Got some good, productive stuff done, I am happy to report :) --
Tumblr: Was very productive on one tumblr, not so much on the other –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Two very important things happened over here today:
A) This morning, before lunch, I finished off drafting the post on the Valicer In The Dark pets today – cleaning up all the sections and clarifying/rewriting a few bits (especially the section for Dogmeat, since that also describes the “When Freedom Calls”-based score); adding a few explanatory links here and there; getting the tags all sorted; and – coming up with yet another story idea right at the end, of the pets going on an adventure to find the missing trio one day and helping save them from a situation. *shakehead* I swear, even if wanted to, I couldn’t stop myself from coming up with more Valicer In The Dark stories. XD Anyway, that got added to the list in the VITD master doc, so you can see more about it in the “Writing” section below. But yes, that post is done, and will probably be added to next week’s queue! Nice. :)
B) And tonight, after supper, I posted the link to the first chapter of “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded!” :D Which I will also talk more about in the “Writing” section below! XD But yeah, tumblr knows about the existence of my latest story – we’ll see what they do about it!
The Valice Multiverse – Nothing going on over here tonight, so I went ahead and threw the link to “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded” into the queue, because why the hell not. *shrug* We’ll see if activity picks up tomorrow!
Sims 4: Back to the Polyheart OT3 House today, as promised – and I decided that today, I would focus my efforts on the one room in the house that was completely unfinished, instead of just partially unfinished: the M-shaped room at the top of the heart, right above Smiler’s room and between Victor and Alice’s rooms! You may recall that my original plan for this room was to turn it into a big bathroom, with a shower/tub combo and all that, only to be stymied by the room’s weird shape and the conflict between where I wanted the door to be versus where the tub needed to be so Sims could actually interact with it – hell, being unable to figure that out was the whole reason I switched gears and instead created that little triangle-shaped en-suite for the trio on the side of their bedroom. But I came back to it today, and I’m pleased to say that I have figured out how to turn it into a usable bathroom! :D Which, yes, makes three bathrooms in a house for three people...but as someone who has had to wait for her parents to vacate the bathroom when she’s really had to pee more than once, I say, the more bathrooms the better. XD Anyway, here’s what I got done in there today –
A) I did indeed move the door from the hallway on the right (with the entrances to the kitchen and Victor’s room) to the one on the left (with the entrances to the bedroom, Smiler’s room, and Alice’s room) – given that my intent for this room is for it to be more of a “family” bathroom, I felt it made the most sense to put it in the hallway that also linked to the bedroom. Like, this is a bathroom you’re more likely to use when you’re either preparing to get up for the day or go to sleep at night, so you’d want to make sure you can get to it from the bedroom quickly, and vice-versa. Sorry that the only bathroom on your side of the house is the public bathroom that you access through the living room, Victor, but I think you’ll live. XD
B) I also got rid of the shower-tub combo to go with a fancy corner tub instead! Mostly because, after trying one out in the room, I decided it made use of the available space better than the rectangular shower-tub – and besides, the gang already has a shower in their en-suite. This bigger bathroom can be for anyone who wants to lounge around for a longer soak. :p I eventually settled on the fancy Get Famous corner tub, tucked into the lower right-hand corner (right under the spike of the M)…
C) And then, after seeing what swatches were available on said tub (and which ones I actually liked), I decided on the color scheme for the room! My original idea was just to do the same greenish tiles that I used in both the other bathrooms – but after finding that my chosen tub didn’t have a swatch that went with that, I instead briefly flirted with making the room purpley-pink (since there was a very bold purple-and-black swatch for the tub that I kinda liked) –
But then was like “eh, does that really fit the rest of the house? I should try to keep to the trio’s color scheme” and filtered my tile options by red, yellow, and blue. Which just so happened to lead me back to the Snowy Escape “onsen” tiles that I’d used in the en-suite bathroom, and their dark blue swatch with the mountain pattern on it. I was like “YES” and promptly painted that all over the upper part of the “M” (the two diagonal walls and middle connecting bit), then put the matching swatch of the base game “Pixel Perfect” half-tile around the rest of the room. For flooring, I went with the base game “Cool As A Cucumber” dark blue floor tiles, since those had some marbling in them that looked like light reflecting off rippling water, which I thought was cool. :) With that sorted, I decided that if the walls and floor were blue, then the furnishings should be yellow and red –
Aaaand then I discovered there were like no good red options for toilets (beyond the Vampires high-tank toilet, but that HAS to be pushed up against a wall to look right, and I wanted my toilet facing diagonally out of the left upper “spike” of the M), so I decided, “Okay, fine – plumbing and counters yellow, accent pieces red.” XD It was what was easiest!
