Stormy Fucking Saturday
Jul. 17th, 2021 11:35 pmSeriously -- til about 2 o'clock, it was all right. I did some writing, listened to some music while changing my sheets, noodled around on the web, all of that. Then, not long after 2, Mom came in and tried to log into Dad's computer (Dad currently being out and about buying her some extra trim for the new closet doors she's working on for their room). I was confused, wondering what the hell's going on --
And then the lights went out.
Only for about thirty seconds, but still. Turns out Mom'd heard a bit of thunder and was coming in to turn Dad's computer off, and was so intent on figuring out the password she didn't tell ME to shut mine down. Fortunately my computer seems to be okay after the surprise shutdown, but I was still rather miffed. And I was even more annoyed at the fact that it basically then stormed all fucking afternoon. You could hear rumbles of thunder around even when it was SUNNY for a short while! I was able to turn my computer back on and check it around 4:30, but turned it off again around 5 as round two came in. It wasn't until after supper and a shower that I was able to get back on for good -- aka around 8 o'clock. I basically had to spend the day playing games, looking through old pictures, and doing a little light and awkward web browsing on my iPad Mini and hoping it held its charge. Oh, and because we had a few bursts of torrential rain, we also found ANOTHER leak in the damn cellar. *sigh* Fun.
So yeah, today's to-do list is looking mighty sad:
1. Write some more on "Learn To Love Again": Check! Started Chapter 2, with Alice at her usual hot drinks haunt, Joe’s Beans (I’d call it a “coffee haunt,” but she ordered a hot chocolate) between shifts at the Royal Opera House and Houndsditch. To her shock, Victor has walked in for a drink himself – and to her further shock, he’s actually come up to her table. Mostly because he wants to apologize again for bowling her over last night, and for being too forward with his comment about her eyes. Don’t worry, Victor, Alice isn’t mad – in fact, she’s just about to ask you to sit down with her. . .
2. Watch the rest of the Plumbella in my Watch Later and keep up with YouTube Subs: Half check – obviously any and all hope of watching ANYTHING from my Watch Later was killed by us having thunderstorms all frigging afternoon, but it calmed down enough this evening that I was able to watch the stuff in my Subs –
A) Okay, this popped up in my Recommendeds and it ended up being the only other thing I watched because it was BEFORE the thunderstorms – a clip from one of RT’s streams where Kevin ended up telling him a story about him and his Dad, where he got a second modem by pretending to be his father on the phone to the internet people, hid it inside a computer case, and managed to keep it secret up until the point where his father noticed a light still on in the case when he shut the lights out in the room and got Kevin to open it. As he admitted, Dadvin was mad (as he wanted Kevin to do something more productive than all these little scams to do YouTube stuff more easily) but also kind of impressed. XD
B) Then this evening we had the latest episode of James Turner’s Cottage Living Early Access LP! Chaz is doing well – he’s still working his way through his golden eggs and bacon, and James has discovered a nifty little side effect that meal. Namely, it allows Chaz to do a “golden pulse” and INSTA-EVOLVE HIS PLANTS TO “PERFECT” QUALITY. As you might imagine, James was all over that! Couldn’t be done on the mega-sized crops, sadly, but everything else got zapped! Chaz also ended taking his cow, Cowlene, to the cow and milk fair to be judged, along with a bottle of her milk. The Milk only netted a participation trophy, but Cowlene got second place in the fair! . . .out of two cows. Ouch. :( But James made the best of it. Most of the rest of the episode was spent reorganizing the lot and updating the barn – there are now two animal sheds along the side of the lot, with the chicken coop next to the cow shed, and the crops in front of the llama shed. Chaz also now has a couch and a proper kitchen, yay Chaz. And he’s harvested his first perfectly quality oversized crop, and has both a giant eggplant and a giant lettuce to put into the NEXT Finchwick Fair, which is for oversized veggies. :D And we ended the episode with him getting a llama, Lenny! So that’ll be fun – we hope, anyway.
C) Then it was time for Call Me Kevin and – PowerWash Simulator. Yes, this is a real thing, where you hose down various items, houses, what have you. Kevin did some of the opening missions – your own cleaning van, someone’s muddy back garden, and a dirt-encrusted bike! He seemed to have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the game, in that he felt it oddly satisfying to go through all the mucky stuff and hit it with various streams of water until they were clean, but it was also so tedious he just wanted to leave and never come back. And indeed, he noped so hard out of the dirty playground mission he ended up on Mars. XD Honestly, I think I agree with him – nice to see the shiny, not sure worth the effort! Though I think he and I are alone, given how this thing has “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam. . . *shrug* Hey, if people are enjoying it!
D) And finally we had GrayStillPlays and Stickman Dismount Hero Fly! Yes, remember when he did all those games that were basically “here is a stick figure, here is a variety of vehicles, here is an obstacle course full of pain, inflict that pain on the figure” games? They’re baaaack – and with super-heroes now! Gray tormented Spidey, Captain America, The Hulk, and Iron Man in courses full of hot steam, saw blades (both stationary and swinging) and bouncy balls, smashing and dismembering them in the search for infinite points. This game was a little smarter about this sort of thing than some of the ones he’s played in the past, not afraid to count him out even if part of his body was still ricocheting off the scenery somewhere, but he made some good attempts – including most of Captain America bouncing around somewhere off-screen and getting him like 10,000 points a second. He ended the video with Spider-Man with his head stuck in part of his “love seat” car, bouncing off a saw blade until the game crashed. Gray’s manic laughter was hilarious. XD Aaaah, I kind of missed these. Good to see them return to the channel!
3. Play Sims 4 and work some more on that house shell I made in my building save: No check because of the weather (it started storming right before I would have actually gone into the game).
4. Get in a workout: No check because of the weather (you think I was going to go downstairs and work out and get all sweaty when I didn't know when I would be able to shower?).
Best part? It's supposed to be rainy and stormy tomorrow too! Cooler, at least, but still -- freaking miserable. *grumbles* I really don't like how shitty the weather has been as we've moved farther along into summer. Feels like we got a handful of nice days in June, and since then it's been all either super-hot and super-humid, or chilly and rainy, or storming. It gets on your nerves in the worst way. I got shit I wanna do!
*sigh* Well, nothing for it now but to try and keep up with tumblr stuff and answer my DW comment. I'm not even going to bother making a proper to-do list for tomorrow, since there's a non-zero chance I won't be able to fulfill it. The only thing that HAS to happen is doing the second draft of the gift fic I owe for this upcoming Thursday. Hopefully there will be enough of a break in this awful weather to allow for that. *sigh x2* Night all.
