An Okay Friday
Oct. 10th, 2025 11:50 pmLike, the weather wasn't great -- kinda chilly, if sunny -- and dinner wasn't great either -- chicken wings that were extra salty-tasting because Mom put baking soda instead of baking powder on them at first and didn't manage to wash it all off. And I didn't quite get everything I hoped to get done, done, as you will see in the write-up below. But it wasn't really a bad day either, as will also be apparent in the write-up:
Work – Had a decent Friday at the office, I’m happy to report – I was in the front alone (my coworker had taken the day off), but that just meant I had more things to occupy my time and make the day go a little bit faster! Such as:
A) Completing the usual morning reports from the credit card site
B) Doing the GL (which wasn’t very big – mostly reversals)
C) Putting on some checks that came in the mail (one time gifts and pledge payments)
D) Putting on someone’s cash gift when another employee gave it to me (yes, people will just send us $20 bills for some reason – annoys me because there’s extra steps involved in posting those)
E) Going through the latest round of failed credit card transactions and seeing who needed to be contacted and who didn’t (sent out some e-mails and left a few voicemails in the afternoon)
F) And doing some roster maintenance that showed up late in the day (forwarded to me by my boss, mostly)
So yeah – kept busy, but not in a super stressful way. The best way to keep busy! And now I have three days off, hooray~ They’re going to be mostly miserable weather-wise, but still, hooray! :p
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – hopped back on the bike for the final time this week to finish off my trip through the Scott Pilgrim Vs The World special features! Specifically, I watched:
A) The final part of Chapter 2 of the “Making Of” featurette, which featured interesting things like showing off how they did the shift from Stephen Still’s house to Scott’s dream about being back at school while Scott was using the bathroom (it was a totally practical effect! Consisted of a lot of people shifting set pieces around while Michael Cera was pretending to whizz!); everyone talking about what a mad lad Edgar Wright is – upbeat, fun to be around, great director (I believe the director of cinematography said that Wright is exactly where he needs to be because he loves directing so much, unlike some other people he’s worked with); and everyone saying that while it got really hard near the end, with the long shoot wearing on everyone, at the end, people genuinely didn’t want to go because they were still having fun and had made friends with everyone and whatnot (aww). Good stuff!
B) And all of the music-themed featurette, which naturally focused on how they handled all of the music stuff in the film! Because, you know, the main character is in a band, and a lot of the action happens at various band venues. Notable tidbits here included Wright talking about which real-life bands helped write the songs for the in-universe ones (for example, Beck handled the songs for Sex Bomb-Omb, Scott’s band, while Metric wrote the song we hear from The Clash At Demonhead); the reveal that most of the actors had to learn how to play their instruments and sing as filming went on, as only Michael Cera (Scott) and Brie Larson (Envy Adams, Scott’s ex) had any experience (Michael could play guitar, and Brie had some pop star experience); and the actors showing off some of their music-related injuries from having to play so hard and so often in scenes like Sex Bomb-Omb versus the Katayanagi twins and their keyboard (Michael Cera and Scott Weber (Stephen Stills) got all sorts of blood blisters on their fingers). Also good stuff – the music in the film is fantastic, and it was nice to get a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together. :)
And that is it for Scott Pilgrim! Next week – I’m thinking Clue. Can’t go wrong with a good comedic murder mystery in the month of Halloween. :P
2. Continue editing “The Van Dort Vacancy”: Check – got another good page done on Chapter 1 tonight after Game Night, featuring:
A) Smiler reminding Alice that she’s not going to be alone in her new house – for one thing, the original owner isn’t going anywhere, even if he is dead; for another, they and Victor will be visiting regularly! Complete with a joke about how Victor would be over so often for his Whisper training that Alice would think Victor lived there too –
B) Prompting Victor to admit he wasn’t going to take Elder Gutknecht up on his offer. Causing poor Smiler’s brain to short-circuit because what? New best friend isn’t going to do something that makes him happy? O.o They promptly started asking why, pointing out how interested Victor seemed when Gutknecht first floated the idea, and how excited he’d seemed last Names (aka night) talking to one of the Advocates’ Whispers, Neil, leading into –
C) The first flashback scene of the chapter, showing Victor and Neil’s conversation, and Neil demonstrating the lightning-summoning powers of Tempest for him! And yes, Victor was indeed excited, especially when he pictured himself using such powers against the ghosts plaguing him. :D Back in the present, though, he insisted on playing down his reaction. Why? Well, we’ll get into that a little later...in the meantime, I left things off with Alice and Smiler not being convinced by his act, with Alice in particular noting that Victor seemed quite curious about how the ritual to hide Elder Gutknecht’s house worked when Gutknecht added them to the wards… Next time, we get into the second flashback scene, showing off that very moment, and perhaps into why Victor is rejecting Whisperhood when he clearly wants to pursue it. (Hint: It involves his sucky parents!)
3. Watch something on FreeTube/Invidious: No check – while I did want to at least continue catching up on OXBoxtra list videos if I could, Game Night ended up running long (two rounds of Scrabble, with the first taking ages as we all had shit letters and Dad kept setting out three-letter words, meaning it was hard to build out and around the board), meaning I really only had time to do my writing this evening. *sigh* This is why I prefer it when Game Night ends at 8:30 PM – at least I have a shot at watching something then! Meeeh...
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – nothing on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) for me tonight, but there was an ask over on Valice Multiverse! An anon making fun of one of my muses’ outfits, saying that “2001 called –
“and they said something happened to the World Trade Center!” O.o Yeah, uh, I wasn’t sure how to respond to that...so I had Cuddlepile!Smiler admit THEY weren’t sure how to respond to that either. *shrug* Write what you know, I suppose!
And there we have it, pretty much. And I should really get to bed so I can get some sleep before it gets too late. Cleaning Saturday tomorrow, meeeh -- it was going to be Decoration Saturday too, but sadly we're due a storm later this weekend and people have been cautioned to put away any decorations they have out due to high winds, so... *shrug* Other plans include playing either Fallout 4 or Baldur's Gate III and working on the respective playthrough docs, maybe watching something from Proxy on Invidious, and -- actually, that seems to be about it. *shrug* Fine by me. Night all!
