Running Late Again
May. 19th, 2021 11:31 pmFinishing up the last of my to-do list took longer than anticipated -- here, a couple of bullet points on my day before the list:
-->Work was relatively quiet, with me fixing a few more issues in the can and getting someone to acknowledge the credit card thing, so that was all right
-->More beanbag game today when I got home -- 2-2-3 for me, with Dad winning all three games (the last with his OFF HANDS). Mom and I really have to pick up the pace here.
-->Weather remains very summery; I have officially turned on the ceiling fan for cooling purposes.
Okay, and to-do list:
1. Get in a workout: Check – another 25 on the bike, and another adventure with “Nuka-World Level One Survival!” Finished up Episode 14 with Minnie lugging her extremely heavy new Nuka-Nuke Launcher and Nuka-Nukes (the nukes themselves weigh 12 each! Minnie needed some Gazelle Steak to boost her carry weight to carry it all) back to base, where Jon regarded them with glee before confirming what I’d already known – time to take out a Nukalurk Queen! And probably some other Nukalurks, given Minnie had three of the nukes. . .
And so Episode 15 started with Minnie running through a radstorm to get back to the World of Refreshment, where she climbed up onto the roof to start taking out her enemies! After avoiding a turret, she scanned the general area, then climbed further up via all the utility stairs and catwalks to take out the two Nukalurk Kings she knew were hiding among the various rooms up top (taking some Psychobuff to be sure to take them down in one sneak attack). With them gone, she began working on her plan of attack for the ones down below, using her sniper rifle to try and get them to come past the turret –
And then it turned out that they instinctively go for the far stairs once you start shooting at them to find where you are. And that there was another Nukalurk King with them. And Nukalurks are faster than we give them credit for. Minnie did her best, and managed to kill the King with her Slugger, but the other Nukalurks took her down pretty effectively. Whoops.
Okay, with that in mind (and a fortunately nearby save thanks to a mattress in the room the second Nukalurk King was hiding in), Minnie started trying a few different methods to take care of the swarm of ‘lurks coming for her ass, including throwing grenades and trying to bamboozle them by standing on slightly-higher pieces of scenery. Neither worked as well as she’d hoped, leading to another death – and, after that, a Minnie, running away from a crowd of Nukalurks with a broken arm, going “screw this” and launching nuclear quantum death upon them. Twice, in fact, as they weren’t perfectly grouped the first time. Overkill? Probably, but Minnie gave no fucks by this point.
Of course, all this nonsense led to the Queen waking up – and Jon was horrified to discover that Minnie didn’t have a crit in hand to guaranteed victory against her. Fortunately, there was one Nukalurk still in the pool below with its monarch, which Jon was able to lure up and beat with his Slugger. Unfortunately, it proved a little too hard to beat in a few VATS shots, and Minnie was forced to use Psycho Jet and batter it in real time to kill it before it killed her, meaning she was just shy of her needed crit. Back to fortunately, Jon remembered that turret he avoided earlier, and sent her to smack it to death and get the crit! A few minutes to get a clear line of sight and a shot at the head later, and the Nukalurk Queen –
Was down to half health. Yup, all that, and the Nuka-Nuke didn’t finish her off even with a crit. I left it on Jon panicking a little, as that was his last one and now he’s going to have to rely on his snipers. At least, I ASSUME he’s relying on his snipers. . .would kind of be funny if Minnie went in with the baseball bat, admittedly. . .
2. Edit some more on “Londerland Bloodlines”: No check, but that’s because I substituted something else – editing a section of Chapter 19 of “Forgetting You”. The reason was I was rereading the section of Victor discovering Bumby’s journal and discovering what Bumby wrote about him in particular a while back –
And I thought, “I’m – not really happy with how this goes down anymore. I want to edit it.”
And I had the inspiration tonight, so I did. It’s mostly to address a criticism I got later on in the story, where someone pointed out that Bumby being the only bisexual on screen, and a depraved one at that, led to some uncomfortable moments. At the time, I wasn’t sure how to fix “Forgetting You” itself – I could only apologize, ask for tips, and try to do better in future installments. But now I’ve got a scene which I feels makes a lot more sense with Victor as I characterize him now, and helps address that comment a bit. I hope it comes off all right – I tried to emphasize that this is Victor seeing Bumby as being creepy for being Bumby, not because Bumby likes guys!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subscriptions: Check – though a surprisingly easy day there because Kevin skipped an uploading, meaning it was just Gray in the Subs! So I went ahead and pulled something from the WL too –
A) Started off with Linkara and the latest AT4W – “Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4!” AKA the New 52 doing its take on Duela Dent, the Joker’s Daughter! . . .it’s horrible. It is made of so much edge there is nothing actually substantial left. It uses mental illness, self harm, and violence to animals as proof it’s “adult” and “serious.” It features Duela having grown up in an abusive family (and not actually related to the Joker) going into the sewers beneath Gotham, finding the Joker’s face (yes, his ACTUAL FACE – apparently it got cut off at one point in these comics?), and WEARING IT AS A MASK while she conquers in a matter of moments a tribe of misogynists by convincing the women not to do their chores and burn all the men with a crescent moon shape so they have “Joker smiles.” It’s awful and Linkara told it to go to hell, as he rightly should. Yeesh, we get some real winners on this show sometimes. . .
B) Fortunately, GrayStillPlays was fucking around with Minecraft again, so I had a good palate cleanser. Today was buffing Piglins to ridiculous extremes – they turn everything around them into gold blocks, breathe blackstone to destroy their enemies, give mad amounts of loot, and of course have more heads than normal because Gray never met a multi-headed creature he didn’t like. AND he left all of his other upgrades in too, so the final fight was actually a bunch of Piglins, an Iron Golem, at least one Villager, and a couple of Dogs all against the Ender Dragon. . .and then Gray flipped it into Creative mode and spawned ALL THE ENEMIES to cause as much chaos as possible before rocket-launchering his way out of there. Basically he’s just out to break the game at this point. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – readjusted the VictorLuvsAlice queue and updated it to include a post on my story edit to “Forgetting You.” Was hoping to also fit in “Song Saturday,” but – well, I’m already running late here, so no dice. That’ll have to wait until tomorrow!
And now I have to quickly answer my DW comment and head to bed, as I am on the computer much later than I expected to be. Two more days to get through! Night all!
