FanFic Cliche Meme, Part Deux!
Jan. 22nd, 2009 11:16 pmYup, apparently there's more!
(Quick Disclaimer: Not all fic mentioned is posted yet)
Evil Twin: Hell to the yes. Good old Jack Merridew Brown, utter monster twin to NonTrilogy's Doc. A psychopath of extreme measure who nearly killed Marty once and has tortured many, many others. Pray you don't meet him in a dark alley.
Talking to a Shrink: The aftermath of Dark Half is the most straightforward example, with Marty and Doc going to see Gypsy. (Of course, years later, things take an interesting turn for Doc and Gypsy.) It also pops up in World of Darkness, between VampDoc2 and the annoying bint who is Dr. Joan Adams.
Hero Wrongfully Accused: . . .Took me a minute, but I have done this in a very small way -- during the awful family (plus Doc and Mystie) vacation the McFlys took in Vacation? I Don't Think So, Marty is briefly wrongly accused of hiding Dave's important papers. Luckily they quickly get to the truth, thanks to Doc.
Character Tortured to Secure Other Character's Cooperation: Pity poor OckDoc. The Libyans kidnap Marty in Eight Arms To Hold You and beat him up to make Doc work on a chemical bomb for them. We know how well THAT worked out for everyone. This also makes an appearance in "From the Ashes Reborn," kicking the story off.
Expansion Pack (Note: these all seem to be SG-1 centric, for some reason.)
Turned into animals: I've had thoughts about turning Doc into a werewolf, but never acted on them. The reason I'm bolding it is because of DocWolf and MartyFox. Fic written about muses counts, right?
Baby Farm: Ah, no. Unless you count me giving TrilogyDoc twins. ;)
Time Travel: My main freaking fandom is BACK TO THE FUTURE, what do you think?! Granted, I tend to write more character-driven pieces, but I don't neglect the DeLorean.
Matchmaking Third Party: Hmmm -- I don't think I've done this one. Most of my characters are in steady relationships, and nobody tries to set Doc up on dates while he's single. Except probably Emily, which means I'll italicize this for completeness's sake.
Near Death Confessions: Nope, I'm near-positive I don't have any deathbed confessions. This despite characters coming darn close a couple of times.
Alternative Realities: I LIVE FOR ALTERNATE UNIVERSES. Seriously, look at my muse crew. I have not ONE fully canon-compliant Doc around here full-time. Trilogy occasionally pops by the Inkwell, but I seem to prefer taking canon and TWISTING IT TO HELL. This also applies to my "Corpse Bride" fandom, as I've got a couple of AUs over in Overly Plotted Bunnies.
Stranded Off-World: Not on an alien planet, but there's been temporary strandings in alternate timelines and past/future time periods. It goes along with being a BTTF-style time traveler.
Medical Discharge: Again, not in the sense the cliche actually means. I'm bolding it because Marty's recuperation at the end of "Dark Half" probably fits the spirit of the cliche.
Wedding Fic: Yup! VampDoc and Mystie got married in Curiouser and Curiouser -- the bulk of the story takes place post-ceremony, but the first chapter details the ceremony itself. I'm also writing up Victor and Victoria's wedding now in "Bonds of Holy Matrimony."
Holiday Fic: Two years of Christmas Challenges (both self-imposed, but whatever), and a couple of Halloween fics. I like doing stuff about holidays, honestly. It's fun.
Kidnapping: . . . You really have to feel bad for Marty. He's constantly being either deliberately (Eight Arms, Dark Half) or inadvertently (Gift and Curse, A Switch In Time) abducted by people. I really need to make more nice things happen to him.
Slavery: Bolding although I'm a touch iffy. Would OckDoc's tenure with the Libyans qualify? If not, I haven't quite gotten that far yet. I don't think. (I HAVE WRITTEN TOO MUCH FANFIC AND CANNOT KEEP IT ALL STRAIGHT)
Tent Porn: Nope. There are better places for porn.
Accidental/immaculate/alien pregnancy: -- bolding since, as will be revealed in "Dude Looks Like a Lady," the twins weren't actually planned. Neither were Josie's triplets in "World of Light," actually. So yeah, done this.
Going Rogue: Can't say I've done this. Can't think of a "spirit of the cliche" example, anyway.
Brainwashing: I've had some thoughts about it thanks to crazy fandom memes, but nobody's gotten converted yet. I -- admit to having a thing for hypnotism, but I don't like seeing it taken THAT far. Personalities plzkthanx.
Death Fic: Jack buys it at the end of Reality Check 2: Double Trouble, and he kills a couple of minor characters in that. Other than him, though, I don't think I've ever offed a major --
Oh, hang on! Red probably qualifies too, even if the death is off-screen. (And now the Docs are giving me looks. Forgot about that one, did we?)
Briefing Table Porn: No. Not applicable to me anyway.
Dancing/Go to a Ball/yada yada: The Dance Lesson fic I wrote for
anivad as part of a fic request meme, and the followup Nine Ladies Dancing was all about a school dance for Marty and Jennifer. I don't think I've done any others yet.
. . . I'm kinda bad with this cliche stuff. ^^;
