Not Totally On-Point Sunday
Jun. 13th, 2021 11:23 pmThough, again, I'd argue I got the MOST important stuff done on my to-do list --
1. See about writing the first draft of the gift fic: Check! Did this before lunch – came up with something involving her RP character from the game she likes (MediEvil 2’s Princess Kiya, a resurrected mummy – my friend’s version works as a mortician during the same time my Catch-Us-Verse Vigilante!Victor and Alice are operating), talking about different afterlives with Catch-Us Victor and Alice. It felt appropriate, especially with the thread we’re doing now (their first meeting), and I think she’ll enjoy it. :)
2. Watch the OXBox in the Watch Later and Jon's next FO4 YOLO episode; keep up with YouTube Subs if possible: Two-thirds-ish check – I got two of the OX videos in the WL, and one Subs video (out of two; Kevin didn’t upload today) along with the YOLO ep – a distracted morning rereading old fanfic coupled with Sims taking more time than expected (I lose track of time fiddling with my builds) means I didn’t have time for everything again. At least I made a dent!
A) Caught up with my OXtra and OXBox lists:
I. OXtra, “7 Surprisingly Harrowing Deaths for Cute Characters” – when games yank our heartstrings by killing the cutest thing in the room. From watching poor Missile the Pom get shot by an assassin whom he just wanted to say hello to in Ghost Trick, to Goofy shoving Mickey out of the way of a falling rock in Kingdom Hearts II and taking the blow himself, to your adorable ape characters in Ancestors: The Human Odyssey dying in a variety of awful ways, games know how to make us cry. The worst one on the list though is the first one – Cutie, a toy elephant that is RIPPED APART by two parents-turned-dolls who do it EXPLICITLY TO MAKE THEIR DAUGHTER (already upset because they’re divorcing) CRY. Because, apparently, her tears made them turn into dolls, so they think that will make them turn back. Everyone in the comments rightfully ROASTS those assholes. (Yes, I’m sure the game is about getting them to reconcile and learn the errors of their ways, but fuck them for that. Your kid deserves better.)
II. OXBox, “7 Bad Endings That Were Undeniably Cooler: Commenter Edition” – more “bad endings” that have more “cool points” than the good ones the game wants people to get. From an evil Spidey ruling New York with Black Cat and a bunch of other symbiote monsters in Spider-Man Web of Shadows, to becoming a bloodthirsty “Shura” with a flaming arm and a terrifying sword (and skipping most of the incredibly hard game) in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, to somehow turning from a cheating slub to RULER OF HELL if you commit to Catherine the succubus in Catherine – sometimes the bad ending just seems so much cooler. . .
B) After supper, I got my one Subs video – James Turner looking at a new house-building video from the in-development Paralives! You know, that game that a lot of Simmers seem to be watching pretty eagerly as they’re hoping it’ll blow Sims 4 out of the water? James hadn’t done anything on it before, but a nice house build seemed like a good place to start! He’s impressed with a number of features on display – curved walls, easy building anywhere you like, the ability to resize lots of objects (like stretch a bed into a double bed, or resize a painting frame to fit any picture you want) and says he’d love to build in it – but he’s hoping that they’ve got a good “snap-to-grid” system (as placing items freeform can be – problematic, sometimes) and he really wants to see how the Parafolk actually INTERACT with these objects (like how they handle a dining chair that’s been placed off-kilter instead of straight-in at the table). He’s cautiously optimistic, let’s say – certainly willing to play it when it comes out, though! I’m with you, James – I’ll be happy enough to play it, but let me see how it all actually works first!
C) And then, of course, we had our usual Sunday ender – Jon’s Fallout 4 YOLO episode! Finalley made it into Nuka-World last part, and this part – ooooh, this part. This part consisted of two things, basically:
I. Finalley getting the basic admin for Nuka-World out of the way – settling into her new digs (and dumping a bunch of stuff into her Overboss storage chest), meeting all the gang bosses (Jon complaining that they aren’t really properly distinguished from each other – also apparently they give missions?? I mean, that doesn’t really mean MUCH to me, if I ever do this DLC I’ll be doing “Open Season” and killing these assholes, but interesting to know?), meeting all the market people (and stealing any goods that they’d foolishly left out – also learning that there is a broken quest where you can get Maddox, the chem guy, Bloodworm meat and he’ll make a special batch of Calmex for you – but you can’t actually ASK him for the job, apparently, you can just gather up the meat and the game will give you the option to hand it to him), and meeting Sierra (might as well get those goodies right?). Simple, easy-peasy, gets the very first quest out of the way, we’re all good.
II. Finalley getting jumpscared in Dry Rock Gulch. For Jon, in his hubris, decided to go there first as he thought the Bloodworms, while ANNOYING, might not be that bad to fight.
Finalley lost 40 to 60 hit points to the bastards (I didn’t see all the numbers). What happened was, Jon STARTED OUT good – keeping to the high ground, looping around the walls (. . .the wrong way at first, admittedly, but), carefully sniping off every and all enemies around Finalley, and clearing out the all-important backstage area for that SCAV! magazine that boosts Strength and Endurance the less caps you have (which shouldn’t be boosting the latter but apparently the person who designed his “YOLO” mod forgot about this?). He even discovered that throwing around grenades will make the Bloodworms pop out from where they’re hiding! But when he started actually trying to do the missions in the park to clear it. . .
