First Of The Year 2021
Jan. 1st, 2021 11:20 pmAnd me without a to-do list because I didn't get a chance to make one before we watched our movies. Though, honestly, that's a good thing, because -- as this sum-up of my day will show -- I don't know how well I would have done on it. . .
-->Watched The LEGO Batman Movie with my parents over lunch, since we didn’t get a chance to watch it with the other two last night (as it stands, we ended The Second Part after midnight). Remained deeply amusing – Will Arnett is seriously the best Batman ever. XD
-->Spent most of the REST of the day working on that damned 3-D Hogwarts puzzle – my parents had managed to finish the rest of the wall pieces and whatnot, so all that remained was to put it up and together!
. . .what a pain in the fucking ass. Seriously, these puzzles? Do NOT go together well. And it does not help in the slightest that the instructions are in black and white. We actually had one piece on back-to-front and couldn’t figure out for the longest time why it didn’t QUITE fit. My Mom was actually starting to TRIM things with scissors until I realized the printed side was supposed to face the other way. And then trying to get all the various towers and roofs to hold together while we wrestled in all the little tabs. . .see my previous comment about pains and asses. We DID it, in the end – Mom was taping bits of it to each other to try to make it hang together – but damn. I don’t like these 3-D puzzles much. >( I’m glad the next one is a flat one!
-->Played some Fallout 4 – a radstorm followed by a rainstorm meant that I spent most of the playsession raiding that one house on the outskirts of Concord, and exploring the river’s edge for stuff I could loot. Leveled up from cooking some of my custom foodstuffs, then – after a solid sleep and a poop in the port-a-potty – I took Victor into Concord proper!
Game crashed.
And continues to crash every time I try to get more than a few steps into the city. I’ve tried going in different directions, looping around the houses on the outside of the main road – nope. I think I AM getting a little farther when I take a less direct route, but not by much, and not for long. And given what a) Bethesda games are like in general and b) Fallout 4 is like in particular to mod. . . Though, actually, having given this some more thought, I might be able to avoid the whole “restart at that save in Vault 111 where most of my mods weren’t activated yet and activate them one by one to see which one prevents me from going into Concord” business. Because I had MOST of them activated when I did my second attempt at a playthrough with Victor, and THEN I made it into Concord no problem at all. Which means the likely culprit is a mod I downloaded right before starting THIS playthrough, which narrows it down to like five or six. . . Hmmm. Part of me suspects the culprit to be “Commonwealth Wilderness Overhaul,” but obviously I can’t be 100% sure. We’ll see what I can set up later!
-->Did some writing, though not on either of my regular projects – I decided to just indulge myself on the first of the month and wrote a quick-and-dirty version of the scene where Victor and Alice get the Silver Shroud costume from Hubris Comics for Kent Connolly, and Victor can’t resist playing dress up. XD Best of all, my version of the studio also has a Mistress of Mystery costume hidden away, which Alice finds and tries on – rendering Victor briefly speechless when he finds her in it. XD I haven’t decided at what point in their relationship they’re in when this happens, but I’m pretty sure it’s early days and Victor’s still kind of shy about expressing his feelings. At least verbally – there’s no mistaking his expression! Fortunately Alice finds it cute to see him so gobsmacked by her in a pretty dress. XD
-->On the YouTube Front:
A) Started with some adorable animal videos this morning:
1. One I’ve seen AGES ago (possibly back when it was first posted in 2016!) – a kitten at a pet store/adoption center escaping their pen and going into the pen of the very excited puppy next door :D Just over a minute, but it is seriously so sweet, especially with the puppy so eager to lick and cuddle the kitten~
2. A cat who’d recently given birth to kittens being introduced to a newborn puppy. Cat is confused at first, but happily welcomes puppy into the fold when they’re placed among the other kittens (other kittens, being crawled over, probably have opinions on this XD)
3. And on the flip side, a dog (named Toast) who was more or less adopted by a stray kitten who took to the “mama protector” role very readily indeed XD Seriously, it was so cute watching the dog take the kitten away from the pool and let her eat her food and all that. :)
B) Then onto an OXBox video – “7 Things That Will Definitely Happen in 2021 According to Videogames!” Yes, straight from those games that are apparently set in 2021, we know to expect things like motorcycle racing in green electric hamster balls, dream karate at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, and – two zombie apocalypses (one in the form of a microtransaction-riddled mobile game), one potential nanotech apocalypse, one potential bioweapons apocalypse (this one with free personal jetpacks), and two private defense companies teaming up against the USA and leading to a good chunk of Los Angeles becoming radioactive. ...Yay? (Seriously, can we have less doom-and-gloom games set in the current decade? It’s not helping.)
C) Then onto Call Me Kevin for a trio of vids!
1. The Forest, a survival game where you are a father looking for your son and trying to survive after a plane crash into a forest filled with cannibals and otherworldly horrors. Or, if you’re Kevin, you steal the dead stewardess’s dress, immediately whack up every turtle you see to save the heads as friends, take over a yacht on the nearby ocean (never mind it was clearly raided by cannibals), go exploring in dark caves and leap over weird body horror monsters, and set fires on rafts. XD Always a pleasure to see Kevin being his usual weird self in a situation where that could easily get him killed. And he’s suggesting it as a potential new series, which – yes please?
2. More GTA V Chaos Mod fun! :D Kevin ran a couple of missions (one with Trevor, blowing up an illegal meth lab, and one with Michael, doing yoga and having an epic drug trip) with the 30-second “random shit shall happen” timer, and let me tell you, it delivered. Mostly killer clowns. XD Also low gravity, flying cars, UFOs, backwards-driving NPCs, and constantly setting people on fire. Including during the yoga mission, leading to Michael flailing around on the floor trying to put himself out while Kevin laughed his ass off. XD It’s good stuff, and I sincerely hope he keeps doing it!
3. And a video where Kevin gave a short update on his life (his metabolism is no longer screwing him over it appears, yay); talked about 2020 and the lockdowns (crediting his YouTube channel and Twitch streams with keeping him sane – as sane as he gets XD); and just generally thanked his audience for sticking around, being one of the kinder fan communities on YouTube, and expressed his hope that he can keep doing this for all of us for years to come (awww). What a good start to 2021, video-wise. :) You’re an awesome dude, Kevin, and I’m glad I subscribed to you at last. Having you around was one of the ways I survived 2020, and I’m looking forward to another year with you. :)
-->And now here I am, having just caught up with webcomics (doubly so in a few cases, since I also didn't get a chance to do much of that last night), and catching up on this and some RP queuing stuff before doing a writing thing with a friend. Moving into the last weekend before I have to go back to work. :( And it's a cleaning Saturday too -- though I'd rather have that BEFORE going back than AFTER, admittedly. Anyway, let me set up a to-do list for tomorrow:
1. Clean my room, natch
2. Write something -- preferably more of "Londerland Bloodlines," but I will not kick myself if it's something else
3. Play The Sims 4, my Newcrest Adventures save
4. Catch up on my Subscriptions -- mainly GrayStillPlays and one Wyrd Sisters Podcast I have yet to listen to
5. Work on updating my rules and verses and stuff for my Valice Multiverse RP tumblr
6. Answer my latest PM from my FF.net friend
*nods* Reasonable list for a cleaning Saturday, I hope. Now to wrap things up for tonight! Hope your first day of 2021 was okay! Night all!
