More Cold And More Wind Wednesday
Jan. 8th, 2025 11:53 pmThe cold snap continues with high winds and chilly temps -- I am very glad that the most I have to do is go to my car and then into my office/my house at the beginning and end of each day! And that I have a new big thick scarf to cover my neck... Anyway, here is your write-up of my day --
Work – Another quiet day at work (mostly; all my coworkers were back in and Talky Coworker was feeling especially chatty today) – I took a couple of calls following up on the messages I left about the letter yesterday; I finished off going through the returned mail; I did a bunch of write-offs; and I resumed the roster maintenance for this one particular parish. *shrug* Nothing too exciting!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another night with Tiny Town silliness with “The last Sim in the Tiny Town Challenge! - Part 13” by James Turner! Yes, the final remaining sibling, Silas, finally got his chance to shine in an episode, with his love of Boho style, the color yellow, and photography! Important events that happened during the first half-hour-ish of the episode included –
A) James selling all the produce Silas stole from Scarlett’s garden and putting the resultant cash in the community vault – which necessitated Silas breaking into the vault because it was previously locked by Silas, and getting sleeping-gassed on his first attempt XD
B) Silas joining the Freelance Fashion Photographer career because it’s one of the best ways to make money as a photographer and taking pictures of his half-siblings to complete his first gig (the pictures of Krystoff standing in the water around Sonny’s island didn’t make the cut, but the pictures of Camillo in his PJs did)
C) Silas also taking loads of pictures of his half-siblings and a couple of other Sims (like Sara down at the pub) just to boost his photography skill and have photos to sell for cash and fame, while James tried to determine what the hell determined who did and didn’t show up in the picker for “Take Photo Of…” (notably, he wasn’t able to take a very funny picture of Pablo because the guy just did not show up in the picker); notably, he got a few FLIRTY photos at the pub with the OTHER Silas in this LP, the townie who often shows up to buy stuff from Krystoff and Pablo when they do the selling wall/table thing (I’m kinda hoping they DO become an item, that would be quite funny)
D) Silas being invited out for a club party at the Island Bluffs in Windenburg by Vivian and taking loads of pictures of everyone – AND of Emily, the local sea monster in the seas around the town! Though James was actually kind of annoyed that at that point Silas was good enough to get good pictures of the monster, as he wanted traditionally blurry crappy ones for the lolz. XD Silas also embraced the Mischief lifestyle (being “Dastardly” and a “Kleptomaniac” and all), working on the Chief of Mischief aspiration to the annoyance of his half-siblings but the amusement of his nephew Reuben
E) Silas finally getting a photo accepted for his freelancing gig – only to discover he needed a computer to submit the photo properly and get the cash. Fortunately there was all that produce money lying around, so James had him grab it and invest it into buying a nice desk and computer set-up for the town hall! Turns out having all that “illegal” produce in his inventory was good after all!
So yeah, he’s been keeping busy, and making a decent start on his career! He’s even managed to become a Notable Newcomer because James was like “I am DEFINITELY abusing fame for free stuff here.” XD I left it with Silas having traveled to San Myshuno to meet some Sims there for his next gig (taking pictures of people in their Everyday wear) – we’ll see how this progresses and if Silas gets enough money for something other than a tent tomorrow!
2. Continue working on “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – got another page sorted on Chapter 4 today, with Alice examining the final resting place of Sean Milton, finding on the second level of the building a car radio – which she declined to take – and a keycard to the Luckee Star Motel – which she very much did take. Only lead she currently has to where Muddy has gone, after all! And now, on the advice of Cheshire, she’s heading over to the Last Round to inform Jack of what went down the other night. Gotta keep the other Kindred of LA abreast of this nonsense with the serial killer, after all!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – GrayStillPlays returned tonight with “Gwagon vs Water Speedbumps in GTA 5!” No, I don’t know what a Gwagon is – looks like some sort of SUV? *shrug* Anyway, today’s challenge saw Gray having to figure out which of a selection of both legitimate cars (in what I presume to be the Gwagon mode) and meme vehicles could make it to the end of a watery speedbump course, including the appetizer of satisfying speedbumps with first wider, then deeper gaps between them; the timed buoy speedbump course which showed that buoys have absolutely BIZARRE hitboxes (apparently, when the water goes over them, they get invisibly taller! Or, I guess wider, since these were on their side? I think?); the “leaping over increasingly tall and sharp speedbumps into valleys of water while being pelted with jetskis” course; and the final timed tightrope course featuring both growing speedbumps and “one side only” speedbumps in an attempt to mess up Gray. Of the vehicles, the lawnmower actually did fairly respectably, despite having trouble even REACHING the challenge (it got pretty far through the first course, only flooding out once the gaps got wide); the weird Hummer Centipede did even better, getting all the way to the Sharp Jetski Mountains before dying; and the Liberator monster truck did great, making it through the first three courses with ease before being presented with its nemesis in the form of the tightrope. But the ultimate winner was a bright pink Jeep SUV thing with an awesome liftkit, a fantastic suspension and – crucially – the ability to jump the walls that came up at the end of the timed challenges. XD Though it’s worth noting that Gray went back and redid the final tightrope challenge so he could win it legit too. Probably because he feared what Alex and his team would say if he just straight-up cheated his win. XD I think they’re gonna start including way more invisible walls now, Gray! :p
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: check – just Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) to worry about today, and I got my Song Saturday sorted – “Can You Hear It?” by Aviators! A band (though I think it’s actually just one guy, like Owl City) that does a lot of long songs inspired by other properties (including a lot of video game stuff – they did a song on Baldur’s Gate III that is a banger as well). “Can You Hear It?” is inspired by Lovecraft and his stories (I believe specifically “The Rats In The Walls”), and my brain’s glommed onto it for some reason (possibly because I’ve been rereading some of my old “Lovecraft Jazz AU” posts, possibly because I’ve been thinking about eldritch Smilers while working on some new posts for the blog), so I figured I might as well share it! Got nothing better in the pipe.
Yeah, nothing particularly exciting going on here -- just me indulging old obsessions. :P And now I need to head to bed and avoid the howling chill outside -- night all!
