Unfortunately Snowy Sunday
Dec. 1st, 2019 11:21 pmYup -- started snowing this afternoon, and continued for a good chunk of the evening. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be doing anything now, and Mom says it's only about an inch or so. . .however, it IS supposed to start snowing again overnight and into tomorrow morning, soooo -- will be keeping an eye on the delay list. Might want to leave a bit earlier if there isn't one too. . .
Anyway, not too much to report on this Sunday, if only because I had to actively stop myself a couple of times from being sucked into TV Tropes. *sigh* But I got some stuff done -- largely Sims-themed, as promised:
-->Baked my muffins -- and did 'em after lunch instead of after supper as usual because, well, I decided I just wanted to get that out of the way. Came out nice, and so I am set for breakfast for the next couple of weeks.
-->Played Sims 4 -- taking Wheatley to StrangerVille did indeed allow me to cure him! But, uh, like an idiot, I'd changed Chell's aspiration to Painter Extraordinaire -- and forgot to change it back before she splashed him. So I ended up having to go BACK to the lab and make ANOTHER vaccine/cure and use it on Ted (another known infected) so I could complete that part of the StrangerVille Mystery aspiration. *sigh* At least I was able to get Wheatley recruited to fight Audrey III without issue!
Anyway -- did all that, then triggered my plant boss fight! It was very dramatic, and actually went pretty well -- I paced myself, and made sure to take a couple of breathers so my gang of plant-killers didn't get infected before the Mother Plant fell. They succeeded after a good couple of hours of spraying, and then Chell and Wheatley took Erwin and Jess to 8 Bells for some victory drinks. :) So now the town is saved, Chell has a trophy she's displaying on the dresser, and Wheatley doesn't get Possessed in the middle of the night anymore. Hooray! And all in time for Winterfest -- which is going to be a little more summery this year, as I feel they've earned a day trip to Sulani after all that! :D So that'll be fun.
-->Caught up on a few YouTube videos:
A) The Bigwallet Zoo in Planet Zoo -- James spent most of this video designing his new multi-species habitat, a big "Africa" exhibit. It looks pretty cool, thought the zebras currently living in there are showing that his big old cliff faces on either side aren't QUITE steep enough to keep them fully in. . . He also had to send most of his timber wolves away because of fighting and inbreeding. :( Also his zoo is almost out of money because AESTHETICS. XD Ah well, he's got a loan -- how bad could it be? :p
B) We're also back with the "Rags To Enrichment" gang -- Bob has re-enrolled for his next term, taking a lighter course load so he can have more of a social life. Trash has followed him to Foxbury, as promised, taking a full course load but at least not having to juggle a job on top of it. And they're both in the "house" dorm on-campus, which James spent a good chunk of the episode making over so they could fit ten Sims into it. And then having to re-make over a couple more times to properly party it up and add another bathroom, because originally there were only two and it was causing -- problems. XD He threw a kegger for Bob, which went decently despite Bob sleeping through part of it -- and then had to drag the exhausted Bob back onto his feet for work like two hours after the party ended. XD Yeah, I get the feeling this is going to be an interesting semester. . .at least poor Trash got a much-needed makeover!
C) Caught up on the latest Atop The Fourth Wall -- the first appearance, not of a character, but of the DC Multiverse! As shown in a Flash story where Barry Allen managed to vibrate his way into the world of the Jay Garrick Flash (the original Flash, who happens to be a comic book character in Barry's world -- meta!). Yes, vibrate -- apparently parallel worlds in this multiverse coexist by being on different vibrational frequencies, and if you're a super-speedster who can vibrate fast enough. . .yeah, I don't pretend to understand it. But it was a fun little story with Barry and Jay working together to defeat some foes of Jay's who had recently escaped from jail and having a good time. I like these kind of low-stakes multiverse stories -- sometimes, it's just fun to have the characters MEET, you know? Without any world-ending to make everyone cranky.
D) Checked out Plumbella doing the nostalgia thing and building a house in the original Sims -- which, uh, both exposed the limitations of the format (remember when nothing could be recolored? When there were no windows and doors that truly matched? When you couldn't build above two stories? When things weren't EVEN FULLY 3-D??) and threw a little shade on Sims 4 (I shipped WITH pools and terrain editing, bitch -- AND had more for children to do). It turned out to be a pretty decent little house in the end -- the comments section is now suggesting she try to recreate it across the series, which I think would be cool. :)
E) Watched a big old video about mods for Discover University -- big ones from making the experience cost more, adding a prep school option for teenagers, and adding the chance to be rejected, to little ones like choosing your own helmet color, and fixing some bugs related to the sports stadium. Good stuff, and probably gonna pick up a few mentioned there!
F) And watched a smaller mod showcase from onlyabidong, who showed off a selection of mods from a friend of his who does conversions of certain stuff for kids -- like cooking, magic, and robotics. She even makes child-friendly versions of counters, stoves, and suchlike! :D It's really awesome, and makes me super proud of the modding community. w000!
-->Got another first-draft gift fic done, so that's good! Going back to vampires and steampunk tomorrow, but I think I'll be taking Fridays through Sundays for Christmas fics for the next few weeks. Or, well, I'll START with that, then probably take maybe the week before Christmas to refine them before posting. We'll see how the creativity flows!
And with that, I need to hit the sheets -- back to work tomorrow, and, as stated, I might have to leave a bit early thanks to road conditions. We'll see how it is in the morning. *grumbles* At least I only have to get through a couple of weeks before I get another good chunk of time off. Night all!
