crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (feeling sparky/creative)

A new drabbles88! I really gotta start writing for those seriously again. Regular minifics might help kickstart my brain again.
-TD: *nodnod* Worth a shot. What's it about?-
You'll see:

68. Gun
Doc relaxed as he got back onto the moving platform. It had been a difficult run, but he’d made it through the final test chamber. Now all he had to do was sit back and wait for the scientists to collect him at the end of the line. Doc had quite a few words for them on the ethical treatment of test subjects, that was for sure. I mean, really – the great prize at the end is cake? I don’t care how good it is – after a grueling experience like that, I want a monetary reward, not confectionery!
That strange computer voice came on again as he approached the cake symbol on the far wall. “Congratulations. The test is now over. All Aperture technologies remain safely operational up to 4000 degrees Kelvin.”
Doc blinked. Why on earth was the computer telling him this? Granted, he’d noticed it was malfunctioning quite a bit – another thing to talk to the scientists about – but this seemed a little odd, even for--
Then he turned the corner. Straight in front of him was the biggest fire pit he’d ever seen. Doc’s blood ran cold as the voice continued. “Rest assured, that there is absolutely no chance of a dangerous equipment malfunction prior to your victory candescence. Thank you for participating in this Aperture Science computer-aided enrichment activity. Goodbye.”
Great Scott – she’s going to kill me! GLaDOS is going to kill me! I have to get out of here! Doc’s eyes desperately scanned the walls. They all seemed to be made of that same portal-resistant metal he’d seen before. The floor was no good either, covered in that toxic slime. What could he do? It was getting very, very hot. . . .
Then he saw the observation deck above the flames. Desperate, he shot a portal onto it. But where could he put the entrance? None of the walls –
No, wait. The walls inside the furnace – they were okay! But could he make that jump safely? Doc looked at the fire and wiped the sweat out of his eyes. He had to try, at any rate. He readied the gun and took a deep breath. Please, in the name of Sir Isaac H. Newton, let this work. . . .
He entered the furnace, sweating buckets by this point. The flames licked the sides of the platform, as if eager to swallow him up. Doc ignored them, focusing his attention on the wall. He shot a portal onto it, then promptly leaped through. He landed on something cool, solid, and –
fuzzy?
Doc blinked. The scene shifted, then resolved itself into his darkened bedroom. He was lying on the floor, tangled in his sheets. Clara peered over the side of the bed at him. “Emmett? Are you all right?”
“. . . I have to have a word with Valve over how addictive that game is.”

-Docs: . . . .
-RPD: Do we have to make some sort of rule that you have to OWN a game before becoming obsessed with it?-
*giggle* Yes, folks, this is a BTTF/Portal crossover. I've been fixating on the game for a couple of days now, and this idea popped into my head at work. Hey, I had Marty and his Wonderland dreams, which ended up including American McGee in the final installment -- turnabout is fair play.
-M: Yeah, and it does seem like your type of game, Doc.-
-D: Still. . . .-
-DW: She has plot bunnies for the regular game too. Made up an old love interest for Chell and everything.-
-MF: All this from YouTube walkthroughs.-
I suppose I could get it from Steam if I wanted. Let's focus on Alice first. And getting my Sims back online sometime this century.
-RPD: *pokes* You have backups. Stop procrastinating and letting the fear of your computer crashing get to you.-
Well, it's hard after some of the shit I've had to deal with! Blue screens are scary!
-HD: But don't you miss them?-
I miss Twin Oaks Park and Eureka, yeah. Damn it, it still burns me the game pulled this shit after I booked my first vacation.
-VD: Murphy's Law. We know it well.-
Yeah, all too well I bet.

So you guys can't dangle me out of any windows for a few days more.
-OD: People are asking about Chapter 5, though.-
-TD: And what about my fic?-
I know, you're next on that list. And I've covered most of the major stuff with Chapter 5, Ock -- it's mostly authorial fiddling right now. I should have it up soon.
-OD: *tentacles chitter* Good.-
O.O!!
-OD: *smirk* Well, Lisa brought up a good point, and you SAID I could if I wanted to.-
LoL, yeah, true. I'm just glad they don't sound like GLaDOS or the turrets.
-OD: *Tommy* We're not evil, that's why.
*yawn* And now, sleep.

Hehehehehehehehehehe. Luv ya.

ROFL! BttF/Portal FTW! Did notice a spelling error though - "victory cadence" should be "victory candescence" (yeah, spellcheck doesn't recognize it, but it's what GLADoS says).

Also, your mention of plotbunnies for the game intrigues me. Old love interest, huh? Also, I know where you can get a free version of the game, if you want.

:D Well, after you mentioned it. . . .

*changes* Thanks, yeah -- I wasn't sure how to do it. :D Glad you liked!

Yeah, I had an idea that Chell was one of the scientists who was working on GLaDOS and had a romance with one of her colleges, a guy I call Jerry. Chell was the first to see GLaDOS was going nuts, tried to warn everyone, and got herself thrown in the detention cell. Ironically, that ended up saving her life when GLaDOS flooded the place. The only other one to survive was Jerry, who happened to be in a hazmat suit at the time. Poor Jerry was the first guy to go through the obstacle course after he "fixed" GLaDOS, and eventually perished trying to kill her for real. Shortly after all that, the game starts. However, some stuff at the Aperture Science website makes me think Chell was actually a victim of "take your daughter to work" day. (Go to www.apeturescience.com, type "login," "cjohnson," "tier3," "notes" if you haven't already -- it's pretty funny.)

I'm sure you do

Still not spelled right, you're missing an N. ;)

I also believe Chell was a victim of Take Your Daughter To Work Day, and yeah, I've been to the website and fooled around with it lots. Even took the survey thingy.

The cake is a lie! The cake is a lie!

Portal is subversive. The gun shoots wombs!

Thoughts? I usually don't play video games, but postmodern feminist commentary on it intrigues me.

Hi there!

*O.os at article* I admit, it's kind of neat to have a practically all-female cast (those turrets don't sound like boys to me), and the author probably has a point about how a good majority of video game females look, but the rest of it makes me kinda go, "WTF?" (Of course, the only video games I've actually played are Sims and American McGee's Alice. Wonder what the author would make of that last one.)

Hi 2 u! I have come out of hibernation.

Chuck Klosterman had a great article on the postmodernist qualities of the Sims and the existential issues posed by the game.

I haven't played American McGee's Alice, but judging from what I know about the game, the books, and Lewis Carroll's preoccupation with prepubescent girls, I think that an article deconstructing the implications of the game would be extremely interesting and slightly disturbing.

Cool :)

Yeah, I'm sure you could get a few articles worth of stuff out of that. I mean, there's the "god complex" alone. . . . :)

Indeed. Me, I'll be content with just despising the Boojums and the mechanical ladybugs (flying enemies ARE EVIL)
