Muggy Old Saturday
Jul. 6th, 2019 11:18 pmYeah, I didn't go outside myself, but my parents did, and I was assured it was OPPRESSIVELY muggy today. Like, really really bad. And even though we've had some rain this evening, apparently it hasn't cleared out as predicted yet. Ooof. I'm really hoping it's better -- and drier -- like they said it would be tomorrow. It would be nice to get in an outdoor walk again, or open my windows. I like summer, but a little more in theory than in practice. Really, the best days in New England are late spring and early fall, when you still have plenty of sunlight and warmth, and the nights are cool enough for sleeping without having to rely on AC. If we could just have some variation on THAT all year round. . .
Anyway! Been kind of a lazy Saturday -- well, I SAY that, it was a cleaning Saturday, so I spent a good chunk of the morning and a smaller one of the afternoon cleaning my room. But the rest of the day was fairly chill:
-->Watched two more riddles videos with Jay & Kassie -- the themes today being "cheating wives" and "lost children." And getting bamboozled by clip art. Jay was in good form, though, managing to suss out a good number of the riddles on Kassie's video. I was duly impressed.
-->Started up my new Vampire Saturdays playthrough of Bloodlines as Alice the Malkavian! With an added twist thanks to the Unofficial Plus patch -- a history! You see, the game was supposed to have potential histories (backgrounds or specific ways your clan curse has affected you) to provide additional challenges while making your vampire, but the feature was cut out of the vanilla game. The Unofficial Plus patch adds them back in, and I decided to have a quick look at what was available for a female Malkavian, just for shits and giggles.
One of them was "Subtly Insane." With the flavor text indicating that the Malkavian in question is actually lucid enough to hold regular conversations with people, and that you might not guess right off the bat she was mad -- but she has extra madness abilities in combat. The mechanical effect was a free dot of Dementation (bringing that up to 2 right from the start), but she can never raise her Dodge above 3.
Just from the flavor text, I decided I had to apply that history to Alice. I mean -- it's exactly what I envisioned for her in "Londerland Bloodlines." Yeah, it has no effect on the actual Malkavian dialogues in-game, but it's nice for RP purposes. And I have Fish choosing Alice as a Childe because he sensed the madness in her and wanted to unleash it fully, so her having extra Dementation abilities from the word "go" makes sense! I'll deal with the limited Dodge. :p I already had the rest of her stats worked out from an earlier tumblr post, so I just plugged those in and set off! So far, I've only gotten through the initial tutorial quest (which I definitely needed, if only for refamiliarizing myself with the controls), but I'm looking forward to going through the rest of the game and trying to do what I think Alice would do. Makes a nice counterpart to my Fallout 4 Victor run!
-->Updated my Londerland Bloodlines document with the new info and all of Alice's stats, plus did a little short scene from an AU of the AU I came up with semi-recently -- where the gang would find a fair of Pernese fire lizards living around Hill Valley's lake and end up with a bunch after attending a hatching and Impressing some flitts. (Apparently vampires AND dragons is a thing with me now. *facepalm*) It's a pretty rough scene of Victor telling them he saw dragons at the lake and then bringing up the Pern book series, but the important thing is to write each day, not to get it perfect each day.
-->Watched Outstar's video on the technical aspects of Bloodlines 2 -- why it's in first-person, what's going on with the animations, stuff like that. She tried to defend the decision to have the game solely be in first person with occasional third-person pull-backs to show off certain actions, but I don't think most of the commenters were buying it. Me, I'm kind of used to first-person after three years of BioShock, but I can understand the annoyance over not having the choice, especially since Bloodlines gave you both perspectives. The animations I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on -- there's still a good chunk of time until the game is released, so they have at least some sort of window to shore things up. And as Outstar pointed out, they're dealing with much more realistic models this time around, in a new era of graphics quality, so. . .
-->And watched Helloween's latest Secret of Mana 2 set -- which largely consisted of him going "I have played the game so long by this point all of its little flaws are really starting to grind my gears." XD Poor guy, he has so much trouble with iffy spell queues, and laggy spell animations, and spells that just don't affect bosses like he feels they should. On the plus side, he's finally defeated one of said bosses -- the Dark Knight, who turned out to be a corrupted version of Duran's father. (Yes, he wasn't impressed with the plot twist either.) He had to retreat from the dungeon that followed right after, though -- hard-hitting enemies with spells and powers he didn't expect, nearly decimating his team. Time for some off-screen grinding, it appears! And some getting of new weapons -- dude's completely forgotten he hasn't gotten the good stuff for Angela and Carlie yet. *sigh* Don't start turning into the Sim Supply on me, Hells. I can only take ONE LPer I regularly watch pulling that.
And now I'm knee-deep in the RPing and answering tumblr messages thing. One of my RP partners is getting into Bloodlines herself through a favorite LPer and wants to talk AUs, so I'd better get back to that. Keep your fingers crossed that we get the nicer weather tomorrow! Night all!
