Not like I didn't have things to annoy me today, but at least how my afternoon was structured wasn't one of them -- managed to catch up on everything I was forced to skip yesterday, hooray! And now I just have one half-day of work left keeping me from doing everything I want to do. . .until then, though, to-do list!

Work – Another quiet day for the most part – more obituaries and duplicates for me – though there were some incredibly annoying moments in the afternoon, revolving around the paper towels in the bathroom dispenser getting jammed (meaning you could barely get any to dry your hands), and YET MORE BULLSHIT INVOLVING THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY. Fortunately that was resolved before we left, but UGH. Not happy. At least tomorrow’s only a half-day.

Beanbags – Nope, for The Humidity Is Back and it was too sticky and uncomfortable. (Plus, I suspect my parents were just too tired after wrenching up the rest of the old linoleum on the kitchen floor.) Perhaps tomorrow, but we will have to see!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and back to watching shorter one-shot videos:

A) “WERE EA’S PROMISES ALL LIES?” – Pixelade is NOT HAPPY about the latest patch, and who can blame them, it’s kind of a shitshow. The patch is not only causing Sims to randomly age up if you play with any lifespan other than “normal” and making some Sims desire their relatives carnally, it’s also causing some pretty horrific visual glitches and distortion of Sims for some people! Also, curved walls will just pop out of existence sometimes, the windows tend to clip (I assume the ones that are supposed to be curved-wall-safe), and the new wants/fears feature? Only covers stuff from the base game and the newest pack, with SimGuruGeorge saying they could update it to cover all the past packs in the future. *facepalm* Pixelade was very annoyed that EA keeps rushing out half-baked stuff, especially things that are supposed to IMPROVE Sims for everyone, and it’s just. . . I’m suddenly really wishing I’d just taken my game offline so I could just play with it the way it’s always been. As it stands, I’ll probably not being playing Sims at all until we get the fixes we need – good thing I just bought a new game, huh?

B) “Blades in the Dark: The best heist RPG ever. . .” – Dave Thaumavore reviews the TTRPG I have become very intrigued by lately in eleven minutes! He went over all the basic mechanics, the layout of the book itself, the playbook archetypes for PCs and their crews. . .quite informative for a short review! He also laid out all his pros and cons – example con being the lack of illustrations (he wants to SEE more of how Duskwall looks, darn it), example pro being the interesting mechanics (simple dice rolling to handle complex actions!). Good stuff, and just makes me want to look into the book more, as apparently there’s all sorts of great flavor text in there. . .

C) “5 Things I Love About Blades in the Dark” – Polyhedron gives me more reasons to buy this book by pointing out things they love about it – how easy it is to play once you’ve gotten your head around the rules; how fun it is to be able to jump into the action; and how cool the setting is. :) I don’t generally game, but I do like RPG books for their worldbuilding, and it sounds like this one has a lot of that, sooo. . .I DO have time to fill now that Sims 4 is gonna be off the table for a bit. . .

D) And just to fill up the last minute or so, the trailer for the next episode of the current season of What We Do In The Shadows, where it seems child Colin Robinson has chosen violence. XD I’m sure my tumblr friends who are hooked on the series will enjoy!

2. Continue writing “As Long As You Love Me”: Check – the Blackwing motorcycle gang made the unwise decision to threaten Alice with being burned to death, and the even unwiser decision to throw a baseball at Victor. . .setting off a chain reaction that just killed one of their members right away, and allowed Alice to get a hand free and kill the rest. And this is why you don’t fuck with the holistic assassin, people! Should wrap this chapter up with Victor recovering from the shock and realizing that he really DOES have a purpose in being with her on Saturday. :)

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – even with me being surprised by an unexpected upload tonight! Though I really SHOULD have expected it, as it was the time of the month for this video to show up. . .anyway –

A) Started with the surprise-that-I-should-have-expected of the night – Wyrd Sisters Podcast taking on the final Discworld book, “The Shepherd’s Crown!” This is the Tiffany Aching book that kind of wraps up everything for the witches, starting with Granny Weatherwax dying and ending with another climatic battle against the elves. Manning and Liz were fond of it, though admitted it did feel unfinished – but that’s because it IS; poor Terry died before he could give it the attention it deserved. And Manning in particular was hoping that Geoffrey’s storyline would be a little more openly trans-relatable than it was, but Liz insisted its heart was in the right place, I guess? I dunno – it’s still an enjoyable book, and it’s got some great scenes, as all Discworld books do. And I think it’s easier to forgive the weak parts when you remember that this is the last one. :( Apparently the Podcast wraps up next month with a retrospective episode – have to keep an eye out for that!

B) And then it was back a night to check out the GrayStillPlays video I missed yesterday – “Upgrading to the World's Fastest Player in GTA 5!” Yes, after doing his “Strongest Man” parkour board in GTA V, the comment section began asking for “Fastest Man” parkour boards, and Alex and Danny happily delivered. You know a video’s gonna be good when it involves Gray taking almost a quarter of it to get past the first challenge. XD Said first challenge being climbing a super-steep ramp, dodging falling vehicles of all kinds (speedboats, beer trucks, motorcycles, etc.) while avoiding the windmills that occasionally popped up on the sides – WITHOUT the power of super-speed. No, he only got that in the form of a 10X speed power-up when he hit the first checkpoint – at which point he was confronted with the world’s turniest, zig-zaggiest tightrope course and 45 seconds with which to reach the teleporter at the end. Gray had to practice his Floridian drift quite a bit to finally make it across in the time limit! That took him to a spot that increased his speed to 100X, and a pair of checkpoints. Gray chose the left one –

And got teleported back to the beginning slope. Fortunately Alex let him keep his new speed upgrade, so he was able to pretty effectively zoom his way up there (with only a few konks to the noggin from boats) and across the tightrope once more to pick the RIGHT checkpoint – which flung him off the board but ALSO provided a proper respawn, so, yay. This led into the “turbine dodging” course, where Gray had to dance his way across platforms, avoiding the sideways wind turbines trying to knock him off. For additional fun, a couple of the connecting “bridges” were timed (like, they pulsed in and out of existence, at 1 second and 0.5 seconds respectively), and the last two windmills were double windmills. This one took some timing, and a knowledge of how to hit the corners of each platform without massively overshooting. :p And then, finally, we had the “outrun the rocket” board to finish, where Gray had to fire a rocket, outrun said rocket with his new 200x speed, get in a Ruiner car (which looks vaguely like a DeLorean), use it to leap off the platform out of the path of the rocket, and parachute-glide his way through a thumbnail hole into a cylinder to reach the end. Oh, and the floor disappeared after a certain amount of time. This one was all about getting the timing and angle of the rocket right, but when he did – ah. *chef’s kiss* So satisfying. And the comments are ALREADY coming up with new ways to torture him. XD I love this community.

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – reasonably easy night with just two ask replies over on Valice Multiverse, yay! :)

*nods* Good, productive, less stressful night. I approve. And now I have to answer my final comment and then get to bed so I can make it through the first half of Friday. Fingers crossed it's not horrible! Night all!
