Slightly Frustrating Friday
Jul. 8th, 2022 11:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Mostly because of growing humidity and work stuff, which is neatly summed up in this slightly-expanded to-do list:
Work – Eh – not a lot going on, but I was able to keep myself occupied by cleaning up my desk and shredding a whole bunch of old papers and stuff I didn’t need anymore. The annoyance was toward the end of the day – first getting interrupted by an IT phone call JUST as I was getting ready to eat lunch, then getting a computer upgrade that – turned out to not go as smoothly as either I or the IT guy had hoped (the computer wasn’t correctly connecting to something). Fortunately I did NOT need to stick around to see how it panned out, so I wasn’t late leaving work, but it wasn’t exactly fun. *grumbles* And of course I had to deal with a bunch of idiot speed demons on the way to and from work. . .at least now it’s the weekend!
Beanbags – Another nice, if kinda muggy day, so it was back out to the backyard to do beanbags – and thanks to me having a rough start while Mom had a great one, and Dad generally have a good day but choking with a point to go in the middle round, allowing me to slip past, we got ALMOST exactly the same scores as yesterday – I just managed to pull ahead of Mom in the final game this time around. So final scores THIS time were me 3-2-W-2-2; Dad 2-W-2-W-W; Mom W-3-3-3-3. Slightly better for me, slightly worse for Mom, but at least everybody won one!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another half-hour on the bike today, with a trio of Sims videos –
I. Petey Plays It discusses and ranks all the werewolf powers, both regular and dormant! He was particularly fond of stuff like the “devour all the objects” power (I think we all love that one), the unlocked ability to transform whenever you like, and the “Lunar Howl” that maxes out your fury in exchange for remixing your temperaments, but was less fond of stuff like hunting for your own meat (I think because it’s just a rabbit hole interaction) and tapping your primal instincts for a short confidence boost. I personally think hunting is a fun little addition, but it might have been better if you’d gotten a pop-up or two to determine how much meat you brought back, or if anything interesting happened during the hunt (maybe Jungle Adventures “traveling to the temple” style?). No matter what, though, it was a good primer on powers, and gives me ideas for what I want to focus on for my werewolf!Alice in the Chill Save.
II. Petey Plays It discusses customization options you might not know about in The Sims 4! Though I actually did know about all of them. :p From having five outfits per outfit category, to being able to chose a custom phone case, to getting extra adjustment points on roofs. I mean, sure, I’ve only used the first two out of the three I’ve listed, but that’s because roofs are my enemy in Sims 4 and I don’t need to make life harder for myself. XD
III. Pixelade discusses a Guru’s response to a tweet about the Sims fanbase wanting bands or something like Sims 3 Showtime, with the eager hope that the Guru having worked on Showtime and saying that they’re well-aware that people want bands is a good sign. Personally, I’m not about to get that excited, but it would be nice if they did a pack. Or, at the very least, added more instruments to the game – I shouldn’t have to rely on mods if I want to give someone a drum kit!
2. Continue writing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – Alice successfully raided the Records Room, grabbing a copy of the ship’s manifest – but then Officer Marsh came up the hall just outside the room, and there was a pretty tense moment where she had to get past him while invisible, all the while knowing she’d have to turn visible again to open the door at the other end of the hall. . .fortunately he went through the door she came through because he thought another officer had left it open, and she was able to sneak past. Next time, we’ll be wrapping up with her getting off the boat – now, do I make it so the actual reporter has shown up by the time she leaves, or. . . XD
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check plus – I’m back to completely caught up with the Subs, AND on my Outside XBox! So that’s nice, at least –
A) Started with those OXBox lists from my Watch Later I had to miss yesterday, plus a surprise extra one from today –
I. “7 Suspiciously Easy Boss Fights That Weren’t What They Seemed” – a collection of boss fights that seemed just too easy. . .and that’s because you didn’t know you were on phase one. Enjoy a surprisingly easy beatdown of shard-bearer boss Rennala in Elden Ring? SURPRISE, there’s a second phase where you fight a past version of her at her prime! Take advantage of the classic Browser bridge trap in New Super Mario Bros Wii? SURPRISE, what you thought was Princess Peach was his wizard compatriot, who promptly grows him to GIANT SIZE, forcing you to flee! Think that facing off against the big bad’s mech, Anubis, in Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner was just too easy? SURPRISE, that’s because it’s a fake and you’ve been beating up a mech with your LOVE INTEREST inside of it! Granted, your distraction there is forgivable, because all of these mechs have damn near LITERAL cockpits. (Seriously, go watch the video, it’s downright WEIRD.) Beware the easy boss, is what I’m getting at! Unless it’s Mysterio from the original Spider-Man 2. Then you’re fine.
II. “7 Funniest Minigames Where Hurting Yourself Was the Point” – exactly what it says on the tin, except the “mini” in the title is a bit misleading – they featured two FULL games where it was the point, notably Jackass: The Video Game (which is a whole bunch of minigames about ridiculous injury inflicted upon your person via a variety of stunts) and Pain (which is one simple downloadable game about ridiculous injury inflicted upon your person via a single catapult and all the hazards of a city). But there were also proper minigames, like committing insurance fraud in the Saints Row series (throwing yourself in front of cars and trying to bounce in a variety of medically-damaging ways) and – my personal favorite – the “Hall of Meat” from horrifically smashing yourself up in the Skate skateboarding series. I believe I’ve mentioned a certain GrayStillPlays taking on that one? XD Bad injury sometimes DOES equal good times!
