Saturday The Thirteenth
Feb. 13th, 2021 11:12 pmI know such a title probably seems a little ominous, but it actually wasn't that bad a day, for the most part. My parents spent the majority of it prepping their room for the wallpaper and whatnot my Mom's ordered (mostly sanding stuff down, which apparently they ran into some early problems with making sure the dust didn't get everywhere), and I -- well, let's look at the handy to-do list, why don't we?
1. Clean my room, as per the usual schedule: Check! Even managed to get through it all a little earlier than usual, due to my parents doing said redecorating, meaning I was able to get all my dusting and Swiffering done before lunch! Vacuum afterwards, and I was good by 2:30ish! :)
2. Clear out the Watch Later and catch up again on Subscriptions (should be OXBox, Plumbella, James Turner, Kevin, Gray): Check! Got them all, go me. :)
A) Started with Plumbella and a video on a little game called Calico! It’s a life simulator that’s SUPPOSEDLY about running a cat cafe, but is actually about running around doing various tasks for all the other inhabitants of Star Island, making food via the medium of shrinking down and throwing giant foodstuffs in a bowl, kidnapping people’s pets on accident (Plumbella was just gathering all the animals for her cafe and hadn’t realized one of them was owned by someone whose good graces she needed to be in to unblock a mountain pass), and riding your newly-giant dog before trading for either a magnificent white husky or majestic white wolf, I wasn’t quite sure. Also it has a surprisingly detailed character creator (with better methods for picking a skintone than Sims 4), and the ability to “store” a cat on your head. XD It’s very very cute, and for anyone who likes that kind of game, I’m sure you’d find it enjoyable. :)
B) Then over to good old James Turner and the latest episode of “3 Brothers!” As usual, everything was chaos, with Candle in particular suffering low needs and being ignored in favor of his brothers. But, on the plus side, James actually did some Snowy Escape-related stuff! Mainly to get Aspiration Reward points to buy the “Brave” trait for the three so they’ll stop being terrified by their haunted house so much, but it still counts! Isaiah in particular blew through a lot of his aspiration – eating food at the Snow Festival (yes, despite being a vampire); eating food with chopsticks (fortunately for this one he just needed to take a bite); going sledding three times (over on the bunny slopes); buying and wearing a festival outfit (300 bucks! James was horrified); buying and popping Simmi capsules ($50 a pop, and some of them could be sold for more than that – James in fact lucked out with his very first being a gold one and thus worth a decent amount of money); and taking a loooong soak in the onsen (and ending up so relaxed it looked for a minute he wouldn’t get out). Brodie for his part did some rock-climbing, knocking off “get rock climbing skill to level 3” and “rock climb for three hours.” His focus is still largely on the paranormal, though, trying to make food to gift to the specters in the house and leveling up his Medium skill. He actually completed that by the end of the episode, so next time he should be ready to get a license from Guidry! He’s already gotten the guy’s coat. . . And even Candle was allowed to complete a school project, write another book, and get a job. Not that it helped him, because he’s actually due to age up in like a day from the end of the episode. . . At least you got the “Education for All” scholarship, buddy? XD
C) Then, this evening, we proceeded onto OXBox and “7 Fan Mods That Totally Transformed The Game” – a celebration of the power of the community to do incredible things to games they love! From using the classic Doom engine to faithfully recreate the entirety of the first Castlevania quest as a first person shooter (“Castlevania Simon’s Destiny”), to remaking the original Thief games in Doom 3 (“The Dark Mod”), to creating a world where you have to fight Nazis using resurrected dinosaurs in the Half-Life 2 engine (“Dinosaur D-Day” – yes, this is real), fans have done some pretty amazing things with mods! . . .Also Cry of Fear was here. XD Sorry, OXBox, but after watching Helloween play it years ago and being way too amused by his rants on it, I’m not going to be able to take that one seriously. Though it is a good total conversion, I’ll give it that.
D) Over to Call Me Kevin, we had Valheim, a game all about being a Viking! Specifically, you are a dead Viking, who has to make himself a home in the afterlife and defeat a series of bosses to work your way up to Valhalla! Jim the Viking is – getting off to a bit of a rocky start. XD Kevin did find a nice spot to settle down in right away, with a nice little shack to live in and plenty of boars and deer to murder once he started making himself decent weapons. But then he summoned the boss of the area, Eikthyr – a massive, lightning-slinging deer – and. . .well, it took Jim dying and being resurrected five times to finally take him down with his crude bow and little flint spear. XD He did manage it in the end, though! It looks like a fun game – I like this sort of thing, with building yourself a little home and crafting stuff interspersed with taking out the local wildlife. XD I hope to see more of Jim’s adventures in the tenth world!