D) And with that sorted, I started furnishing the room! Here’s what’s in there so far:
I. The yellow Get Famous corner tub I mentioned before
II. The same Snowy Escape toilet as in the other bathrooms, only in the “yellow stripe around the bowl” color swatch, tucked into the left upper spike of the M by the door
III. The same Jungle Adventures Selvadoradan counters with Snowy Escape sink as in the other bathrooms, only with counters in the “light brown wood with soft yellow countertop” swatch and the sink in the matching “white with a yellow stripe around the faucets” swatch as the toilet
IV. The base game bathroom cabinet item next to the sink by the door, in the yellow swatch – comes with a blue tissue box and a red doodad in it, so everyone’s colors are represented, yay~
V. The red swatch of the base game “The Source” mirror with side cabinets – I thought that would be great for a bathroom because you could imagine the side cabinets storing medicine and stuff, though I did have to use “bb.moveobjects_on” to slide it up the wall slightly – it was clipping into the sink a bit otherwise
VI. The red swatch of the base game ceramic soap dispenser – also MOOed into place because I had to place it very precisely so it evenly clipped into the side of the sink and didn’t look weird (just like I did in the public bathroom)
VII. The red swatch of the Parenthood hand towel on the wall between the mirror and the bathroom cabinet
VIII. The yellow overhand swatch of the base game toilet roll next to the toilet (that one has no red swatches, so I had to go with yellow)
IX. A pair of yellow and red base game bathrobes on the diagonal wall facing the tub, since we already have a blue one in the en-suite – I guess Alice and Smiler use this bathroom more often :p
X. The same white base game “lightbox” windows I used in the other bathrooms, covered by the same shades – though this time, in the red swatch to match the other “red accents”
XI. The same Growing Together set of towels-on-pegs I used in the en-suite bathroom on the wall by the tub, in a slightly different swatch – the towels on this one are a dark blue space-themed one, a white-blue-pink-orange-and-yellow-striped one, and the yellow sunflowers one. So I guess Smiler has the same towel while Alice and Victor have switched up theirs XD
XII. The same base game wall-mounted “bathtub caddy” item on the wall over the tub, once again in a slightly different swatch (light red shelves with yellow shampoo – I would have preferred a darker red, but none was available, and I didn’t want to do the yellow swatch)
XIII. A big red base game circle rug under the tub, sticking out so the gang have a soft, warm place to step after bathing – and then I put a sized-down version of it under the towels so they’d have a less-chilly place to stand while toweling off too (very important!)
XIV. A slightly-sized-down version of the Dine Out wall art depicting a big old branch of a cherry blossom tree in bloom, in the red swatch – I like it, but I’m not 100% sure it should be in this room? It’s on the wall for now, over the tub and beside the sink – I’ll see if I still like it when I next come back to this house
XV. And I slapped up a light switch by the door. XD Because I remembered “Oh hey, I was putting those in each room for realism purposes, I should start doing that again.” Have to check to see if the public bathroom has one next time I play!
E) And as a bonus, while trying to find a decent plant to stick in the narrow corner above the tub in the spike of the M, I came across some adorable Tiny Living tiny wall-hanging plants, in pots whose color schemes matched those of the succulent pots with the faces from Discover University that I put in the living room! So I ended up hanging those on the wall beside the armchair in the “reading corner,” next to the bookcase. :) Nice little extra touch for that room!
And yeah, that’s where I left things! I still need to clutter up the new bathroom some more, figure out what else I can put on the walls and whatnot, but at least now every room in this dang house has wallpaper and flooring and looks like a functional room! Maybe I’ll actually be able to finish up this build soon...though I guess there’s really no hurry, given that I’m still waiting for that damn “occult eyes won’t actually stay on Sims” bug to be fixed before I can start playing with my actual Sims again. *sigh* I just want to be able to start my Tiny Town with Smiler like I planned...
Writing: Welp, you kind of already know what happened here thanks to what I said in the Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) section of “Tumblr,” above. XD But, to go into a little more detail –
A) I added to the VITD master doc that story idea I mentioned where the Three Pillars’ pets – Sooty the raven, Guide the cat, Dogmeat the dog, Dougie the dragon, and Us the intellect devourer – realize that the trio have been missing longer than usual and go on an adventure to find them! I’m picturing a situation where the trio have been locked up by some enemies – maybe they’re in jail at a Bluecoat station, or the Beornen have put them in a cage somewhere – and haven’t yet been able to free themselves. Meaning the pets have to distract the guards and steal the keys so their humans can get out and come home. I’m not sure of all the details yet, though I’m pretty sure I’d make Us the viewpoint character simply because they’re the only one of the group that has true human-level intelligence and thus would be easiest to write. :p We’ll see what happens!