III. “Resident Evil 4 Remake: 7 Weirdest Things You Forgot About the Original” – the surprise one from today, Andy taking us through some weird moments from the original RE4 because, well, REmake is coming! Now that’s exciting. :D Though we will have to see if stuff like getting a surprise insta-kill from the lake monster if you aggro it too early, or getting shot by Louis if you hit him with enough friendly (or unfriendly) fire, or the fun Mobster/Medieval Knight unlockable costumes make it into this new version of the game. Though Andy and I both agree that the creepy stuff that happens around Ashley (such as characters commenting on her breasts, or players trying to look up her skirt) needs to go. REALLY does not help that she in no way looks twenty! I’d say sixteen personally. . .we’ll see what happens!
B) Then it was onto the Subs for yesterday’s Call Me Kevin – “I bet $1000 I could beat the NEW Cuphead DLC in one sitting!” Yes, there is a new Cuphead DLC, apparently, and Kevin decided he would try and beat it in one sitting, or lose $1,000 smackers!
. . .As you might imagine, he lost the $1,000, because HOLY HELL IS THIS GAME HARD. I mean, there is shit FLYING across the screen every ten seconds – I could barely keep up! O.O There’s flies and deadly music and a giant anteater tongue in the den of the bootlegging spiders and their snail boss; there’s gnomes, geese, puppets throwing balls, and what I think is a chunk of someone’s flesh throwing chicken legs at you in the home of the mountain man; and there’s dogs flying planes and hitting you with lasers, yarn balls (vomited out of a cat) and dog bowls WHILE THE SCREEN ROTATES in the dogfighting skies! Kevin managed to beat them all in the end, but it took a LOT of tries – he put up some text at the end of the video admitting his actual playtime was three and a half hours. The bootleggers were his personal least fave, because a) he started with them and found them just super hard and b) this particular stage has a “fake knockout” when you defeat the anteater, because you also have to take out the snail boss and he WILL start shooting at you as you start celebrating. In the end, having taken out three bosses and a mini-game about parry chess pawns, Kevin surrendered the $1,000.
And if you’re wondering why it’s in USD when he’s an Irishman living in Spain, that’s because he donated the money to St. Jude’s. :) Torturing himself for a good cause – that’s why we love our Kevin. :)
C) From there it was onto Fun With Shorts, for “Alone at Home,” Part 2! The second half of the 70s “teaching kids what to do when home alone,” including “don’t panic if the power goes out” and “don’t let strangers into the house while you’re home alone.” Good information, but Josh also had some good riffs. Mostly centered around the Home Alone franchise, of course. XD To be fair, most kids aren’t gonna have to deal with bandits, wet or otherwise. . .
D) And finally, we had GrayStillPlays and another mobile game – Feet Clinic! Or as YouTube labeled it, Foot Clinic – ASMR Feet Care. Uuuuuuh. . . Yeah, this game puts you up close and personal with feet that have blisters with literal rock underneath them, giant blood pustules that you have to use LEECHES on, LEGOs, thumbtacks, and broken glass stuck in them, and occasionally INCREDIBLY broken toes. You could also paint the toenails and put temporary tattoos of deer and butterflies on them. It was honestly kind of gross, even with the goofy Gray commentary! Especially when you remember there are DEFINITELY people playing this game for, uh, “other reasons. . .”
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – just a single ask reply over on Valice Multiverse to slap in the queue, yay~
Additionally:
-->Decided to do some chill gaming – well, chill for me, anyway, not the unfortunate NPCs in the game I chose. XD Yup, it was back to Untitled Goose Game today for a bit – popped into my second save slot and decided to try and get some of the “quickly” to-dos sorted (you know, that second-to-last list of additional objectives you get where you have to do the original to-dos for each area before the church bells ring – aka, in about six minutes), since I hadn’t on that save yet. Managed after a few tries to get the Garden to-dos done (pro tip if you’re trying this – get the gardener to hammer his thumb, then steal the rake – he can’t break his falling-over animation to stop you, and it’s the easiest way to get it in the lake; also, set up as much of the picnic as early as possible, then close the session by grabbing the radio, since that’ll be loud and get his attention – it only has to reach the blanket, it doesn’t have to stay there!), but despite a good early showing, wasn’t able to get through the High Street to-dos before the church bells rang. Perhaps another day when I’m looking for a short gaming session!
So yeah, work wasn't exactly great (I mean, I got rid of a lot of crap, but the computer thing annoyed me, as well as worrying that I wasn't going to get out on time), but I can't complain about the rest of the day! And I do have my to-dos already covered for tomorrow:
1. Clean my room
2. Keep up on YouTube Subs and watch at least one AT4W episode
3. Play Sims 4 and work through Smiler’s Winter Thursday
4. Continue writing "As Long As You Love Me"
Yeah, I'm now five episodes behind on AT4W -- the problem is one of those episodes is a movie review, Man of Steel, meaning it's an hour and a half. All the other ones are shorter -- the one right after it is eleven minutes -- but I gotta watch 'em in order, and MoS is the second one, so. . .we'll see if I can get to it tomorrow! In the meantime, I've got social stuff to do -- night all!
Work – Eh – not a lot going on, but I was able to keep myself occupied by cleaning up my desk and shredding a whole bunch of old papers and stuff I didn’t need anymore.