E) And finally, we had more GrayStillPlays, and more Happy Wheels! More yeetus bottle flips – one with a sword throw at the bottom if you wanted a change of pace, one with so many things orbiting “ML YEET” that Gray was honestly shocked that he got it. More bottle runs – including one THAT HAD A LOOP IN IT! :D Someone might have taken my suggestion! (The loop wasn’t actually made out of bottles, which was my intention, but I’ll take it nonetheless.) More spike falls – including a super long rainbow one that Gray actually slapped an epilepsy warning on! (The colors started really flashing the farther down you went, you see.) And a glass wall run where the glass basically just came for you even before you broke it, and that the creator set up to be impossible to move the final hunks of glass out of your way. . .but through the power of giblet “conveyor belts,” Gray managed to get his armless guy up and over the walls and down the surprise spike fall at the end. DETERMINATION! Gray has it.
He also has a polearm, by the way. Raycon sponsored him again, and I guess he’s just going with “hit everything with medieval weapons” now for his product placements. Ooookay then. XD
3. Work some more on "Londerland Bloodlines": Check! Alice has awoken on stage in the Nocturne Theater – though to her, it looks like Dreary Lane from the Deluded Depths. She’s currently just trying to figure out what the hell is going on, who all these people are, and if any of it is even happening because she knows what she’s like, poor girl. It is all happening, Alice – fortunately, from this point on, you start having better luck than you did in the first five pages!
4. Play some more Fallout 4 and see how much more of the "Sanctuary" quest I can do: Aaand this is where it all went wrong. No check, because – well – I start the game, I load a save, game goes to a loading screen –
Game crashes.
Now, I did update one mod, and install two others (both quality-of-life mods I decided I wanted – one that removes some corpses at a certain location you can build up as a settlement after you visit it once; the other puts a ferry onto the peninsula by the Castle that you can use as a “fast travel” door to Spectacle Island once you repair it (otherwise, you and any provisioners you send there have to swim, which seems – inconvenient)) – but the crashes persisted even after I reverted the change and disabled the mods. I was never able to load ANY of my recent saves.
I – think I might be done with trying to play this game. Not with watching Let’s Plays of it or anything – I enjoy Jon’s various series too much, and my “Fallout of Darkness” AU isn’t going anywhere by this point. But the stress of trying to figure out why my personal copy of it keeps getting fucked is getting to me, and I just. . .when I start crying because ONCE AGAIN I can’t actually do anything with the game I was just starting to get back into, and the possibility of another fucking restart is looming over me. . .feels like it’s time to walk away. Thanks for reinforcing my decision to NEVER give you another fucking cent, Bethesda.
Yeaaaaaah, as you can see, that last one was what kind of made this Saturday the Thirteenth. *deep sigh* I've been kind of actively avoiding stuff related to the game ever since to avoid another crying fit. I imagine I should be okay by tomorrow -- I hope I am, I still want to see Jon's latest "YOLO" episode -- but. . .yeah. I can't keep putting the energy into this. At least not right at the moment.
In other news:
-->Did get everything I wanted to get done, done last night, including the FF.net PM! Yay being productive~
-->Had a nice breakfast -- no fresh bananas for a smoothie, and it was a bit nippy for that anyway, so I ended up having bran flakes with chocolate granola (as suggested by my Mom) and milk. Gotta say, pretty tasty!
-->Looks like MC Command Center might get a new release sometime this decade! (Yeah, I know, I should just be grateful he's updating the mod at all, I'm just a bit cranky and impatient.) Hopefully the new version will be released so I can start playing the game again during my upcoming three-day weekend.
-->Currently doing a little light RPing on Valice Multiverse -- answered two asks, deleted two others because they were kinda shitty
-->Other plans for the evening involve answering DW comments and maybe making another Spotify playlist -- I keep meaning to get the one for my "I AM Gonna Write You A Love Song" AU sorted. . .
And that's about it, really. Now, time to make my plans for Valicetine Day:
1. Watch some Corpse Bride clips on YouTube, along with Kevin and Jon's FO4 YOLO episode
2. Play some Alice: Madness Returns
3. Either come up with an idea for a gift fic for my tumblr friend whose birthday is coming up, or work on something generally Valicey
4. Get in a workout
Feels more than reasonable to do stuff with my OTP's media on the arguably most romantic day of the year. :) (And hey, if I need a game to replace Fallout 4, I haven't played A:MR in literal years at this point. Why not?)
Okay, let's get started on that comment thing. Night all!