Yeah. Turns out the game may actually spawn MORE of the blasted things while you’re trying to do things like find Giddyup Buttercups and deliver drinks. Jon got Bloodworms up in his face quite a few times, and a few chomps were taken. Hell, there was a moment where Finalley, out of AP, had to resort to Psychojet to fend off an attack by Bloodworms AND various Ants – and ended up killing poor One-Eyed Ike the Protectron (the one you have the ‘shooting contest’ with) in the bargain. Fortunately his safe password can be looted off the remains, leading Jon to think he should have just killed all the robots to begin with. *shakehead* Basically none of this was a fun time for Jon or Finalley! She didn’t even get any good Legendaries out of it – there was a half-decent chest piece that Jon left behind because it wasn’t better than what she was wearing, a crappy chest piece, and a crappy Enraging MEAT HOOK. Jon is not impressed with his Legendaries curse, game. XD
For all that, though, Finalley WAS able to kill all her enemies, get through Mad Mulligan’s Mine, defeat the Queen Bloodworm, and secure the park for the Operators (just like in Minnie’s playthrough, he’s giving the short shrift to the melee-focused Disciples, as they don’t suit his character’s build). And she even got back home without any trouble beyond a brief radstorm, which was easily handled by slapping on her Hazmat suit. Jon’s thinking Kiddie Kingdom for next time – we’ll see how THAT works out for them! Poor Finalley – as I said in my comment, I hope this DLC isn’t HER finale!
3. Play Sims 4 and do some renovations on the Family Fun Center build I did a while back: Check! I originally just went into Newcrest to edit the original one that I built there – but after finding a LOT of empty plates I couldn’t delete, along with a unserved covered meal sitting directly behind the bar that I couldn’t even MOVE, I thought “okay, this isn’t going to work,” went into my building save, and instead edited the one I’d previously saved to the Gallery. This one STILL had dirty dishes in it (along with two potions and a cupcake), but they were all moveable at least, so I just put them in the kitchen. My original plan was to just separate the restaurant and bowling/skating areas with a temporary fence and lower the latter slightly (because every bowling alley I’ve been in has at least one step down into the actual bowling area), but I ended up making the whole build slightly bigger (after doing the step down meant no one could stand in front of the arcade machine), adding a fourth bowling lane, and redoing the bowling seating areas (mindful of the fact Sims have to go through them to actually bowl). The new version isn’t TOO different from the old, but I like having the step, and I like what I did with the new seating, sooo. . . Both it (under “Optimist’s Bowl N Skate 2”) and the Ice Cream Conery are now up on the Gallery too! Origin ID is AliceNVictor – you can also download a couple different versions of Victor and Alice, along with some of my other Sims (Marty and Doc should be up there, along with Eric Embers).
4. Get in a workout: Check! Actually hopped on the treadmill today for something different (been meaning to take a walk for a while) and watched a bunch of stuff from PleasantSims, a Simmer who currently focuses on Sims 2 and Sims 3, but did some stuff for Sims 4 back in the day before giving up on the game. I watched the end of her video on modded attractiveness systems (talked about that a couple of days ago – she loves Wonderful Whims), then a video where she went over how she updated the base game families in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs in one of her save files to make sure everyone had the appropriate relationships with each other as indicated by their bios (like making sure the BFF family really did have some crushes going on, or actually making Johnny Zest related to the Landgraabs) and updating some Sims to better match past portrayals (giving Bella and Cassandra Goth back their darker skintones, and COMPLETELY visually making over the Calientes – including RENAMING their mother back to her original name from Sims 2). Ended partway through a video where she was going over how she’d done a different save file to make Willow Creek into “Pleasantview 25 years later” – we have stuff like Dustin Broke married to Angela Pleasant with two kids, Nina Caliente with a newly-adult daughter Gia (who is the secret child of Don Lothario), Don and Cassandra Goth having divorced – basically if you liked the whole storyline of Sims 2’s first neighborhood, you’d probably like that save file! :)
5. Prep tumblr queues for the week: Half-check – I got the two asks on Valice Multiverse into that queue, but I never got to anything for VictorLuvsAlice. Have to do it in the morning!
Additionally:
-->Hot and sunny today – perfect for another five rounds of beanbags! I can’t remember the EXACT scores this time around – I got distracted after we put the game away with getting cookies – but I know Mom won the first game, Dad won the third and fourth games, and I won the second and fifth games. Pretty sure Dad came in second the most often too. So yeah, just like yesterday – everybody won one, and I won two! (Might have won the first if Mom hadn’t had a really good last throw. . .but on the other hand, I came back in the second from a start of one, so no complaints!)
Yeaah, this weekend hasn't been about great time management, it seems. Ah well -- on the plus side, I ended up taking this upcoming Friday off, so I'll have more chances to catch up on stuff I've missed this weekend! And like I said, the most important stuff (namely getting that gift fic drafted) got done, so can't complain too much. :p I just wish I could focus a bit more in the mornings. . .eh, what can you do. Let's answer my final comment and head to bed. Night all!
