crossover_chick: Doc looking very sarcastically over his shoulder (BTTF: in a sarcastic mood)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
Yeah, the weather was absolutely miserable today -- pouring rain in the morning, clouds for much of the afternoon, then a bit of spitting snow on my drive home. Nothing major or ready to accumulate, fortunately, just -- annoying. *grumbles* This does not feel like a good start to spring. Fortunately it's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on...before cooling back down for the weekend, of course. Meeeh. I really wish we lived in a place with better weather -- it feels like the nice days get fewer and fewer around here as the years go on...

Anyway -- enough bitching about that. Here's the daily write-up for you all:

Work – Well, I am pleased to announce that the start of this workweek was at least somewhat less frustrating than the end of the last one, if only because we got fewer phone calls today. Like, yeah, we still had people calling in to check on gifts and whatnot, but the volume of calls was much lower, and for that I am grateful. *nods* My first day back at work was thus spent:

A) Doing the GL for pretty much the entire morning (as there was a lot of stuff posted on Friday that needed to be sorted through)

B) Going through my e-mails and answering a question from our database tech person about a duplicate gift in one of the remaining credit card batches that she was trying to post...and having to loop in the credit card people because the duplicate gift in question was a Capital Campaign gift in a regular Appeal batch. Which isn’t supposed to happen. *rolls eyes*

C) Returning a message from someone who left a voicemail asking if we’d received his gift after closing on Friday – I let him know we did have it (while noting that he seemed to have some duplicates on the system, which might explain why he got another ask)

D) Answering a few phone calls from people looking for gifts, or checking what they did last year so they could decide what to do for this year’s gift, or setting up a pledge with me over the phone (not a credit card one, interestingly – my coworker got all those ones!)

E) Going through some of the problem items I found at the end of last week – fixing a parish credit on a gift, determining that one gift was indeed posted to the wrong person (same common name for our area), and determining that another was posted to the RIGHT person, she just seemed to have remarried or something (I updated her name accordingly)

F) Doing some reversals to fix some of the issues I’d noted (like the gift being on the wrong person)

G) And e-mailing the credit card people AGAIN when we got another error on someone’s credit card gift before my coworker could even enter the information *rolls eyes*

Yeah – still pretty damn busy, as you can see, and a little frustrating in spots (mostly due to the credit card bullshit, but what’s new), but – not as bad as last week. We’ll see what happens on Tuesday as I work to catch up on everything else!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – got back on the bike today to catch up with The Drunken Melee Adventures of P. D. Shoot in “Fallout New Vegas: You Only Live Once Remastered - Part 35 - Thrown To The Dogs!” The latest episode saw P. D. Shoot leave the “tutorial” areas of “Dead Money” and start working on getting the actual heist for Father Elijah underway, and featured:

A) P. D. braving the Medical District again (after sending Dean Domino back to wait at the central Fountain, which he was willing to do now that they’d successfully got out of the Residential District) and killing the two Ghost People still inside to make the area safe (or as safe as anywhere gets in “Dead Money”)! Reason? With the two enemies cleared, she was able to head back to the actual clinic in the district, which was one of the few places she was actually allowed to wait (apparently this DLC is very picky about where you can stand around doing nothing for a few hours). She thus advanced time past midnight, which refreshed her five daily doses of Implant GRX and made her feel much better about life. Because she wasn’t doing anything in the bigger, nastier areas without her supply of subdermal Turbo. *nods* She also took advantage of the opportunity to loot some of the trashcans and hit the workbench in the basement (where she used the terminal to free Christine) to make herself a Cosmic Knife Spear – Jon wasn’t sure if she’d get much use out of it, as he much preferred her Bear Trap Fist for beating up and killing Ghost People (thanks to the extra damage granted by the “Cross” move), but figured it was better to have it than not!

B) P. D. returning to the Fountain and getting her next mission from Father Elijah – escort her three companions to three specific locations to help set off the Gala Event that was pre-empted by the atomic bombs falling and actually open up the Sierra Madre Casino! Because apparently whoever was in charge of the Grand Opening made it so the doors of the casino would not open unless all the Gala Event stuff was triggered, and Father Elijah had figured out one person couldn’t do it alone – hence the abduction of the Courier and the others. Dean and Christine had to be taken to two specific places in the Puesta del Sol area, a big nasty quadrant of the map full of speakers and Ghost People and deadly Cloud and traps –

But Dog (and/or God) had to be taken to a specific switching station (judging by the name of the quest, “Fires In The Sky,” to set off fireworks) in Salida del Sol, a somewhat smaller and slightly less nasty quadrant of the map on the opposite side of Puesta. Naturally, P. D. decided to do his mission first. :p Both because it would be a good way to ease into the harder areas of the DLC, and because Dog had something she very much wanted…

