Improvement Friday
Apr. 5th, 2019 11:12 pmThere were still a few things here and there (some stuff in the mail that's got to be run by the director, and a phone call that required me to get the help of a translator elsewhere in the building), but it was pretty quiet, and I was able to clear out a bunch of old paper sitting on my desk, so that was nice, at least? I'll take any day that I don't feel super stressed. . .and I was able to pass on some of the clothes my aunt gave me but which either didn't fit me or I didn't feel looked good onto my coworkers, which was nice. They've been giving me thank-you gifts; now I get to give something back. :)
And then I got another present upon getting home -- silicone BTTF ice cube tray! A present from my aunt, who dropped by today (Mom gave her her birthday present) -- she got it off a coworker who bought it but never used it. (And so the circle of life continues.) I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for, beyond perhaps some novelty ice cubes (natch), but it was a nice gesture, and I wrote her a thank-you e-mail. Also added airtime to my phone, as I was close to running out. Getting the important things done this afternoon.
After supper, I moved onto more of Chapter 18 of "Fixing You." June's been reunited with her mother and met Bonejangles, and Lorina is gushing over her daughter the bride. Though said gush may be interrupted by Alice's revelation that she and Victor got married by registrar. XD Eh, they'll understand once Victor and Alice explain their reasons. Coming up on the final few surprises, yay~
Then it was time for the vidyas! I only had one thing in my subscriptions today: The Sim Supply showing off a new mod for The Sims 3, where you can take direct control of your Sim in third-person mode by pressing F1 and then directing them where to go with WASD. (You still need the mouse to get them to interact with stuff, though.) Works for Sims of all ages and species! It is a pretty neat mod, but -- well, it's for Sims 3, which I have always thought was the worst-looking of the games. And James playing around with the mod in its world did not disabuse me of this notion. Especially considering how stuttery the game is. . .I suddenly have a whole new appreciation for Sims 4.
After that I watched the second half of the Hitman 2 Whittlestone Creek "3 Ways To Play" episode from OXBox. :D To recap, in the first half everyone took out Nolan Cassidy, one of the main players in the "Providence" bad guys -- Andy via stealthy exterminator antics; Jane via accidental lasering/explosions in a house-for-sale's safe room; Mike by attempting to blow him up via barbecue propane tank, failing that, then dressing up as a clown and shooting him from a treehouse. Today, the three took out Janus, the second target (another previous high-ranking member; now an old man on oxygen). Again, Andy was a consummate professional and silently killed him via gramophone distraction and screwdriver to the neck. He even took the trouble to set up a crime scene again! Jane, meanwhile, blundered her way into pretending to be the guy's replacement nurse -- then accidentally ended up in a TIMED CHALLENGE once one of Janus's bodyguards went to perform a background check that 47 just couldn't pass. She managed to escape the room she'd been locked in and kill Janus before she was made (after listening to a VERY long story about super-soldier programs), but it was a VERY close call. And Mike. . .
Mike traded his clown outfit for a gardener outfit to get into Janus's place; then knocked out a guard to move undetected in the house; killed Janus's main bodyguard with a screwdriver; discovered he could THROW A BLOCK OF REMOTE DETONATION C-4 AT JANUS'S HEAD; proceeded to explode him with said C-4 after he'd been knocked unconscious; and then whined that he had to do the intel-gathering part of the mission because now the fun part was over. And then insisted on going BACK for his clown outfit before finishing the level, and PICKING UP A FIRE AXE as he left because he wanted to go "full IT." XD And YET, because he stumbled into the place where you could erase the surveillance tapes, and bothered to actually hide a few bodies, he still got TWO STARS for the level. Hitman 2 has decided there is no point in trying to shame Mike anymore. XD
And after that, a quick video about Pokemon that started out cute, and are now creepy, from the OXtra team. Apparently Rattata suffers from a real world rodent and lagomorph problem in that its front teeth never stop growing, to the point where a Rattata which does not have enough stuff to chew will have the teeth grow too long and starve. :( Also Eevees can start resembling their owners a little TOO much, facially, and Cubone's cries for its mother attract vulture Pokemon. You know, for kids! *shakes head*
And then the rest of the evening has been webcomics and getting caught up on tumblr tags and queues. Valice Multiverse is set for the night, so now I just have to answer the stuff in my inbox, and head on over to my usual Friday night business with friendo. Tomorrow -- well, hopefully they're right about the rain ending in the morning and the afternoon being in the 60s. And maybe Outlook will start working on things not Chrome again. . . Night all!
