow like they said now, because it was ICKY humid today. Kinda glad I didn't have to work out or play beanbags.
I did, however, have some other things to do, and I accomplished them almost 100% --
1. Edit some more on my Hypnokinky Valicer Stuff: Check! Did this after supper – got another page in my scene of my Modern AU!Smiler hypnotizing Victor for the first time in person with Alice present to keep an eye on things and finally see some hypnosis used for something nice instead of Bumby’s bullshit. It's a very enjoyable snippet, with Victor going nice and deep into trance while Alice and Smiler are implied to be having some interesting revelations about themselves and their relationship to Victor in the background. XD Look, this is what I like when I’m writing just for me, okay? :p
2. Catch up on YouTube Subs and, if possible, clear some stuff from the Watch Later: Ah, so close! I caught up on both the videos in the Subs I missed yesterday, plus three from the WL, but I couldn’t get to the video Gray posted today of GTA V. I’ll have to get to that one tomorrow! But at least I got five-sixths’ check?
A) Started post-Simming with James Turner and part 5 of “Rage To Riches!” Angus and Nina continue to have very weird lives, but they have managed to move up enough in the world to have a house! Or, at least, a room – James was able to build a usable copy of the lower level of one of the debug buildings he used to make their lot look like it had something on it, complete with the right wall paint and door (and as close as he could get to the windows). So far all that’s in it is a shower and some beds, but it’s SOMETHING. Other highlights from the episode include:
I. Angus doing his best to make friends with the other members of the Moonwood Collective (so far, he’s managed to befriend Lily), and both him and Nina getting scolded for not participating in their pack enough (which means not giving enough goodies to their pack hangouts, apparently – Angus donated some of the meat he hunted, while Nina handed over a gem she found exploring the underground)
II. Angus doing his best to adopt poor Cupcake, that poodle wandering the world who is always sick – Angus tried just taking them to the vet and giving them a wellness treat, but when he invited the pup over again, Cupcake was just vomiting CONSTANTLY, so. . . No option to actually add the dog to the household, though, and there seems to be some disagreement in the comments about whether or not Cupcake’s even actually a stray (apparently the game will just mark random owned pets as “strays” to populate worlds with pets sometimes). I don’t think anyone will mind if Cupcake is dognapped, though. :p
III. Angus doing his best to win over his “Grampire” Brodie to good vampire/werewolf relations – THEY are still friends, personally, which is nice, but Brodie still rejects any attempt for Angus to ask for werewolf sympathy. This is going to be a hard sell indeed. . .but what I’ve read online indicates vampires CAN become werewolf allies, so – we’ll see if Angus succeeds if he just keeps at it!
IV. Angus and Nina both going on rampages thanks to built-up Fury – fortunately, now that they have a room of their own, they can just lock themselves in! Unfortunately, that means they can only break their OWN stuff and befoul the room with their own piss. At least “marking territory” helps Nina’s aspiration? Even if it’s in her own room?
V. Nina starting a very complicated relationship with Greg – she went to provoke him for aspiration purposes; they brawled; then she attempted to communicate and apologize, and for a while they actually managed to have a decent chat (revealing that GREG HIMSELF put up the signs warning about him) – and then Greg initiated another brawl, and now they despise each other again. I hope you feel proud of beating up a teenager, Greg! (Yes, Nina is still a teenager! She’s on the verge of aging up as of the end of this episode, though.)
VI. Then again, this episode also featured Nina being the nastiest werewolf teenager who ever lived – the moment she could, she picked up the Cursed Bite ability, then went back to Henford-on-Bagley to start spreading the curse and Ferociously Intimidating Sims for cash! She bit BOTH Agnes and Agatha Crumplebottom, and intimidated money out of the random Sims just trying to have a nice day in the Finchwick town center. I mean, it was lucrative – she got close to $1,000 out of all the dropped wallets – but she’s not only unlocked the dormant power that makes it so she has FUN scaring Sims, she also developed an Atrocious Reputation. Damn. On the plus side, she was also able to scare some money out of the repo person when they came by to repossess something because they hadn’t been paying their bills, and they ended up leaving without actually repossessing anything.
So yeah, bit of a wild ride for them, no pun intended. XD But it’s a lot of fun, and I’m quite enjoying it. Even if it really, REALLY makes me want to see similar stuff for other occults (the werewolf books have such fun pop-ups!).
