crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)
Yup, late this afternoon, I FINALLY installed my first three mods via Vortex into Fallout 4 -- the "baby's first mod" that Nexus Mods provides as a tester (just changes the start-up screen to a static image of the T-60 Power Armor helmet with the Nexus Mods logo in the corner); the "Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch" (which is basically all bugfixes and whatnot); and the manually-installed "Achievements Mod Enabler" (which re-enables achievements; Bethesda disables them when you mod, and this overrides that). I opened up the game each time to make sure everything was working -- had a bit of stutter at the beginning of the play-sessions after the second two mods were installed, but I'm not sure if that was a result of the mods, or having other stuff open while Fallout 4 was running. Either way, the game ran without exploding -- though I exploded a couple of times thanks to getting into repeated fights with Super Mutant Suiciders and overpowered robot patrols. Well, I'm just wandering around to see if I have any immediate problems, so it's not a huge deal. Not to mention, my desire to restart, rejigger Victor's stats (and maybe try again with his face), has just gotten stronger now that I've started actually modding. Using what I've got so far as a testing save for some of the mods I have in mind -- seeing if they work correctly and whatnot -- seems like a good shout for now. We'll see how it goes.

Rest of the day wasn't much special:

-->Most of the morning was spent either looking at mod stuff on Nexus Mods, or working on my planned Thursday post -- converting my Bloodlines!Alice's WoD-style stats to the Fallout 4 SPECIAL and Perks system. I've actually made pretty good progress -- I've figured out her SPECIAL, and now I just have to finish off with her Perks tomorrow morning. This is weird but fun, which is about all I can ask for. XD

-->On the YouTube front, it was essentially all Fallout 4, all the time. To whit, we had:

A) Some more from Fluffy Ninja Llama – companions reacting to someone building their own nuke in the basement of their cabin (which, uh, all feels very hypocritical when you remember Fat Man mini-nuke launchers are a signature weapon in this series), the story of the ghoul blue whale roaming the Pacific (which may in fact be an old Chinese nuclear sub), and a frankly horrifying series of holotapes on a woman who deliberately exposed herself to lethal amounts of radiation to test a serum to reverse the effects. . .only to find that the serum didn't work at toxic levels. :( It's – heavy stuff. (And even more horrifying, the house where you find it? Home to a Glowing Feral Ghoul, which are created by being exposed to toxic amounts of radiation. . .)

B) Two videos from Mitten Squad about silly ways to try and beat Fallout 4 – namely, can you do it without spending any caps? (Yes you can – though he nearly forgot himself once bribing someone; the trick is to be a Scrounger so you never have to worry about ammo and then just go around being a murdery bastard) And can you beat it with the Commie Whacker DLC weapon, which is essentially a "Whack-A-Mole" inflatable mallet? (ALMOST – unfortunately, to get it, you have to beat Overboss Colter, which means you HAVE to use another weapon to kill him. So the answer is technically "no," but Paul decided to see if he could beat the game FROM THAT POINT ON with the Whacker, and he did manage to cut his bloody, bloody swath through the Commonwealth.)

C) Two videos from Juicebox about Fallout 4 mods – one about providing whole new experiences to go through the game (changing up how you interact with the central story – including providing new paths and factions to side with, replacing all the weapons with more modern counterparts, or just causing a zombie apocalypse), and ones that just polish the place up a little (like making power armor a little more rare, but a little more powerful, or allowing you to travel with Dogmeat AND another companion, like you should). First was cool just to see the wild things people have done with this game; second was more to my interests in modding my own game.

D) A handful of videos on a couple of those mods, like Sim Settlements (which gives building settlements in this game the SimCity treatment – lay down some plots, and people will build their own homes and stores!), Backpacks of the Commonwealth (which, as stated, puts backpacks in the game), and Everyone's Best Friend (the aforementioned "Dogmeat can come along with you AND a human/robot companion" mod). All neat stuff!

E) And three videos from Oxhorn – the most efficient settlement one can make (24 settlers, 24 mutfruit trees, 11 bars, 2 gorillas, and a turret – yes, really, this gives you plenty of food, defense, happiness, and scrap, so long as you remember to clean out the workbench every once in a while); four different ways to set up supply lines depending on your RP and connection preferences (I rather like his "central hub" or "connected hubs" ideas for my own lines); and an old "Quality of Life" mod list that I decided to check out (highlighting corpses so I always know who needs looting? Sounds good to me. As does upping companion accuracy).

-->No workout, but Mom did finish painting the beanbag game boards, and had us all come out for a couple of rounds. I started out strong in both games, but ended up last thanks to Mom finding her groove in both (though Dad was the one to win the second one). Mom's now working out how to make better bags than the little ones filled with rocks we currently have -- she's worried they'll damage the boards. (Which is fair, they're heavy and pokey -- and one of the bags already got a hole in it. . .)

-->Did another round on "Secundus 2" Chapter 8 -- the gang has collected Doc, and they're currently trying to get through the weapons checkpoint. Which is complicated slightly by the fact that, uh, Richard has weapons built into his damn hand. Fortunately Strickland is going to show up just in time to help them get through, yay~ Because these guys need more Hill Valley citizens on their side, and the Marshall might as well be one of them!

-->Did some early drafting on replies on The Valice Multiverse this morning, and finished up the final queuing (plus some messaging with a friend) tonight.

And that's about it, right at the moment. Gonna clear out the stuff in the inbox, then head to bed. Tomorrow, gotta finish up the Thursday post and see about getting more queuing done for Victor Luvs Alice; catch up on the non-Fallout 4 videos sitting in the Watch Later; do something in Sims 4 (dunno yet if I'm gonna play Eric or work more on A-Maze-Ing Wonderland; we'll see how I feel); and get more done on "Londerland Bloodlines." Pretty typical Wednesday stuff! Good night, all!
