Somewhat Less Rushed Tuesday
Dec. 21st, 2021 11:31 pmThough part of that is me just not getting to a few things. . . You'll see as per the Standard Update Form:
Work – Okay, but a bit anxiety-inducing for me – we had lunch brought in from a pizza place in one of the conference rooms (I got a spinach, pepperoni, olive, and cheese calzone that was so big that I cut it in half and have the other half waiting for me in the breakroom fridge), and later did a little send-off for someone who worked across the hall, which was a little more human “contact” than I wanted. (I wore my mask when I could, but obviously I can’t wear it while I’m EATING. . .) Not to mention when I went to the toilet and, upon flushing, the damn thing wouldn’t STOP flushing. . .but the day was mostly quiet other than that, and I managed to clear up a lot of duplicates and deceased, so – okay then! Also got an Amazon gift card from my boss as a Christmas present, and some candy and a moisturizer from one of my coworkers. Glad Mom and I got some gift cards for them!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, and onto the next Oxventure, “Stop Hammer Time!” The guild has gone from high society to low, having stumbled across the town of Bum. . .ble in their travels, a place that is so run down that the town hall is basically rubble, the tavern hasn’t a lick of furniture (though, given the semi-recent “Bad Chair Day,” this is probably a good thing), and basically everyone is living in squalor and sadness. The only thing in the town that is still in good repair is the crypt of the famous builder Ethelridge in the center of the square. The nominated spokesman of the town asked politely if the guild might be able to help them, as perhaps the crypt might contain something to aid them in rebuilding Bumble to its former glory. Corazon was all for leaving, but Dob insisted that they at least have a look, and so the gang converged on the crypt. Egbert (just barely, thanks to a bad roll) cracked the stone door with his hammer, only to find a wall behind it – but Dob, working off an inscription Prudence and Merilwen discovered about having the “courage to mend” used “Mending” to put the door back together. And indeed, Johnny rewarded him by having the door open normally once it was fixed, revealing a grand tomb with a sarcophagus inside, with a stone carving of what was probably Ethelridge holding a massive sledgehammer. Corazon pried all the light-giving crystals out of the floor, then – after Prudence had determined the hammer was WAY magical – carefully lifted it off the sarcophagus via magic hand. Dob was the first to actually touch it, though –
And thus, technically HE became the boss of the sixty-strong skeleton army that then emerged from the ground, telling him that in life they served Ethelridge, and in death they serve the one who holds the hammer. Dob happily introduced them to his friends, then led them out in a literal conga-line to start rebuilding the town! The citizens were understandably freaked out at first, but the sight of skeletons congaing around to gather tools is – not the most frightening one in existence, especially when it takes six hours, so they all calmed down. XD Dob gave Prudence five to play with (she immediately had them carry her around while she had a drink), turned four into a little skeleton band, and then had the rest start work on the first project on the townspeople’s hastily-written list – the town hall! Which, admittedly, was done to PERFECTION, resulting in a hall that made the spokesperson weep tears of joy. The only problem?
The skeletons used the stone from the orphanage to rebuild the place. Whoops. Dob took ownership for that mess, admitting that he hadn’t been specific enough in his instructions, and I left off with him and the others trying to find a less-problematic source of new stone for the buildings (fortunately there is a quarry outside of town, it seems). This one I have DEFINITELY seen on the list videos, and I already know how delightfully it’s going to go wrong. . . XD
2. Continue working on final edits on Chapter 3 of “Londerland Bloodlines: Santa Monica’s Vale Of Tears”: Check – Alice has gotten inside the hotel, investigated the first floor, fallen into the basement through the stairs, got the power back on, and made it back to the lobby! Still got about eleven pages to go, though – there’s a good chance I’ll be posting this Friday, not Thursday. But it IS sort of meant to be a Christmas treat, so going up on Christmas Eve DOES seem appropriate. . .