B) Then it was time to head over to the Watch Later and clear out some of the older Plumbella videos:
I. “Styling The Sims 4: Werewolves clothing that I hate” – Well, “hate” is a strong word in this case, as Plumbella really likes most of the Werewolves CAS. But she did find a few things that she didn’t really like (particular swatches of one of the tops and two of the full-body outfits, one skirt, and a pair of jeans she genuinely thought were trash) and then turned them into styled looks that she could work with! Such as one of the punker tops becoming the basis of an entire punk outfit, the skirt getting paired with a nice top from Eco Lifestyle, and the pink version of the jeans actually working well with a top from the Modern Menswear kit of all things. Fun little video that makes me want to give my Sims more makeovers. XD
II. “My werewolf is the star of an enemies to lovers romance” – another episode of Plumbella’s pre-review Werewolves LP! Lupisn’t was having a bit of a time of it, as you do, while Plumbella tried to figure out how certain bits of the pack worked. They did, however, manage to spread the cursed bite to the Pancakes and a couple other random Sims; visit Forgotten Hollow and find themselves on the wrong end of a Supernatural Smackdown with Lilith Vatore (after trying to get closer to Caleb and failing BADLY – yeah, it looks like they’re hard-coded to hate each other on-sight under normal circumstances. On the plus side, Smiler’s excellent relationship-building skills makes me think that they and Alice should still be besties after her own transformation); join the Wildfangs pack (once Plumbella figured out how – she thought becoming a friend of the pack was enough until she finally located the trials); get the “Mark Territory” ability and start weeing everywhere to assert “werewolf world domination;” adopt a stray husky named Maya that they found wandering around (Plumbella squeed mightily over that one); and go out to Singles Night at a bar with Rory, where they took a chance at flirting – and found she was their Fated Mate! Well that’s something! Plumbella promptly had them invite her over to the house and then woohoo in a bush. XD So all that remains now in their aspiration is to take the alpha position of the Wildfangs from Rory. . .I feel like this may have an effect on their relationship, even as Fated Mates. :p
III. “Creating my own personal werewolf den because the other werewolves are bullies” – time to see Plumbella’s build video for Remus Lupisn’t’s house! She went with a theme of “this werewolf saw an abandoned old farm building in a field and turned it into a house by chucking a shipping container atop it,” and it worked out really well! Especially when she unlocked the debug items and started using those liberally (including a little pier that inspired her to add a small pond to the side). She also went off on a tangent about her upcoming trip to Flamingoland, her history with roller coasters and other thrill rides (apparently she smashed up a tooth on one, giving herself a VERY crooked overbite for a while), and her future streaming plans (basically she doesn’t think she can do a set schedule anymore – it’s gotta be more sporadic so she can work with the autism). All in all, a good video, and a good build!
C) Then it was back over to the Subs after some early birthday cake (my Dad’s birthday is on the 5th, but Mom made the cake today) to watch that hour-long Call Me Kevin video from yesterday: “PS1 Harry Potter is an amazing fever dream!” Basically Kevin replayed the entire PS1 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone game for this video, which is why it was so long. And it is a WEIRD game, let me tell you. I mean, right from the start, you have to deal with the PS1-era graphics, which is heavily-pixelated photos of the actor’s faces plastered onto blocky blobs posing as human beings, with the faces basically half-melting every time the characters shift a centimeter to the left. And then you have the actual gameplay, which is mostly weird mini-games involving 3-D platforming, everyone’s favorite kind! Harry has a very solid jump and grab, admittedly, but he’s VERY hard to control in certain sections, ESPECIALLY if there’s any sort of slip hazard. And the mini-games are stuff like “race to class across these weird floating tables!” “Cast this spell by playing Simon Says with the PS1 buttons!” “Rescue this person’s cat by smashing crates in the dungeon!” “Find a sloth brain for Professor Snape in the gardens before Potions!” “Fly through the rings a la Superman 64 for the flying teacher!” “Platform across LAVA THAT IS ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS FOR SOME REASON to get fire seeds for Hagrid!” Most of it is just weird-ass fetch quests that have very little to do with the plot at all! And don’t even get Kevin started on the quests you have to do in Diagon Alley when Hagrid asks you to help him get the ingredients for a potion for Norbert. . .especially at the incredibly slippery bank. . . Most of the actual story is told in storybook cutscenes played in-between the weird mini-games that make no sense, with things only picking up at the very end with the race to find the Stone. And even then, Ron and Hermione are completely useless blobs, as Kevin was VERY quick to point out. Yes, okay, it’s an older game, and the player is supposed to do most of the work in these instances, but still. XD Add in Kevin using green screen magic and a blanket to pop in to offer commentary on the whole experience from time to time, and you had an EXTREMELY weird (but, I think for a lot of people, extremely nostalgic) video.
