A:MR Problem Conquered!
May. 16th, 2015 11:24 pmHere's how it went down:
-->Redid the beginning of Chapter 3 (complete with reading all the little text blurbs in London again, because we like text blurbs), did some ass-kicking and some dodgy platforming, got up to the Radula Room, did the riddle -- aaand "Alice: Madness Returns has encountered a problem and has stopped working"
-->Got a little upset, wondering if I was going to have to ditch the save entirely or reinstall the game
-->Put it out of my mind for a bit until after lunch (Linkara got his nerd on for a combined Doctor Who/Star Trek comic, w000), then decided to see if there was anything I could Google that could help me
-->. . .turns out this is a well-known and documented bug, with two potential fixes -- either turning the Physx to "Low" just for that Radula Room, or by deliberately fucking up on the first two riddles (there are in fact FOUR potential riddles per Riddle room, it appears, to cover anybody who can't get the first one or two) and then answering the third.
-->Went into the game again after vacuuming, popped into the room, and tried the "answer only the third correctly" fix. Aaaand -- it worked! :D I could finally move on secure in the knowledge I'd beaten the bug! (Mind, there's still the question of why it only popped up now on this computer -- oh, wait a minute! I've never been ABLE to have the Physx higher than Low before! Okay then. At least I didn't get the damn umbrella bug.)
So yeah, game working fine again, progression has been made, cancel the priest. Also, I had a quick look at the walkthrough vids on the Alice wiki, and I know where my missing snout in Chapter 2 is! Turns out I missed one in one of the block puzzle rooms, hidden in the murky water and seaweed. I'd go back to get it, but I'm a little worried it would reset all my progress again. . . Well, I know where it is now, so I can go back once I've completed the game, I suppose. :)
Rather gloomy Saturday today -- ended up going for a half-hour on the elliptical instead of a walk. Which is still good, I like my exercise. I also finished off my editing on Chapter 10 of "Forgetting You," and put some notes on 11 about how the edits in 10 will affect that one. Hooray writing productivity! Most of the rest of the day was spent catching up on stuff, listening to music, watching Helloween's latest set of Bloodborne (shit just gets weirder and creepier), possibly getting two dragons I need (one of my friends scored a Bizarian, and I might be getting one breeding with hers, and it's possible two of my Monoliths have finally produced the last one I need) and -- this evening -- catching up on replies of all stripes. Not much happening on tumblr, but I suspect Dreamwidth is busier than it looks (spotty e-mails are spotty, ugh). So I'm going to go investigate that now. Night all!
