Hectic Monday
Nov. 15th, 2021 11:20 pmAs you shall see when you look at my to-do list:
Work – Busy day, though that’s only to be expected after a long weekend – I definitely could have skipped the “going at a crawl” commute that made me late, though! Fortunately turns out we’d ALL gotten caught in that traffic, so me walking in late wasn’t especially notable. Also had some more credit card weirdness, and the call that was supposed to happen today was canceled because our contact was sick. Also one of my go-to radio stations is now playing nothing but Christmas music. *grumbles* Not exactly the most relaxing day, but at least I can say I did get pretty well caught up on everything.
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and today I chose to visit The Spiffing Brit, as one of his videos was in my recommendeds and I figured “why not?” This one was him playing Game Dev Tycoon, one of those “games about making a game,” where he chose to be an alternate universe EA, releasing things like “Wii Death Sports” and the “Skyroom” series. XD Also FIFA, but only the first one performed well as people did not like that his strategy for that one was basically releasing the same game over and over again. The idea was to minimize effort and maximize profit – making games as cheap as possible and always, ALWAYS choosing to release DLC afterwards. Generally for better profits than the game itself made. XD It was a fun little ride, and it’s always amusing to listen to someone rag on the worst practices of EA, Bethesda, and the like.
2. Edit some more on “Londerland Bloodlines”: Check – Lily and E have had their reunion, and the thin-bloods, after Alice told them what happened to her, are planning to move on (in part because Copper is certain any regular vampires who hear about this are going to blame it all on their presence). And I’m dropping a few hints for future quests while I’m at it – namely, Julius mentioning his writer friend “Dave” as a reason he can’t leave Santa Monica yet. . .as it stands though, there’s just a bit more wrap-up to do there, and then it’s time for Alice & Mercurio: Detectives as we move onto the Stanley Gimble quest!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subscriptions: Check – standard two-in, two-out, bonus tonight –
A) No James again tonight, so it was to Plumbella for our Simming needs – and she did another build with the Simsation Nation random build generator! For her ongoing “I’m playing through all the Sims 4 packs in order” LP-ish thing – she just threw together a house out of random styled rooms for her original Self-Sim previously, because the first packs were going out to work and going on vacation, but now that SimJesse will be closer to home, it’s time to build a better place! After a few clicks to get away from things like “rainbow castles,” she got a gray duplex in Del Sol Valley, with the “Penny Pixes” lot trait, for one Sim, with a budget of 13K – but it MUST have a game room, home theater, and basketball court! Hmmm. Plumbella struggled for a little bit (especially with money – she eventually decided that, since her Sim would only be living in one half of the duplex, she was going to refund herself the cost of the building materials for the other half), and she ended up having to claim that the “game room” and “home theater” was covered by her deciding to put a TV with a games console in the living area, but she ended up with something dull, but livable! Even got a tiny basketball court out the back. XD It was a lot of fun watching her turn the place into something usable, and makes me want to do some random building myself (as per the last time too). :p Maybe next time I’m in the mood after I finish my current house. . .
B) Then it was over to Call Me Kevin for a short discussion on why the release of The GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition was such a clusterfuck. Yeah, apparently he had some thoughts on the whole mess, and it served as actually a pretty good educational video on what happened with the launch and what went wrong with the games (mainly extremely poor porting (with full developer notes on the Switch version), bad character models, LOADS of bugs both hilarious (Sweet CONSTANTLY getting rammed by cars in cutscenes, launching yourself with physics fun) and annoying (invisible bits of scenery, the ability to fall out of the map) – and creepy (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RIDE THE QUAD IN FIRST PERSON), and the licensed music thing where the developers left the tracks whose licenses had expired in but just used scripts to keep them from playing). Kevin fully admitted that he’d been having fun with the remastered trilogy despite all this bullshit, but he’s super disappointed in Rockstar for putting out a subpar product, then going radio silent after it became apparent they’d have to pull the product, and then apparently getting nasty with the modding community and pulling the older versions of the games so you’d have to buy the full-priced remasters. Ugh. Add Rockstar to the same “we sell shitty stuff and refuse to properly fix it” list with EA and Bethesda, I suppose! At least we got a good Kevin video out of it. . .
C) Then it was over to GrayStillPlays for more Happy Wheels (which now looks like it has more production values than Rockstar in its entirety)! Case in point, the bottle flip which had a Neil Armstrong section (land a bottle on the rocket! Note: You may end up eating the rocket), a watermelon right above Jesus, and the ability to rain soccer balls from above and destroy the flipper (not good when you’re trying to get the Beard of Yeetsus); the rope swing through a thumbnail hole absolutely SURROUNDED with spikes (Gray got it third try!); the shockingly-long rainbow heart board (as Gray put it, the heart lived longer than most fairground fish); the obstacle course board that had spinning bottles, glass panes, and TOILETS for Gray to smash (plus a secret win area where you had to beat the homing mines to the coins – or just sacrifice your son to them); the pogo jump across a mountain where the most deadly dangers were stalactites (or were they stalagmites? Gray had to go Google Search it); the Pachinko board from hell (basically a ball fall with rockets, spikes, and rotating axes, with multiple places to end up – plus a secret win on the side accessed by carefully jumping a bunch of gaps while avoiding the spike ceiling, then somehow surviving the harpoon and crossbows there waiting for you – it took Gray so many attempts to get EITHER win); the pointy, wiggly anaconda (Gray cracked up when he first saw the little pointy thing – only for it to prove to be a flailer of death that he immediately ran away from); and the trip with Karen to the grocery store (with multiple wins of yeet looking to pulverize her – Gray got her through both paths, though!). Good times, as always. :D
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: N/A, since I already got this week’s Wednesday post sorted earlier – which is good, because it was a busy day on the tumblr dashboard and it took me a while to get through it! On the other hand, though, I DID answer my latest FF.net PM (the damn site’s stopped sending me e-mails again), so that’s something, right?
So not a great start to the week, but at least the afternoon/evening was good. We'll see how tomorrow goes! And the next day, and the day after that. . .night all!