3. Keep up with YouTube Subscriptions and the OXmas Challenges: Only a half-check today – between a longer OXtra challenge today, me needing to take a moment after work to refill my phone’s minutes, me taking a lot of time working on the above final edits for LB: SMVoT, and there being THREE Subs videos (James Turner uploaded, in a shocking turn of events), I never actually made it to the Subs. Though, to be fair, I’m not sure if I can actually watch the Kevin video from today anyway – it’s FNAF-related, and those damn animatronics ALWAYS freak me out. *sigh* Looks like I’ll be playing catch-up my first few days off. . .but for now, let’s look at the OXmas for the day –
A) Day Nine of the OXBox Xmas challenges, and we had Jane with the “Microsoft Flight Simulator Vegas Vacation For The Holidays” Challenge! Jane had to pilot a plane to Las Vegas and land it ON the Strip (you know, the famous road of casinos). And she had to do so SAFELY – no crash landings allowed! Kindly, though, she was allowed to start at McCarren International airport IN Las Vegas and just get to the Strip (very nearby), rather than worrying about a whole flight, and she was allowed three attempts. Jane set her Cessna’s flight plan and got to it!
And, despite some dodgy flying, she did it! :) Even did a full circle of the main Strip to see where she wanted to land – and where the game had stuck in a bunch of procedurally-generated trees for some reason. O.o But she found a good spot, killed her engine, wobbled her way over some walkways and whatnot, and landed safely – half in a procedurally-generated tree. After some discussion, with Jane pointing out that the plane clearly hadn’t CRASHED into the tree, it was agreed that she could have a Christmas point – though Mike DID want to see her try again for a cleaner landing. Jane agreed, took the Cessna up again –
And managed to crash into one of the casinos, clipping through the building facade and ending up on her nose. XD Whoops. At least she already claimed her point beforehand!
B) Day Four of the OXtra Xmas challenges, and Santa assigned Luke and Ellen a game of “Deathloop Tag!” Each player takes a turn as the main character Colt, and a turn as the invading Julianna in Deathloop multiplayer in the Updaam map (the one with the “wolves” party). Julianna’s goal is to kill Colt, Colt’s goal is to avoid or possibly even kill her. The winner is whoever’s run as Colt survives the longest against the other’s run as Julianna. We started with Luke-as-Colt first – who spent most of the level scrambling around like a loon to try and avoid Ellen because he accidentally alerted all the “NCPs,” as he called them. XD And then got killed repeatedly by said NPCs and their robots, taking his run down at a mere 5 minutes and 22 seconds (with only one sniper kill from Ellen herself!). XD Poor Luke. . .from there we switched to Ellen-as-Colt, who tried to do a chain-link death (with the power that lets you chain people together, so what happens to one happens to all) –
And failed MISERABLY, getting everyone’s attention and having to flee desperately from angry NPCs before Luke even got his Julianna legs, dying for the first time at a mere 54 seconds! But she rallied magnificently and managed to elude the increasingly-confused Luke, who started shooting NPCs in frustration before remembering “oh wait, COLT can’t disguise himself as other people.” XD And then died to the NPCs. Again. However, he did so at 4 minutes and 41 seconds. I thought for sure Luke was going to call a win on a technicality – but no, he was willing to give the point to Ellen because he was a scrub who kept getting killed by NPCs. Ellen, magnanimously, let him have another go at killing her as Julianna just to get his pride back.
And – he did get his pride back! Ellen managed to keep ahead of him for a good long while (even scoring some shots from a rooftop), but with Luke NOT panic-murdering NPCs, he was able to avoid having the Eternalists turn on HIM and eventually stumble into killing Ellen the required three times – the third by fortunately just popping out in front of her as she tried to heal up. XD Sadly for Luke, she PROPERLY beat his survival time this round at 8 minutes and 40 seconds, so the Christmas point was still hers. Ah well – hopefully tomorrow will be a game Luke is a little better at! XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – made sure to get my Wednesday Chill Save update for Victor Luvs Alice completely sorted BEFORE starting on my YouTubery of the night. (Which, again, probably contributed to me only watching the Christmas Challenges. . .) And a quiet night on Valice Multiverse, with only two ask replies, whew.
Yeah -- stupid COVID anxiety. I've got my shots and my booster, but -- ugh. *sigh* At least everything important got done, including the editing and the queues! And I've only got one more day to get through at work. . .which, fingers crossed, may be a short one and let me catch up on those missed Subs! We'll see -- night all!