B) And I posted the first chapter of “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded! :D Did the final editing pass in two chunks – one right before my shower and supper, one right after – then slapped it up on AO3! Well, I say “slapped” – I had to spend some time getting my tags right, then moving the “end of work” notes to the end of the CHAPTER, where they were SUPPOSED to go, then editing the notes to include a link I’d missed to the “Blades Supplements” section of the official BITD website, then editing them again after realizing I’d forgotten to explain where I got the title of the story (it’s a joke on a line of Gale’s from Baldur’s Gate III, where he jokingly says “a tadpole shared is a tadpole halved” while offering to join your party). But it’s up, and should now be in good condition. :p Hope people enjoy it!
YouTube: Unfortunately, the downside of getting the first chapter of “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded” posted today is that I had no time to get to any of the videos in my Watch Later. :( I DID catch up on everything in my Subs, though, so that’s something –
A) First up, we had the pair of Josh Way movie reviews that I couldn’t get to yesterday –
I. “The Last Showgirl Movie Review” – Josh giving his thoughts on this vehicle for Pamela Anderson, about a woman who has worked all her life as a showgirl, only for the show she’s in to close, meaning she’s got some broken dreams to deal with. Josh’s Trademark Complicated Thoughts boiled down to “this is a good movie, but it’s a very bleak one – like, everyone acquits themselves very well, but this is a Vegas movie where there is no fun allowed because of the subject matter, so just know that going in. Also the camera work is a bit weird, and you can TELL this is a movie that wants prestige and awards and will be sad if it doesn’t get them.” So yeah – definitely does not sound like my kind of movie, but if you can stomach all that, then you can give it a shot.
II. “One of Them Days Movie Review” – Josh giving his thoughts on this buddy comedy starring Kiki Palmer and Sza as two best friends who need to make their rent and get into all sorts of shenanigans trying to get the money! No Complicated Thoughts for this one – Josh basically just said, “it’s formulaic and it runs out of steam a bit in the third act, but the leads are great, it’s very funny, and if you want a straight-up silly comedy, this is the movie for you.” So yeah, if you’re in the mood for simple, silly fun, maybe check this out!
B) And second, we had the latest from GrayStillPlays – “Upgrading Ramp Cars in GTA 5!” This was one of those ranked challenge torture boards, where every course is worth a point, and the car with the most points at the end is the winner! Today’s challengers were the Classic Ramp Car, the World’s Most Fragile Ramp Car, the Sprunk Sign Ramp Car, the Weird Batman-esque Ramp Car, and the Yeeter Ramp Dump Truck. Seriously, they took one of their patented Yeeter hydraulic press blocks and slapped it onto the front of a dump truck. XD And the challenges? Well, they were to get through a line of giant party buses and out the other side in under nine seconds; to launch a “magnetized” car up to smack away a balloon attached to the wall blocking the rest of the course before it teleported back onto its spot; to plow through a line of trailers and out the other side in under twenty seconds; to ramp up to a high platform and hit it JUST RIGHT to then send the firetruck atop it flying off; to clear away all of Santa’s leftover dark matter presents from the roadway; and finally to get a beached whale through a bunch of weebmills and back into the ocean on the target. You know, just standard ramp car stuff. XD Gray put them all through their paces, and while the Sprunk Sign Ramp car got a point for taking out the trailers, and the World’s Most Fragile Ramp Car got two for speeding through the party buses and doing the firetruck ramp-into-a-ramping –
The fucking Yeeter Ramp Dump Truck won with three. Because it was the only one that could launch the car into the balloon, clear all the presents (and take out Santa in the process), and move the whale back into the water. Like, wow – it’s almost never the stupidest car that wins. I guess they were very proud of that monstrosity and had to give it its time in the sun! XD Don’t blame them, it was VERY fun.
Other: Got my card for my mom’s birthday sorted – printed it out at work yesterday, but I couldn’t get it to print on the cardstock, so I had to tape the paper and the cardstock together to make a proper card. Hopefully she likes it!
And that is that! And now I should really head to bed before it gets too late. Tomorrow, plans include working on more draft stuff on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler); playing Fallout 4 and getting Victor to Diamond City to sell all the things and meet up with Bobbi; updating the FO4 Playthrough Progression appropriately; getting a workout; and keeping up with Gray and Jon's usual Sunday Two. Hopefully all achievable goals -- night all!
