Slightly Earlier Slightly Better Tuesday
Sep. 3rd, 2024 11:53 pmFamily Health Update: I'm still testing negative for COVID as of this afternoon, and while my parents are still sick, Mom's still not showing much in the way of symptoms, and Dad's fever has pretty much gone away, which is good. He also kept down his dinner and stayed up watching some TV with Mom for a while in the living room while I hid in my room, so -- progress! We'll see how things go as the week goes on. *nods* For now, the regular to-do list --
Work – Fairly quiet day at work, fortunately – I spent most of the day looking at failed credit cards, catching up on old exceptions (filed a bunch that I’d never heard back from), doing obituaries, and going through parish roster lists, with one credit card call coming in near the end of the day. *shrug* I’ll definitely take it!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, finishing off “The kids are raising the kids in Every Life Stage Challenge! - Part 6” by James Turner! And the episode definitely took a turn for the chaotic for the finale, featuring such things as –
A) Semaj hosting a toddler playdate! Yes, Semaj finished meeting all the toddlers he needed to meet from around the save file (which did not actually include any of Bernice’s children, as it turned out she only had a couple of infants and a newborn when James checked – though she did also have a horse, to which James was like “what???”), then – after a miscalculation where he accidentally scheduled it for Saturday – set up a toddler playdate at Pupperstone Park!
At 8 PM in the middle of winter! XD Yeah, uh, not the best timing, but James was DETERMINED to get the damn thing out of the way before Semaj’s gig and Krystoff’s prom on Saturday. And to his credit, the playdate didn’t start off particularly badly – the toddlers all got to know each other and play a little on the big weird tube thing that James put in the park, and Semaj made hamburgers for them all to chow down on as he hung out with the parents –
But, uh, not everyone was dressed appropriately for the occasion. And while Semaj was able to save ONE person from freezing to death, he wasn’t able to save Jay, dad of one of the toddlers who’d shown up. He tried pleading with the Grim Reaper to spare the poor guy, but no go. So that, as you might imagine, put a damper on things. Not to mention Semaj ALSO invited Mei to the event specifically to divorce her – and ended up accidentally doing it in front of the child he had with her, Pablo. So yeah – by the end of the event, everyone was pretty much fucking miserable. At least they were miserable as a family? *shrug*
B) Semaj attending his Captain Sigma gig! His first gig under his new ad agency – which he did super poorly on because James (understandably distracted by other things) hadn’t gotten him to practice any of the stuff he was supposed to research for the role, AND because Semaj himself was miserable from the death he’d seen at his play date the previous night, meaning he couldn’t fulfill all the tasks and couldn’t even pull off the “safe” version of some of the scenes he was supposed to do. He got a bronze-level payout, and he was lucky to get that! I guess it makes sense that he’d phone it in, after the night he had (and lest we forget, thanks to his early needs struggles, he actually hates acting), but still. Your kids need the money, Semaj!
C) Krystoff attending prom with Raoul! And fortunately for him and his date, this was mostly chaotic in a good way. :) He was able to successfully go to the venue without issue, meet Raoul there, and do a bunch of fun prom-related stuff with him, including some sweetheart dancing and taking a romantic picture together. Krystoff also got Raoul the Prom Royalty crown by voting for him in the election, aww. :) The event ended as a Silver-level prom (James did his best, but it’s really hard to max out the prom rewards bar), and James had the boys go in for their first kiss –
Only for the lot to rebuild itself as the empty auditorium in the middle of the animation and kick them out onto the street. And when Semaj attempted to retry the kiss, Krystoff was once again too sad from the Toddler Playdate Death to think about smooching. *sigh* Ah well!
D) Semaj finding another DNA donor! Yes, with all other tasks completed (Semaj decided to just give Krystoff the “do well on your exams” task because he didn’t want to wait another week and it was kind of James’s fault that he didn’t remember you have to actually GO to high school to see how the exams play out; he’s planning on giving Krystoff a special extra task to complete as a young adult to make up for it), it was time for Semaj to find the next person he wanted to have a science baby with! And after a false start with one of the moms at the deadly playdate (who proved to have the wrong color clothes), Semaj found his donor in Omar, a dude with black hair and tan clothes (which James decided again was “close enough” to brown XD). Semaj and Omar thus went off and had little baby Silas! During which time James spun the wheels to see what Scarlett’s favorite décor, color, and activity were going to be – turns out she’s into Cute stuff, green, and gardening! So that’s all good. :) But yes, with that sorted and Silas officially part of the family, it was time to end the episode on the usual –
E) All the kids aging up! Which took a while as there are a LOT of them – and at one point Krystoff started eating the cake that Semaj made, meaning a new one had to be made to age up Camilo. XD But yes, Krystoff is now a young adult (James has promised to age up Raoul as well); Pablo a teenager; Sunny and Vivienne children; Camilo a toddler; and Scarlett an infant! So Semaj now has more help around the house, but also a lot of people to accommodate in a very small area. Good thing they have some money for renovations! XD
So yeah, that’s that episode done with! :) And I’m quite looking forward to the next one, which will not only see the house expand some more so all the kids can get their own space, but ALSO see Semaj and his family take a trip to Strangerville to eat some bizarre fruit… XD Probably gonna knock out another GSP compilation video next, though!
