Happy 35th Anniversary BTTF!
Jul. 3rd, 2020 10:04 pmI'm sorry that it's in such a shitty year! Ah well, at least the 30th went off well back in 2015, and that was the REALLY big one as per the usual timelines of the movies. I didn't do a heck of a lot to celebrate -- busy with other stuff -- but I just took a bit of time to watch the original theatrical trailer for BTTF, and a scene comparison of Marty going back to the future -- the one moment that's repeated between all three films. It's pretty interesting to compare what got put in and left out of the climatic scene in each of the trilogy! :)
In other news:
-->Work was a bit stressful, but not as much as I feared. My supervisor was able to take care of a mailing project that had been left for us, so I could just look up checks, clear up things on the phone with people, do a very quick GL, and work on a tiny bit of the exceptions. Less than I was expecting to get done this Friday, but I'm not going to trade getting out early for it!
-->Played the beanbag game once I got home -- we each won a game! Mom took the first one with some really good throwing; I took the second thanks to some lucky shots in the hole and Dad messing up his last throw during his shoot; and then Dad buckled down and beat me and Mom pretty handily in the third game. :) Good times!
-->Played some Fallout 4 a bit later on -- determined that, yes, my "Vault-Tec Overhaul" mod was the reason I couldn't place the Overseer desk. Disabling it fixed that problem, and I continued a bit with the quests, fighting lots of mole rats and feral ghouls to gain control of the Vault-Tec workshops scattered around what should have been Vault 88. Saved once I'd activated two of them and headed over to Nexus Mods to see if anyone else had had the same problem I did with the mod.
They had.
And there was a fix posted for it on June 10th.
*facepalm* So, yeah, I can reactivate the mod and test it PROPERLY now, once I update it! I really wish that Nexus Mods would send you little notices that "hey, this mod you play with has been updated!" when you come visit. I've got a LIGHT mod list at the moment -- about seventeen active mods (though a couple don't actually appear in my load order), and nine more I want to load in right now (though two of those are patches for my One Big Quest Mod, "Tales of the Commonwealth"). What happens with people like my friend Squid on tumblr, who have HUNDREDS of mods for games like Skyrim? I guess I should just get into the habit of using Vortex to check for updates. . . I'll do that this weekend, as I work to get more mods into my "testing saves." Just a couple more bug fix and littler mods to add, then we start getting into the big "will need to use my earliest saves to properly look at them" mods. Eventually I will actually do my restart/"proper" Victor playthrough -- but I gotta make sure everything plays together nice first! (Though that reminds me -- gotta endorse a certain mod that makes some nice changes to the Strong Back perk that I very much like.)
-->Wrote some more on "Londerland Bloodlines" -- Alice had her chat with Doris, getting $50 to not report a rat infestation (in the mistaken belief she's working with the local health inspector) and Lily's purse after she explained she was looking for her on behalf of her boyfriend. Which has a bail bond for a "Rolf Toten" in it, so now it's off to Kilpatrick's! That'll be interesting. :P
-->YouTubery! Watched a few things throughout the afternoon and evening:
A) We start with some GrayStillPlays and:
1. Hey Mr. President, a mobile game about answering questions as a presidential candidate and seeing what comes of your responses and if you win the election. Given that the screen for choosing a candidate already had a typo, though. . .yeah, it was one of THOSE games. Gray thoroughly enjoyed himself picking every bad answer he possibly could, from telling little kids having trouble making friends that loneliness is our natural state, to informing the crowd "Bitch we got nukes" when asked about how he'd handle a locust plague. XD The latter may in fact go on a t-shirt in the future! :D Looking forward to it.
2. Break Me Totally, the Grand Return! More boards to open, after all – including Pinball which is FILLED with bouncy green balls that can ricochet zombie limbs all over the place. Or, if the rocket bike you used to enter the level gets stuck in a certain place, and your torso gets stuck on top of it, create another "infinite pain" situation. XD Gray got stuck like that TWICE, in fact – and the second time, he actually LEFT THE GAME for a while and came back to find himself STILL sliding up and down the bike! XD A much slower way to infinite points, but I guess it works! XD Also bomb and rocket turrets are a thing now. You can imagine how much THOSE improved his score. XD (Rockets more than bombs – they have more ammo and are homing. That poor zombie goes through so much. . .)
