crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)
Expectation: It's the last half-day Friday before Labor Day, it's bound to be quiet! And it'll be great to get out the door a bit earlier than normal -- I'll have lunch with my parents and get an early start on the long weekend!

Reality: Multiple calls for me regarding website issues (only one of which I was actually able to fix for the donor, though another I was at least able to give him a number to call to get some help), e-mails regarding tricky online transactions, and a long GL followed by the longest last hour ever as I tried to catch up on some roster maintenance at work; then I get home and my parents are finishing up fixing up the bookcase now that the TV is in the middle of it on its wall mount, which leads to a delayed lunch when Mom ends up staining one of the shelves and Dad I guess got his arm in it? I'm not entirely sure WHAT happened but apparently stain ended up getting lots of places it shouldn't and that naturally put Dad in a mood, which put Mom in a mood, and -- ugh. I hate to say it, but I think I would have been better off staying until 1:30 at work and just having lunch there.

Ah well -- we're past that bit now, and I have to say, things did improve around 3:00, because that is when I started playing Fallout 4. I had a new mod I wanted to try out that ended up requiring a long play session, which included:

-->Actually listening to the message that plays from a Settlement Recruitment Beacon -- oh my God it is SO AWKWARD. So totally Victor. XD

-->Fending off a super mutant attack on Sunshine Tidings with the help of a sharp-shooting settler (I wanted to give her a present after that, and ended up giving her a board I looted off one of the mutants as a melee weapon -- the guns they had were weaker than what she had on her)

-->Having to make my way over to Nahant VERY CAREFULLY to avoid being attacked by an Assaultron and a bunch of very annoying Gunners and Forged (died a couple of times, would not recommend)

-->FINDING MUTT IN NAHANT BY THE PARKING GARAGE! :D For those of you not in the know, there is a random event in the game where you can find a wounded mongrel, cure it with a Stimpack, and name it (the available names are Mutt, Sparky, and Buttface -- I chose the option that auto-sets her name as Mutt), and it'll be friendly and follow you around for a bit. I encountered her AGES ago at a Red Rocket near Lexington, I believe -- I got caught up in a fight soon afterward, and she vanished. I didn't expect to see her again! I was genuinely THRILLED to run into her again and made a hard save during the moment of our meeting. :D She followed me and Preston around the area a bit like a good girl. Seriously, if there is a mod out there that lets me officially adopt her, I WANT IT.

-->Locating the post office in Nahant and starting another one of the "Tales of the Commonwealth" quests (which -- that mod apparently had an update?? Vortex told me there were new files that I could use, which baffled me. I said yes, and my game hasn't exploded yet, buuut. . .) -- this one centering around a lady who is trying to create "T-mail" to stop her postman dad risking his life so often delivering letters. Apparently if you complete this, she'll regularly T-mail you stuff about other quests from the mod, and commentary on the regular quests. Sounds like fun! :) Just have to find her some Network Cards. . .

-->Finally finding Croup Manor, which is the place I was looking for, and clearing out all the ghouls in it to gain access to the workshop. Which was kind of a task and a half, given there were a) a lot of them b) some of them were really tough. Died twice, but managed in the end to take them all out with judicious use of mines and grenades. The mod I was testing expands the building area of this particular settlement so you can make use of some of the nearby waterfront for water purifiers and the like, which I promptly proceeded to do. It's a bit weird, as there's a red barrier where the build area is SUPPOSED to end that made me think it was glitching out at first, but nope -- you go past that and you just end up in Zorkaz's welded-on additional bit. :p So yeah, another mod successfully tested! Still got a couple of small mods to test out, and my big old weather mod. . .that's the problem with modding this game. You try to stay light and small to keep the game stable, but there's a LOT of good stuff out there regarding quests and what not. Also a lot of good small bugfixes for stuff that might otherwise drive you nuts.

Of course, doing all of that took QUITE a while, meaning my YouTube time ended up more limited than I initially expected. Ended up with only two videos under my belt:

A) Something I saw on tumblr to start – a goofy "secret Institute ending" video for Fallout 4 featuring a Gen1 and Gen2 synth singing about how they've managed to kill all the humans. XD Includes a binary solo in the middle!

B) And then it was Wyrd Sisters Podcast time yet again! This month's episode was Maskerade, the "Phantom of the Opera" send-up. Opinion was that it was a good book with lots of funny moments, but there were a few things that they side-eyed/wanted more from (like Christine, who ended up kind of falling into the "Sexy Lamp" trope, or some of the jokes about Agnes's weight). They also reminded me that this is a book that makes you feel very bad for Agnes, in that she has a real, amazing talent -- but given her figure and what's going on with opera these days, she's never going to be recognized for it. As one of the 'casters said, when she comes home and becomes a witch in the coven with Granny and Nanny, it's less "she's found where she's supposed to be" and more "it's kind of her only option at this point." (Nanny being smug about it doesn't help either, as I said in my comment.) Girl needs all the hugs. At least she gets to be a little more badass in the next "witches" book.

I also of course did my writing -- more on "Londerland Bloodlines," since it's Friday and all. Alice has wrapped things up with Arthur after looking up Muddy's profile on the Krimeputer and finding it wanting, and is currently trying to get into Gallery Noir. Chunk has stymied her first attempt -- I was GOING to have her try to send him to go party over at the Asylum, since I believe that's an option for certain clans, but the way the writing is going, it's looking like it'll make more sense for her to use Obfuscate and try to pickpocket his keys. Honestly, that's probably more in-character for her as well -- she's SUPPOSED to love the invisibility and end up a master of it, so having her use it a lot just makes sense. Looks like in-fic, Alice is doing a stealth run of Bloodlines. XD

And now, having caught up with webcomics and whatnot, it's time to get my Valice Multiverse queue sorted, and catch up on DW comments. Tomorrow -- well, it's a cleaning Saturday, so that's my morning taken care of. :p And Mom was talking about having five games of beanbag throwing instead of just three, since the weather's supposed to be good. But after all that, I'm planning on catching up on some Sims vids, and seeing if I can get into my own Sims 4 game as there has been a recent patch. Actually, let me go visit the MC Command Center page and see if there's an update. . . Night all!
