Back To School, McFly
Nov. 7th, 2015 10:04 pmIndeed, the majority of today is set at Hill Valley High, where Marty encounters both his teenage parents again. And discovers, in his own words, "my mother has the hots -- for me??" "Precisely!" He also discovers he may get some of his creative leanings from George, and that they actually share a fear of failure and being rejected. Unfortunately, this comes with learning George is much too shy and anxious to even think of trying to get together with Lorraine (not helped by Biff trying to put the moves on her too), and so, by afternoon's end, Marty has to come up with rather out of this world plan. . .
But enough about that I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT ALICE: OTHERLANDS AND WASTED POTENTIAL.
All right, so I finally got the MEGAsync client McGee and company are using to store their files to work, and thus got my Alice: Otherlands digital artbook. I'm looking through it in my PDF viewer, admiring the pretty artwork, reading up on the production of "Leviathan" and "A Night at the Opera" --
And I come across the original storyboards and original script for the latter.
Five minutes after reading said original script, I went "FUCK the short, THIS is my canon."
No, seriously, the original script is so much better. THERE IS A FUCKING UNDEAD ARMY IN IT. The dialogue's also clearer -- I found the short itself a touch hard to follow, even with knowing the plot was an abbreviated and adapted version of "The Ring Cycle." And paired with the storyboards, where Alice looks like -- well, Alice, and -- arrrrrgh this should have been traditionally animated instead of using that puppet whose face I just realized is too wide whyyyyy
All right, I know why, they were on a budget, BUT STILL. *grumble*
Spent most of the day either out and about or busy writing. This morning was taken up with the crafting session with my mother and coworkers over in West Warwick. Mom and I made little Kleenex holder pouches while everybody else did jarred treats (caramel apple mixes and the like). Mom got along with everybody, which was nice -- lots of compliments on the little pouches, along with suggestions about selling (which we're not doing, Mom just wanted a non-food project that could be given away as presents). Couple that with yummy food (spinach and artichoke dip from Mom, sloppy joe mix from my coworker Wendy), and it was a pretty good time. Then this afternoon, after vacuuming and doing some catch-up on other things, was spent largely editing that last section of Chapter 21, where Alice encounters the first Victor Dollhouse memory. Which took longer than anticipated, as the section starts with my version of Lorina's "please be more careful with the carving knife" memory, and it turns out neither Helloween nor Rythian (my go-to guys for Alice LPs) got that one! *facepalm* Fortunately the Alice wiki was helpful in this regard, and I got it under control in the end. Now we just have to make final tweaks. . . I even managed to fit in a bit of Sims 4, playing through Emmett's welcome wagon scenario. And discovering a) he's too poor to afford a computer, b) his house didn't have a front door, and c) his kitchen had unusable counters. Fun. The latter two have been fixed, but he'll have to wait for the active career to get his computer. Have to make do with games on your phone, buddy!
Of course, all this means I'm rather behind on everything else. So I think I'd better hop off and start doing RP replies all over the place. Night all!
