crossover_chick: Doc looking very sarcastically over his shoulder (BTTF: in a sarcastic mood)
Work wasn't bad -- I actually finally got caught up on some of the gifts that were languishing thanks to my illness, and and even managed to start clearing out some old returns. There was a break in the weather around lunchtime, allowing me to get in a walk and even visit the bank. The commute in was great, and the commute home not horrible (though there was another load of surprisingly thick traffic on the main drag). I got my Victor Luvs Alice queue sorted on tumblr (after listening to a few cool Alice remixes, and a new A:MR music video someone posted in the tag) and a few more things loaded into drafts. I got a good chunk written on "Secundus 2" -- reunion scene has happened, and even more amusingly than the first time around! :) And I watched two videos -- a "Fun With Shorts" about being fair (typical 40s/50s crap, made better by Josh's snarky comments) and a Call Me Kevin video about a truly terrible Home Alone game (which I am convinced was just some sort of awful puzzle game that had the Home Alone license hastily slapped onto it). And then I started watching the latest episode of Atop The Fourth Wall --

Only for Firefox to abruptly disable all of my add-ons.

Cue me being "WTF?!" and scrambling to find out what had happened. I bring up my Addons manager, and they're all reading the same thing: "[addon] could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled." Which makes absolutely NO sense to me, given that they were working not five minutes ago. So I try to redownload Adblocker Plus, since that's one of the most important ones.

Tells me "Download failed, check your connection."

Okay, our internet HAS been iffy from time to time because our local company is staffed with liars, but it's been working tonight. I try again, with that and the LJ Juggler addon -- still giving me the same error message. I try Googling what's up, only to come up with a) problems that were hopefully resolved years ago and b) an announcement that add-ons with obfuscated code are going to be disabled -- June 10th. Absolutely baffled, I try closing and reopening Firefox -- nope, same issue. I grit my teeth, close out my documents, and prepare to completely restart my computer --

And then I think, "No, I'll give Googling it one more try." So I pop into Chrome (since Firefox looks weird without my -- theme, I guess? Yes, that got disabled too), and try Googling one more time.

And THAT'S when I find the reddit thread with someone else saying this happened to them. So, okay, at least it's not me. I read through the thread -- this guy fixed it by fiddling with his system clock, but someone else had the same problem, and poking at their clock did nada. I don't particularly want to screw with my laptop's time settings for this, so I go into the Firefox subreddit to do more research. Which is pretty easy, as a whole BUNCH of these threads have suddenly popped up.

And in one of them, I FINALLY find a bug report. What appears to have happened is a intermediate certificate -- something that allows the addons to be verified, it seems -- has expired (midnight 5/4/19 UTC time -- mine went out around 9 PM EST), meaning almost every Firefox addon has been disabled because it can't be verified anymore. Apparently Mozilla is aware of the problem, but who knows when it's going to be fixed. *sigh* So someone shit the bed in failing to renew that certificate, and now I'm feeling kind of adrift because I don't want to see ads on my websites (both because annoying and because who knows if any of them have malware?) and a bunch of other fairly necessary add-ons to my online experience got disabled. I'm only on here because, well, I know Dreamwidth is a safe haven -- no ads, no weird scripts, none of that. And while I have Chrome, I only ever set it up as a way to use my Valice Multiverse tumblr without logging out of my main on Firefox. I mean, obviously I can add bookmarks and set up things over there, but that's going to take some time, and a lot of looking up passwords, and -- I'm already grumpy. VERY glad I got the Victor Luvs Alice stuff sorted earlier today. . .

All right. Time to figure out how the hell I'm going to handle tonight. I CAN at least answer DW comments because -- thanks to the time LJ Juggler stopped working for a different reason -- I have the login page to Dreamwidth bookmarked. Tumblr. . .I suppose I CAN just go to the site, the new color scheme doesn't actually hurt my eyes, but I don't know if I trust the blocked ads, and I've got all these other little things from newXKit that just make life easier. . .maybe I'll see about finishing my queue on Valice Multiverse and switching to my main over on Chrome. My other sites. . .again, nervous about bad ads, and just not really interested in seeing ads. And my mood's tanked, so that doesn't help matters. *deep sigh* I'll figure it out as I go along. Night all.
