Very Busy Friday Night

crossover_chickI had a lot to do this evening, and when you pair that with a long-running game night -- well. I'll let my to-do list do the talking --
Work – Fairly quiet Friday to end the week – spent most of the morning doing the GL, then checked some of the work our processors did (since, you know, I spent a good portion of this month discovering stuff they’d fucked up – very minor amount of stuff to change today, though), then looked at failed credit card stuff, then finally did a little bit of roster maintenance. And then left and proceeded to have a MUCH better ride home, yay. And now it is the weekend, hooray~ I know I just had one, but – still. XD
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – final night on the bike had me watching “Severance & the Critique of Late Capitalism in Media” by Meromorphic! A video discussing “Late Capitalism” (the era we’re all currently living in where everything in our lives seems defined by its value to work and the corporations that seem to control everything), some good examples of it in other media (such as Succession showing and criticizing the lives of the 1%, or Cyberpunk 2077 showing off a world where corporations really DO own everything and everybody), and how Severance takes on the concept (talking about how the innies are essentially slaves in a company that functions a bit like a cult (with Mero making sure to point out that this is not THAT far off reality by talking about how the companies he has worked for have talked up their CEOs as truly amazing people), how the executives keep them in line by keeping focused on working against each other, and going over the catalysts that makes each innie realize that they don’t want to tow the company line anymore and join together to essentially form a sort of proto-union to try and get out). It was a pretty interesting video, and I liked his discussion both of how fucked up Lumon is as a company, and how real-world corporations can be just as fucked up. :) Maybe one day both the innies of Severance and we in the real world can be free from the bullshit of Late Capitalism!
2. Do something with Valicer In The Dark: Check – I made SURE to budget some time to spend with my VITD master doc, and I got some worldbuilding done regarding my version of the magic system! I have established that there’s two ways to do magic – via the language of sorcery, Meta (I think I’m funny), and via strange rituals – and the upsides and downsides of each (Meta is generally a more stable way to wield arcane forces, but you HAVE to be able to speak to use it, and pronunciation can be tricky; rituals often have more powerful effects, but inflict bizarre side effects and aren’t the most reliable). I also added a new bit of slang from the book to my list (“take the devil’s bargain” to indicate something is too good to be true) and made sure to add that the study of ghosts is called “spectrology” to that section. :) Felt good to actually DO something over there again!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Half-check – as tonight’s Game Night featured Monopoly, which always runs long (Mom ended up winning despite having only two monopolies as she somehow ended up with most of the cash, while Dad and I were nearly broke), AND I really wanted to make time for some writing, above, I only had time for one video out of the two there. Went with GrayStillPlays and “Launching animals at the speed of light,” aka Gray plays Golfmasters! This is a game where you play as a polar bear who hits his penguin golf buddy through a variety of African savannah-themed golf courses (using different animal clubs, of course) to get him into the hole at the end, with the purpose of helping said penguin buddy find his lost eggs and return them to his wife so they can be hatched. ...Yes, this is a bit of a strange game, but it’s the sequel to that game where the polar bear was hitting the penguin across the entire planet so the penguin could impress his potential lady love, so what do you want from it? XD Anyway, Gray had fun working his way through the levels (and eventually cheating in tons of money so he could max out the polar bear’s strength; I think he also found a way to skip closer to the end at one point, though he might have also just been playing offscreen), smacking the penguin across the grasslands, off the heads of derpy snakes, and through the intestinal tracts of multiple animals (no, seriously – one of the boosts you can get is either going into an animal’s mouth or up its butt and getting shot out the other side). And occasionally blowing up a faux-Deadpool laying on a pile of TNT that was sitting there for some reason. And sometimes making fruit salads to bring back to the wife to keep her pacified about how long it was taking to get back all of her children. XD Basically, this is a very bizarre game, but a fun one. Perfect to feature on Gray’s channel!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Nothing going on over at Victor Luvs Alice, but on The Valice Multiverse, I had FOUR anon asks for the “universe comparison ask game” stuff! I am starting to think I need to cross over my various Valice and Valicer universes more often. XD Anyway, tonight we had –
A) “Technicolor Phase meets Valicer In The Dark” – featured the VITD trio talking to the TP quartet about the whole “you slowly get colors from meeting people important to you” feature of the Technicolor Phase world – namely, the VITD trio admitting that it would be nice to get an immediate indication that someone WILL be important, while acknowledging that it doesn’t help you figure out HOW they will be important. TP Emily agreed and was understandably bitter about how getting blue from Barkis made her think “he’s my true love” when he ended up being her murderer. :( VITD Smiler tried to cheer her up by telling her about her VITD counterpart burned the guy up with an electroplasm bomb, but all that did was make TP Victoria talk about how she’s hoping VITD Barkis is getting his just punishment and VITD Emily her just reward...cue her going “what do you MEAN, there’s NO AFTERLIFE” ten seconds later. XD Gotta be done!
B) “Inevitable High School AU meets Aperture Wage Slave” – Featured AWS Victor being stunned to learn that Principal Johnson gave a RAISE to a teacher who jumped off the roof and landed on him (an event that happened six years ago, holy shit) and pondering if that means he could get a paycheck for making an attempt on the life of his own Johnson, and AWS Alice going “you don’t know that for sure and maybe don’t talk murder in front of the kids” – only for IHS Alice to go “oh, no worries, we all want him gone too.” XD I mean, Alice, come on, one of those kids is YOU, you know she’s okay with just a little murder.
C) “Forgotten Vows meets Secundus” – Featured FV Victor checking out the butterflies in Secundus Victor’s lab and noting that he’s pretty sure all of them exist in his Butterfly Jungle, with Sec Victor being unsurprised since, you know, they are technically the same person. And then FV Victor admitted he’d love to show Sec Victor the Butterfly Jungle, and Sec Victor pointed out they could try to see if all of FV Victor’s magic still worked...before going, “you know, if a certain someone ever writes that crossover she had planned.” XD Might as well make fun of myself a bit regarding fics I never got to!
D) And a follow-up to the “Valicer In The Dark meets Londerland Bloodlines” one, with someone commenting that someone once told LB Alice that “blurred vision is valued by the blind” (the Mayor Elder of the Torch Gnomes in the first game, if you were wondering) before noting that remembering what the sun is like is probably not something she ever thought would fit that scenario – LB Alice confirmed that, no, no it was fucking not, right before VITD Smiler shocked her again by pointing out they’d survived without a sun for almost 850 years. XD Oh, I love other universes reacting to how fucked up the VITD one is…
So yeah, THAT definitely kept me busy tonight!
Other: And I got 55 pictures sorted for the upcoming Chill Valicer Save update covering Harvestfest! I was hoping to get more – I still need to do Marm interacting with the gnomes and the actual grand meal – but – fuck, I’m tired. ^^;
Aaand yeah -- that about sums up my day. As usual, my time management skills are nearly nonexistent. *sigh* But I am genuinely very tired, as it is very late, so I'm heading to bed. Tomorrow, plans include getting the next Chill Valicer Save updated drafted (once I finish those pictures); working on more Valicer In The Dark stuff; catching up with Josh and keeping up with Gray and Jon on YouTube; and getting my COVID shot. Which is happening at 3 PM, which is partly why I'm not planning on any Sims 4 stuff tomorrow. I mean, I would LOVE to start working on the gang's Selvadorada vacation, but having to pause in what would be the middle of my session to get vaccinated isn't ideal -- and besides, I have so many other things I want to do tomorrow, it feels smarter to just not do the gaming. There will be other weekends! *nods* And now, I'm off to bed. Night all!
