Slushy, Busy Monday
Dec. 2nd, 2019 11:13 pmYeah, back to the grind on this slushy, slushy morning. Fortunately the roads for me were pretty clear and I made it in on time, so that wasn't an issue. Also the GL was less of an issue than I was expecting -- I thought for SURE there was gonna be this huge burst of activity on Friday just because, but nope! Granted, there was a lot that went on the Wednesday BEFORE we left that I had to catch up on, but -- got it all to work in the end! (We hope, anyway. . .) And the rest of the day was the usual "can you look at this" "can you talk to that person" stuff I get in my e-mail. *sigh* Well, made the day go by. Plus our interim director let us go home a bit early! Mostly because the weather was starting to get bad again (we're expecting a couple more inches of snow overnight -- exact totals are unknown, because it's one of those storms where, if something shifts just slightly, we could get either like no snow or a foot), and he wanted to let us go before traffic started getting really snarled up. So I got a little extra time at home, which I used to renew my AAA membership and read some TV Tropes. :p
Rest of the night can be summed up thusly:
-->Got in a workout video, yay~
-->Wrote some more on "Londerland Bloodlines" -- which was slower going than expected this time because I ended up researching what operating systems a computer might be using in 2004 (prime candidate is some variation on Windows XP), and checking what the Santa Monica's haven's laptop actually LOOKS like to see if it has a touchpad or what (it does seem to have one). If you're wondering why THAT'S important, I've made the executive decision to move the computers from the purely text-based version in-game to something a little more realistic. Also along that line, I'm moving the two notes on the desk and the money Mercurio gives you to the mailbox, because they wouldn't have been there last night, Alice literally just moved in. . . You know, I expected to have to figure out a way to deal with stuff like the inventory system (Alice is not blessed with bottomless pockets in my story -- I'm starting to think an early purchase of hers is a big deep bag she can hide stuff in) and of course how to keep track of the passage of time (the playthrough is a big help, though I am going to have to tweak here and there to keep the story flowing properly), but stuff like this I never even considered. Well, I went into this knowing it was going to be a long-haul story. . .
-->Watched the latest "Rags to Enrichment" episode -- despite James claiming that this is going to be Bob's "party semester," he and Trash have been pretty diligent about attending class and hitting the books! James even picked up a mod that has a bunch more university-inspired custom aspirations so Trash can have an appropriate aspiration during her student years. (He picked "Balanced Life," which -- should be interesting? XD) He did have her throw a kegger with the few friends she has, though -- got silver, so that was nice! (Hell, it's a surprise it got that far, given James had to buy a new keg when the one she was using started glitching out -- she couldn't refill it because apparently someone else kept trying, which was annoying.) And Bob has joined the Bot Savants, so Robotics are definitely going to be a thing in his future. Not to mention, James is very interested in joining the Secret Society. . .never a dull moment in this LP!
-->Hey, remember that tumblr post I linked to that had selections from an early Corpse Bride script? Well, the creator of that post, upon seeing me reblog it with some additions and wondering where it came from, provided me with the link! It's available on ScriptSlug in a PDF -- and after a look-over, I have discovered:
A) All the songs are MUCH worse, wow. Like -- yeah, really bad.
B) This version leans way too heavily on comedy, which just seems tonally inappropriate for the final product (which has its funny moments, but I wouldn't call it a full-on comedy). That being said, I did get quite a few chuckles out of stuff like Reginald Broom Van Dort (who makes MULTIPLE APPEARANCES)
C) Barkis Bittern in this version is the Everglot's LAWYER, wtf (insert all your favorite "evil lawyer" jokes here)
D) Victor actually straight up ATTACKS the guy when Emily's able to prove he's the guy who murdered her (go Victor!)
E) Emily is a lot more tricksy and possessive in this version and it makes her into a much less likeable character. We really needed that "I could never ask him" moment we got in the finished version of the film.
F) Hildegarde actually does a HELL of a lot more to help Victoria in this version, even accompanying her to see Galswells! Maybe doesn't have the same dramatic impact of "Victoria against the world" in the film, but it is sweet.
G) By contrast, the Van Dorts in this version justify every reason I have to hate them. I mean, seriously, they're WORSE than they are in the film. The Everglots too, honestly -- who knew rewrites would actually soften the parents slightly?
Anyway this is amazing and I have to do a tumblr post later sharing all this with the world~
-->Speaking of tumblr posts got the pictures and some starter paragraphs queued up for this week's Newcrest Adventures update, despite the major distraction of that script. XD So at least I'm good there!
And now it's time to answer comments and head to bed. So far, everything's looking normal when it comes to going into work -- a lot of the schools and such have delays or closures, though, so we'll see what happens when I get up in the morning! Would be nice to maybe get an extra hour in the morning. . . *shrug* For now, though, good night!