C) P. D. thus taking Dog on as a companion, and bringing him around to where she’d left a Ghost Person alive in the starting area so she could try and get him to kill it! Reason? If she saw Dog kill and “eat” a Ghost Person, she could ask him about it, and trigger a conversation that would get her a special perk that would make dealing with Ghost People way easier in the future. Which did meant that she had to attack the Ghost Person in question without actually exploding a limb, so Dog could actually get the kill. She accordingly snuck up on the guy and hit him with a few uppercuts instead of her beloved cross –

And while this did indeed keep him alive long enough for Dog to land the killing blow, it also allowed the Ghost Person to retaliate and hit P. D. with his own Bear Trap Fist for 9 points of damage. Meaning she’s now down to 165 health. D: Jon was not happy about that, as you might expect, especially when it looked like it had all been for nothing when Dog killed the Ghost Person with a head-exploding punch to the face rather than knocking the guy unconscious and eating him. Fortunately, the dialogue option he was looking for showed up regardless when he tried talking to Dog about it, and Dog was only too happy to tell P. D. about his Ghost-People-eating habits (apparently they make a sound that really annoys him when they get back up) – and, more importantly, where to hit a Ghost Person to make them stay down permanently without having to remove a limb (apparently you have to break their spines, which makes sense). Getting her the Ghost Hunter perk that would make dealing with future Ghost People easier. Shame it cost her another 9 HP, but such is the price of progress.

D) P. D. then bringing Dog into Salida del Sol to brave all the nonsense within and get him to the switching station he needed to operate to do his part setting off the Gala Event...only to discover that her new companion was a huge liability when it came to trying to stealth around the place and get quick, clean, quiet kills on the Ghost People around (which included Seekers, who had nasty gas bombs that could set you on fire). Notable instances of Dog screwing P. D. over in this area included:

I. Dog standing at the exact corner P. D. wanted to crouch at to try and get eyes on the first enemy they’d be facing at the entrance and refusing to move – and then apparently getting the attention of not only that enemy, but also another one from a different area who wanted to see what was going on, forcing P. D. to burn a dose of GRX to run around them and kill them with crosses (though, on the plus side, Dog at least served as a good distraction, taking the gas bomb to the face)

II. Dog running in to engage another enemy upstairs who noticed them while P. D. was looking for a trap in the room – though, while Jon blamed that heart attack on Dog, I think that one was P. D.’s fault for turning on her Pip-Boy light while looking for a bear trap that was in fact in the doorway PAST the one she was searching (and indeed, the comments called him out on that :P)

III. Dog running up to an enemy by some stairs they needed to climb while P. D. was trying to get up to the guy first to smash him with the Bear Trap Fist, and briefly confusing her VATS targeting – fortunately she was able to take down the Ghost Person without issue, AND avoid a trap she’d missed along the way

IV. Dog running through a little tunnel at the end of a plaza to start a fight with the two Ghost People within – while P. D. was busy fighting two other Ghost People (with the help of some more GRX after she fucked up trying to attack one that proved to be too close to some Cloud and got the attention of the other) and trying not to get the attention of the two around the corner. She managed to kill her two Ghost People without the other two getting involved, but then discovered what Dog was doing when he returned to her position while on fire from a gas bomb, and THEN had to chase after him and kill the Ghost People he was antagonizing when he went BACK FOR MORE. *facepalm* At least she got the Abominable (+3% damage against abominations, including Ghost people) and Lord Death (+1% damage against all enemy types) perks out of it – and the chance to cripple Dog’s head for causing her so many headaches, even if hitting him was an accident XD

So yeah – Dog was nearly a fucking run ender during pretty much this entire section. I am starting to see why Jon saved this DLC for last.

E) P. D. finally getting Dog to the switching station and the switches that he needed to pull...only for Dog to start complaining that he was too hungry to listen to any instructions and that he would be able to concentrate more if he got fed. P. D. wasn’t having that and switched Dog back over to God with the help of the command tape –

But, while God could see exactly what needed to be done and how to do it, he was not on board with, you know, actually doing it. Because he was no fan of Elijah and his plan, and he wasn’t exactly keen on hanging out in a courtyard while bright lights and loud sounds brought a bunch of Ghost People to his position to see what the hell was going on. Not to mention the possibility of getting trapped should the gate behind him get locked (never mind it looked like the flimsiest gate on the planet and should be no trouble for a Nightkin to rip out if necessary). Which left P. D. with two options – find some meat for Dog to feed him and get him to listen to her and not his stomach, or find a way to get God on board.

