AC Saturday
Jul. 20th, 2019 11:39 pmThe temperature on the porch in the sun at the hottest part of the day read 114 F today! Granted, I don't know if it really got THAT warm, but it was definitely a hot one. I ended up staying inside all day -- neither Mom nor I wanted to go out driving after lunch, so we've postponed that until tomorrow. Which is supposed to be just as hot as today, but -- well, whatevs. THIS car has working AC, so it won't be much of an issue. And it's just up to my work and back so I can get a little more used to driving this car. Shouldn't take more than a half-hour as long as traffic's not too evil. I can dig it.
Anyway, yes, a definite hang around the house day. I did all the usual things I do on a Saturday:
-->Finished up the dusting I couldn't get to yesterday because it requires me to stand on my bed, and the best time to do THAT is when I'm in the middle of changing the sheets
-->Watched a couple of Sims 4 videos by GrayStillPlays, suggested to me by a tumblr friend -- he's the kind of person who does "social experiments" in the game, by which I mean he does things like have house full of female serial killers (possible with the Extreme Violence mod), male serial killers, and hot dog men (aka Sims in hot dog costumes), and set them against each other to see who lives the longest (one of the male serial killers, by virtue of one of the female ones getting stuck in an inaccessible location and slowly starving to death). Or make a family of pyromaniacs in a house full of fireworks, grills, and other burnable objects, and seeing who survives the longest there (answer: THE FIRE -- it got into a section of the house where the Sims couldn't reach it to put it out, and since the game won't let Sims do anything else if there's a fire, those who hadn't burned to death in the initial catastrophes STARVED because they literally couldn't go and eat. Granted, this was fire that had been modded to spread and burn really aggressively, but still). It's that kind of dark Call-Me-Kevin-style humor I like XD Apparently his other videos are great too, so I'll have to check out a few more.
-->Did my marathon of OXBox/OXtra vids -- Commenter Edition of title screens that went the extra mile (including a really touching one from Detroit: Become Human, and the pretty scenery of Columbia from BioShock Infinite); unintentionally creepy children from video games (there are SO MANY); "hopeless" boss fights you can actually power through if you try hard enough (but it's probably not worth it, given the game either a) forces you into a variation on the losing condition to keep the plot going, or b) gives you a less-than-satisfactory ending); Commenter Edition on the weirdest button prompts in games (such as throwing a head at a serial killer you can track down in Red Dead Redemption 2, or the infamous "press X to JASON!" from Heavy Rain -- JASON!); and the boss fights the OXBox and OXtra teams said rocked them the hardest (everyone picked a pretty epic boss fight from a fairly modern game -- except Mike, who went all the way back to Contra III to discuss his beloved killer robots). I unfortunately did not get to the latest Hitman 2 offering, which apparently is all about the fish slappage -- will have to lead off with that tomorrow! XD
-->Did the second draft of a gift fic for another tumblr friend today -- was rather important to get it done, as their birthday is on Monday. But I did it, and I'm slapping it in the Victor Luvs Alice queue now, hooray~ Hopefully they like it -- I did my best to hit every instruction they gave!
-->Played some more Bloodlines -- didn't QUITE get through what I consider another day in Alice's timeline, but I got a fair bit done! Started off with the "Bloody Mess" quest at the clinic -- had my PC Alice Dement the front receptionist to gain access, which turned out not to have any funny dialogue and thus wasn't really worth the blood. (Fic Alice is just going to sneak in the back way again.) Found the werewolf blood on the third floor -- accidentally ran into the guard while trying to sneak, and much more successfully Demented him into giving me his keys and just ignoring my existence. And then I headed downstairs and did "Trick or Treatment," since I'd established that Alice was in the middle of smuggling out the werewolf blood when she encountered Victor in the ficlets I'd already written. Heather was saved, Malcolm successfully blackmailed, all is well in the world. Except for poor Alice being super hungry thanks to me using up a lot of blood on the visit, and not having enough money to buy a blood pack. And nobody was going behind the Asylum to pee. >( At least not without someone else using the payphones inconveniently nearby. . .
Eventually I gave up on feeding for a bit and went into the Asylum to meet the Voerman sisters. Made sure to be reasonably friendly to both Jeannette and Therese (I want to see if I can save them both in-game -- Alice is going to do so in the fic, regardless of LP outcome, though), and got the Ocean House quest from Therese. Also found Knox hanging out in the upper area and got his "hunted hunter" quest from him -- and had enough inspection to call him out on his bullshit and get him to confess that Bertram set this up so she'd kill a potential spy for him. XD Fortunately Alice was feeling generous and agreed to help. This also will get me over to Kilpatrick, so I can start up THOSE side quests. :D That's for later, though -- for now, I had Alice unsuccessfully chat up a potential blood doll, then FINALLY snag a drink off a pee-man before heading into the sewers near her haven and making her way to the Ocean House. I saved it there -- next time, I'll have her go through the haunted level and head back to her haven, and that'll finish off the next day in the timeline. I'm really enjoying this playthrough -- both because Bloodlines is a great (if very janky) game, and because it's nice to be able to properly organize an AU I've really come to love. I really do need to see if I can make a proper fic out of it someday. . .just, woo, Bloodlines is a looong game. . .
-->Posted another "heavily edited from the original because the original was written in 2010" Scene From Secundus: Perspective (And Everything Else) Flip Just a bit of silly fun about Richard's shop getting flipped upside-down internally by an invention, and Victor not discovering this until he's already stepped over the threshold and tumbled down into what used to be the roof. XD I'm so mean to him sometimes. . .
And that plus doing the RP thing this evening, and having the last of Dad's birthday cake for dessert, has been my day, more or less. Perhaps nothing too special, but it was pretty relaxing and fun, all things considered. :) Hopefully tomorrow will be more of the same! Night all!