3. And while this one wasn't uploaded by Gray himself, I found in the comments of the above video a compilation of some of Gray's best lines and moments out-of-context. XD A couple I knew, but most I didn't – and I got a surprise when it showed a clip from a LEGO game he played that showed him ON CAMERA. He'd put himself in as the weatherman to make some jokes about meteor showers, but – I'm so used to him just being the voice behind the screen it was weird to see his face! O.o Also he rubbed shea butter on a cactus once. ...I may have to track down that video.
B) Then a quick break to catch up on the latest Atop The Fourth Wall – the final appearance of the Tandy Computer Whiz Kids! . . .Sort of. It's probably their final appearance on the show, but the actual comic reviewed is one from very early in their run – it came out the same year as their second comic. And, given it's a legitimate Superman comic book, they don't have a major role in the story – they're just ordinary kids, listening to Clark Kent (visiting to tell them about journalism and communications) tell them a story about Superman fighting an alien by the name of Cron who is trying to remake Earth because he doesn't like the way his "wife," Nutra (aka Mother Nature) designed the place to distract them from a raging thunderstorm that's knocked out the power. ...Comics are weird. It's not a great story, but it's far from the worst Superman-themed comic we've seen on the show. :p Also, contains a short side-story about "what if Kal-El landed near Gotham and was adopted by the Waynes, who never had a biological son, and thus became Bruce (Superman) Wayne?" Turns out – life isn't much different, except he works in a book store, averts crimes at the behest of Commissioner Gordon, and is dating Barbara Gordon. Apparently there's a different comic that tells the story better – I hope so!
C) And then it was onto a couple of Call Me Kevins! Including:
1. Phantom Covert Ops in VR (Oculus Quest in specific) – Kevin started out the video in camouflage to set the mood. XD But yeah, this is a stealth-based game where your character is tasked with infiltrating a covert para-military base of some sort – in a kayak. Yes, you spend the entire game in a kayak, paddling your way through the various waterways, disabling radio towers and dishes while trying to avoid the notice of the guards. If you're Kevin, you also get seen a lot, spray bullets into the guards, die once, and get a little too into figuring out how to go fast in your kayak. XD Very enjoyable, if only to see Kevin immediately shoot some guards upon being told to "hold your fire." No one tells KEVIN what to do, game! XD
2. At Your Service – "Ireland's answer to Gordon Ramsay," to quote Kevin himself. Yup, it's more Irish TV, inspired by the fact Ireland is (smartly) still in lockdown. And it's not REALLY like Ramsay's stuff – it's one of those renovation shows, done by a pair of brothers. The episode Kevin watched was on Loftus Hall, which is apparently a pretty haunted place in Ireland, and even has its own "encounter with the Devil" story (he stayed with the family that was living there and got caught out when one of the daughters saw his cloven hooves – and proceeded to yeet himself through the ceiling to get away). Kevin went through a number of ups and downs with the family – telling them to let go of their garden "glamping" ambitions, only to be sad when they did give it up because their first customers utterly trashed the tent, for example. The house itself looked cool, though, and Kevin expressed an interest in going at some point to check it out now that it's been livened up with a new reception and whatnot. :) I hope he does get to go at some point!
-->And that brings us to the present, where I'm reading some stuff on tumblr (having just caught up with my webcomics) and am getting ready to settle the Valice Multiverse queue for the night and answer comments on here. No word on the Friday Night Writing Thing yet -- we'll see what happens there, I guess. I'm okay either way, really, as I wouldn't mind doing something creative, but I'm also kinda tired (because it's been a week where I've been stressed out as hell), and -- yeah. *shrug*
Okay, time to do the thing on tumblr and Dreamwidth. Tomorrow -- no real plans beyond more beanbag game (if the weather cooperates), watching the latest QI, clearing out some of the Sims-themed videos in my Watch Later, and playing some Sims 4. Sounds good for a Saturday, right? Especially a holiday? :p Night all!