...As the latter involved just a couple of speech checks, she went with getting God on board. XD She thus proceeded to tell God that if he didn’t help, she was sure Dog would – and when he retorted that “well, if you want him to chew up the switches, go ahead and let him out of the cage,” used her Intelligence to point out that the nearby diagram had instructions that she could walk Dog through. God grumpily acknowledged this was a viable plan and promised to stay at his post – though he added warningly that, once the Gala kicked off, “we’ll see who gets to the Sierra Madre first.” I don’t think P. D. gave a shit, though – she certainly didn’t give a shit that doing things this way wouldn’t lead to God and Dog’s optimal ending! But trying to get that would involve putting herself further at risk, and – no. Just no.

F) And P. D., having gotten God to the switches, using the nearby terminal to reactivate the ventilation system and clear some Cloud out of a nearby corridor, then using that corridor to get the hell out of dodge and back to the central plaza – making sure to disarm some bear traps, pick up some cloud residue, and raid another one of Dean Domino’s stashes along the way. Because it never hurt to have more bobby pins and poison juice!

And so the episode ended with P. D. returning to the fountain, triumphant despite all her trials and tribulations (Jon even called the whole thing a “huge win”). Next time, she starts the nightmare that is Puesta del Sol by getting her other two companions to their positions in that part of the map! Hopefully she will be able to survive its horrors like she survived the horrors of Salida del Sol...we will find out next week!

2. Continue editing Chapter 6 of “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – Got through another page of this tonight, covering:

A) Alice taking the elevator back down to the ground floor of Venture Tower, asking the Wonderlanders along the way if they thought Van, Terrence, and Mercurio had believed her when she said she was going to pack and get some blood, and didn’t suspect her of running off to immediately warn the Anarchs what was about to go down; Cheshire replied that they probably had their suspicions, but she had reasonable doubt on her side – and better yet, none of them were loyal enough to LaCroix to rat her out if they did know. Especially not Mercurio, who sold weapons to the Anarchs. Alice was very glad to hear that, as you might expect.

B) Alice then saying she hoped she caught Nines before the Blood Hunt really kicked off, and complaining about how much she regretted mentioning his presence at Grout’s in front of LaCroix, as she should have known it would go poorly; Caterpillar comforted her by saying she couldn’t have known it would go this poorly, and Alice agreed before wondering again what the hell Nines had even been doing there in the first place. But she knew that she would likely not get an answer to that tonight, so she resolved to put the question off for another time (Hatter: “Good, because that’s when the answer is coming”).

C) Alice then leaving Venture Tower (with a quick wave to Chunk, who was busy eating a burger) and following Rabbit to The Last Round, where she burst in the front doors looking for Nines – only to be confronted by a furious Skelter, asking what the fuck she thought she was doing, showing her face there after fingering Nines for killing a primogen. Cue Alice yelling back that she hadn’t said anything about Nines killing anyone, and if LaCroix had claimed she had, he was a lying liar who lies, and that she’d run back here to try and warn him; Damsel demanding to know why she hadn’t done that last night; and Alice screaming that “LACROIX HAS DOMINATE” and going on about how, if Nines did kill Grout, she wanted to shake his hand, because yes, the fucker needed to die, and she had been about ready to kill him herself after getting through that horror show of a mansion.

Whew – high-octane stuff, as you can tell! Which will be taking a swerve into the ridiculous tomorrow, as we will be starting off with me finding a way to shove the main three cast members of the British comedy quiz show “Would I Lie To You?” into this fic. XD See you then!

3. Watch something on YouTube: Weird mix of “no check” and “technical check,” I’d say, given that I didn’t quite finish the F:NV YOLO Remastered episode above during my actual workout, then ended up rewatching a decent portion of it during my write-up. So I watched something, I just didn’t watch any additional videos on TOP of it. Not entirely sure what I would have watched, granted, but it still would have been nice to get in something else. *shrug* What can you do.

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – took a moment just now to go into the drafts on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) and whip up a rough draft of Newt’s birthday fic post! It’s not finished, obviously, but at least I don’t have to do the entire thing tomorrow now. *nods* Planning ahead!

Other:

-->Happy to say that one of the Little Corners people got back to me about the bug I reported, asking me about my hardware – I let them know the pertinent information. Let’s see if they get back to me again anytime soon!

-->And if you were wondering about the situation with Dad’s teeth, they were able to tighten up his bottom plate so it sits better in his mouth – ain’t perfect, but it’s better than it was!

And there we are then! And now it is time for me to head to bed. *nods* Hopefully tomorrow will be better weather-wise, at least -- night all!