3. Play Sims 4 after picking up Werewolves and send Smiler to Moonwood Mill: Check! I updated my game, went through my mods and updated anything that needed updating, then used my Amazon gift card (a gift from my boss for Christmas last year) to pick up the code for the Werewolves pack and install that all after lunch! I started it up once to make sure everything looked kosher, then popped my mods back into the game folder and went ahead and loaded up Smiler’s house! Their morning was pretty quiet – doing homework, weeding and harvesting their garden, taking a shower (and then needing to repair the shower) – though the new lunar cycle allowed them to enjoy automatic Vampire Energy regen during the new moon before the sun came up. THAT was nice. :) Once the day started properly, they attended their only class of the day, then came home and did a bit more homework before heading off to explore the new world of Moonwood Mill!
It was – snowing rather a lot! Including inside James’s beloved library build. XD James, I know you were going for an aesthetic, but – roofs. They’re used for a reason. XD Smiler took a moment to make a snow angel, then headed inside to greet the locals. Specifically, Coty Davidson, the local librarian – and werewolf. I believe I mentioned that one of my aims upon getting this pack was to see how werewolves reacted to a vampire who has every advantage possible when it comes to making friends? Smiler, under normal circumstances, can instantly make good friends with someone by giving them a Cheerful Introduction. What happened when they tried that with a werewolf?
Insta-friends. Not good friends, granted, but still friends! Not even werewolves are immune to “Incredibly Friendly” as a trait, maxed Charisma, and a Pristine reputation, it seems. And it really didn’t take Smiler long to work Coty up to becoming a good friend once they’d chatted for a bit. XD Smiler even got Coty to agree to donate some plasma to the cause – animations were a bit glitchy, but my “change the wrist-feed animation out for the regular neck-feed one” mod still seems to be working, yay. :p Interestingly, though, Smiler got an angry moodlet from feeding on Coty, saying that drinking his plasma was like drinking “dogwater” – it still fulfilled their thirst need, and it couldn’t break through Smiler’s multiple happy/playful moodlets, but that is something to note. (Maybe this is something mooncasters did deliberately to stop vampires feeding on them as they became proper werewolves?)
Anyway, with that sorted, Smiler gave the library visitors a burst of focus, then flew over to the Wildfang hangout to test their friend-making skills on Rory, leader of the Wildfangs. Once again, no problem, even with Rory in their werewolf form – they happily hung out for a while, Rory telling them about her pack and the town. She was unwilling to build snow pals, though, so Smiler spent their final few hours in Moonwood Mill instead exploring the underground tunnels via the sewer entrance! They navigated a bunch of debris and found some baconite; attempted to lift the wheel out of the junk to grab a lockbox in the ruins of the old mill, but nearly caused a junk avalanche instead; tried to howl back to a lonely-sounding werewolf, only to be met with silence; and finally found their way out of the tunnels via the bunker! Which – seems to have accidentally unlocked the tunnel to the portal-potties as well. *raises eyebrow* Smiler was a more diligent explorer than I thought (she says, well aware the game glitched out). From there they flew back to the entrance of town to practice their singing for a bit before heading off to work –
And once they got home, it was up to the mirror to “Change Sim” because they have been getting a lot of pop-ups using “he/him” pronouns lately, and I wanted to make sure their gender identity was still saved in the game. Apparently so, so I guess updating all the text across all packs is still very much a work in progress. *grumbles* I did take a look at the tattoos on offer, though, as I’m thinking of giving Smiler one – haven’t fully decided which, yet, but we’ll see. I did give them a new dark form outfit using some of the new clothing, and updated one of their party outfits to use one of the new tops, though! So that’s fun. :) Next time – Winterfest! The only Christmas in July I shall tolerate. XD
4. Work on tumblr drafts: Check! Did the morning catch-up on Victor Luvs Alice, then edited a post I drafted about how you could totally fit Alton’s “secret weapon” coasters into The Nightmare Before Christmas if you wanted to do an AU, and drafted up this week’s Chill Save update with Smiler’s final day of their second university semester! So that’s all set, at least – though I’m thinking I’m going to be adding a second post to that day talking about the Werewolves stuff I’d like to be added to the previous occults (namely, the fun book pop-ups and the ability to ask other Sims to be “allies” of the occult type). We’ll see how that goes tomorrow!
Additionally:
-->Took a moment before supper to also get my Dad’s e-card for his upcoming birthday sorted, yay! So I don’t have to worry about that, at least.
So a productive day -- I just wish I'd been able to fit in GrayStillPlays! Ah well. . .at least I'm down to ONE video in the Subs to catch up on. :p And I'm busy doing the social thing and keeping an eye on the Valice Multiverse for activity, so let me get my to-do list sorted for tomorrow:
1. Keep up on the FO4 Playthrough Progression
2. Catch up on YouTube Subs, see about getting OXBoxtra lists out of Watch Later, and watch Jon's latest FO4 Legendary Roulette video
3. Play Fallout 4 and finish clearing out Thicket Excavations
