The Sweet Taste of Freedom!
Jul. 30th, 2010 11:37 pmI survived my last day! Not that there was much surviving needed, it was actually pretty quiet, especially for a Friday. But I have officially ended my employment at the drycleaner. I have no regrets.
-Muses: *all breathe a sigh of relief at not having to hear me bitch about my job anymore*-
There was one incident before I left, though. One lady was having a suit dry-cleaned for a wedding today. Not only did she not read her ticket and see when the thing was supposed to be ready, when she did pick it up, she tried to pay for a $14 order with a $100 bill! And then complained when I told her I was sorry, but I just didn't have enough to break it. I got her to put it on a credit card, but sheesh.
Ah well. Not my problem anymore. Nothing but boredom will be my problem for pretty much a month. Yes, I do have to prepare for school, but that still leaves plenty of free time. I suspect most of it will be used in sleeping in. ^^;
-D: *good-natured eyerolling* Well, we HAVE been bothering you about getting enough sleep. . .-
Indeedy. But hey, I did finish the last item on my list for this month!
-VD: Oh?-
I think playing as Marty helped me finally get my butt in motion:
Behold, the first chapter of Cinder-Marty!
-VD2: Great Scott, you actually posted it!-
Yeah! Well, not all of it, but the first chapter, anyway. Other chapters shall follow quickly, I promise -- the story IS technically complete. Maybe I'll post one every other day.
-VD2: Sounds like a plan. Good job.-
Thanks. :)
I also have something else FF.net related to show you all -- you guys missed a very silly Mary Sue over in the Corpse Bride section. Some girl joined, posted a story, but took it down almost immediately, saying she got "bored" (methinks she got a "mean" review). I took a screencap before the story disappeared entirely:
( Large Picture Here )
I unfortunately wasn't able to screencap the text, but I did get a chance to read the story before it vanished. Basically, what happens is that Victor wanders away after the events of the movie but before he marries Victoria, ends up in a completely random place, meets the best friend of the Mary Sue, then meets the Sue herself. He and the Sue share a brief conversation, her powers fail for a moment so he can see the Lombax side of her, and somehow this doesn't send him off screaming into the night. They make friendly, the best friend teases them about being boyfriend and girlfriend, and Victor randomly agrees to a real relationship. (Actually, it starts out with some rambling about how great the Sue is, and some chatter about how her vampire powers don't allow her to change Victor, but the story itself doesn't get started until Victor wanders off.) It was the usual poorly-formatted, poorly-written story you'd expect, but I was surprised to find it acknowledging Victor's affection toward Emily at least. And Victoria was never really bashed -- she just didn't exist. Normally these girls can be downright vicious toward canon love interests. Hmmm.
-TTV: *facepalm* I suppose I should just be glad it's vanished.-
Mostly. The best friend is her real-life best friend, who is also an author on FF.net. And if I'm not mistaken, her collection of drabbles in the crossover section, featuring Victor and Karu, still exists.
-TTV: *facepalms again*-
*patpat*
-TD: Why the crossover section? Do they have a special category for sues and self-inserts?-
*snork* No, the author's preferred fandom boy is Alucard from the manga Hellsing. The drabbles switch between the two couples.
-TD: Ahh.-
Anyway! I'm reading some American McGee's Alice stuff, so let me get back to that.
-VM: You are seriously obsessing.-
I can't help it -- the sequel news has reawakened my love for the game. Even if I'm not wild about the sequel at this point. . . .