2. Continue editing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check plus – I actually managed to work on BOTH my WIPs tonight, in a way –
A) First, I had to update one of my potential Valicer In The Dark scores – specifically the one where the trio end up helping Chef Roselle of the Golden Plum restaurant get an exotic and expensive ingredient for a new dish after Smiler overindulges their Pleasure vice there and has to pay her back somehow. Because in my tumblring today, I learned two things –
1. That pineapple skin is WEIRDLY flame-and-heat-resistant
2. That people renting pineapples as a flex to show how rich they were was a thing in Victorian times
And, well, I had already kind of wanted the dish Chef Roselle was working on to be the Duskwallian equivalent of pineapple pizza… XD So yes, the score is now officially helping her acquire the local version of the pineapple, the Dragon’s Bane Fruit, by stealing one from some rich asshole’s dinner party – and I don’t think I can resist making it their nemesis Lord Rowan, aka the guy who is the landlord over most of Six Towers and does not like this trio coming in and trying to improve the lives of the miserable plebs. XD So that’ll be a fun one to do later!
B) And second was the actual editing of “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland,” featuring Alice meeting Igor and his cronies in the parking lot of the Empire Arms Hotel and successfully getting them to delay in demanding Venus’s money by saying she simply didn’t have it yet. And then promising to take a message back to her about how she either pays them, or she pays Boris in a different way. A way that Alice thinks she can already guess at… I left it with her heading back to Confession, eager to get the whole story out of Venus already – we’ll get started on THAT tomorrow!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – two for Tuesday today –
A) First up, we had Josh Way and “RAW TAKE: Strange Darling Review!” This is a new indie “cat and mouse” serial killer thriller that’s starting to get some attention, and Josh wanted to give his thoughts after sitting with the movie a couple of days. Said thoughts consisted largely of “this is a movie that is best seen blind, so please just go and see it before watching the rest of this video because saying ANYTHING about this movie feels like a spoiler” and “the film-making and the actors are amazing, but I don’t like how the movie presented itself as ‘super-cool’ for being shot on film, and I think the second half is weaker than the first.” And that’s all I’ll say in case any of you were planning on seeing it, because I think that’s as unspoilery a sum-up as you can get of his video. XD (I mean, HE didn’t spoil anything specific, but he talked about stuff that could be considered like meta-spoilers for how the movie works, so...yeah.)
B) And second up, we had GrayStillPlays and “When you make a grain of sand hotter than the sun,” aka Gray plays Universe Sandbox 2! Today’s experiment involved Gray making a grain of sand out of the Moon, then shooting it at the Earth at various speeds and various temperatures to see what kind of damage it did, if heating it up did more damage, and what exactly it would take to completely destroy the earth. The answers? Hitting the Earth with anything sub-lightspeed did okay damage (causing the earth to spit out a bunch of fragments in a pretty spectacular lightshow going over its surface, and causing it to be enveloped by a red mist of doom), but you had to get into the lightspeeds to REALLY start hurting the planet; heating it up DID do more damage, though maybe not always the most noticeable amount (though I’m pretty sure the temperature on Earth spiked worse whenever the grain was superheated, and the shockwaves were that little bit worse), and if you wanted to turn Earth into a faux-star that eventually exploded into fragments punching through space at 91 times lightspeed, you had to hit it with a one trillion degrees Celsius grain of sand going one billion times lightspeed. Caused a hell of a show for the rest of the solar system, I can tell you that much!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check and check, happily –
Victor Luvs Alice – Got all six of my Chill Valicer Save posts in the queue for tomorrow’s update so everyone can meet Marm L. Iser officially over there! I also reblogged a post that said “reblog if your friends are talented” (which, they are), and one about how you can get cheap-to-free Paxlovid if you’ve got a prescription (doesn’t help my parents, since the doctor said Dad should just be able fight his infection off, but still felt timely and important to reblog – the link, should it be relevant to you). So that’s good. AND, in looking up Severance stuff on tumblr, I stumbled across someone’s very cool music video to an awesome song, so I stuck that in the drafts as a potential Song Saturday. :D Nice.
Valice Multiverse – One ask from Toonsisters for the queue tonight, about how she made chibi versions of Victor, Alice, and Smiler (and warning that the Alice Chibi bites) – I had the Valicer in the Dark trio respond, with Alice being wary of her chibi self (though understanding of the biting, she chomped on some orderlies in her time in Rutledge); Victor being just straight-up confused; and Smiler being like “hi new friend!” XD So that was fun. :)
Lot of twos for Tuesday here! But that's fine by me, makes me feel like I'm getting some of my productivity back. :) But as it stands, I should really go hit the sack -- got another work day tomorrow! (Health permitting.) Night all!
