And Lo, There Was Much Consumerism
Apr. 18th, 2009 11:28 pmOkay, I didn't buy THAT much while I was out, but there is now a pretty good dent in my wallet. Of course, I didn't start out with all that much money to begin with. . . .
-TD: Time to cash the next paycheck?-
Yeah, I think so. Anyway, a summary of the trip:
-->I actually decided to dress up for this one, just for the hell of it. I've got two vaguely Victorian outfits in my closet I've kind of wanted to wear again for a while, so I mixed and matched -- Agatha Heterodyne's blouse and vest, and general steampunk girl's skirt with a pair of comfy slacks underneath. I also finally got to wear my Wulfenbach pin, which was nice. I also wore my spatted boots, which ended up presenting a problem. . .
-->The Tale of the Boots: My black, low-heel boots currently have felt "spats" on them, simply because I like the look. The spats are held together by glue. Now, I ended up leaving a little later than I intended to catch the bus, so I jogged part of the way to my stop.
Cue the glue on one of my boots giving out, leaving my spats to flap around.
Okay, now I have a problem. The bus stop I usually leave from is in front of a CVS, but I didn't quite have the time to get in there and get back out before the bus came. And I didn't have any tape or anything like that on me to fix things. I got on the bus with my spat still loose, wondering what the hell I could do to fix it. I knew there's a CVS in the mall, where I could get something to fix it up, but what was I supposed to do before I got there?
Halfway through the trip, it hit me. I was wearing my usual lanyard of keys, and the lanyard is covered with various pins. Now, most of them are glued down -- but one, a pin advertising the Mummy Ride at Universal, ISN'T. So I took that off my lanyard and used it to pin up my spat. It actually held together pretty well, and I was able to make to CVS and buy some tape to properly shore it up.
-D: Note to self, always carry glue around.-
Heh, it's okay.
-->After that little adventure was over, I hit my usual stores. Borders yielded two new books -- another "Dilbert" collection and another Discworld book, "Eric." I have already decided I like "Eric."
-TD: o.O That was fast.-
-MF: How can you decide you like a book you haven't read yet?-
-DW: Logical extrapolation, probably -- she's liked all the Discworld she's read so far.-
It was more a matter of the back-cover blurb.
-DW: Oh? What was --
*pause*
It's a Rincewind book, isn't it?-
:D He returns! Definitely something to look forward to. Though "Pyramids," the one I'm currently on, is shaping up to be a good read. A long read, but a good one.
-->Didn't buy anything from Hot Topic, but Newberry Comics provided a few things:
a) Some guy was giving a concert with his guitar and handing out free CDs. I got one, though I haven't listened to it yet. He wasn't bad in-person, so we'll see.
b) After seeing an edited-for-TV version the other day, I figured I ought to own my own copy of the Mel Brooks classic, "Blazing Saddles." It's the 30th Anniversary edition and comes with a bunch of goodies. :D
c) I got a Beating Heart pillow.
-M: A wha?-
This. I found it in one of their "random plushy stuff" racks, picked it up on a whim, found myself carrying it around, and figured, "What the hell, why not?"
-HD: Living pillows. How curious.-
It is. Mom thought it was creepy. Me -- well, it's not as creepy as I thought it would be. Kind of tickles if you hold it right. :p
-VD: Well, as long as you're happy with it.-
I think I am. I dunno about the whole "relaxation" thing, but it is nice to hold and snuggle.
-->For lunch, I had Subway -- my usual Chicken Teriyaki with baked Lays' Doritos and a Diet Coke. I'd planned on trying Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits, but I just didn't have the taste for it. And the fact that a lot of the other places in the food court had long lines when I arrived and it didn't . . . Hmm.
-VD2: Probably a good idea to stick with the classics then.-
Probably.
-->Dave and Buster's was the usual fun stuff. I won again at Mario Kart (Luigi and his minitrain FTW), and I played all my usual motorcycle/race car racing games. I'm getting better at some of them! I especially like Arctic Thunder.
I also played a round of Ms Pac Man, even though I suck at it. It's the damn joystick -- the character runs all over the screen in directions I'm not expecting. I'm constantly going, "No, go UP!" Even so, I got farther than I usually did.
-->Before leaving, I hit TCBY's for a sweet treat. I thought it was an ice cream stand -- to my surprise, it's actually a frozen yogurt place. But it was still tasty -- I got a "Shiver" with chocolate sprinkles, crushed Oreos, and mini M&Ms mixed in. A good treat to eat on the way back to the bus.
So yeah, all in all a pretty pleasant day out.
-RPD: Glad you enjoyed it.-
Indeed. I also got a little RPing done, and some more backstory written for Simon and Lucy. Aaand I bit the bullet and made myself a community musebox.
-VuM: Awesome! Where is it?-
inkwell_bar -- as you can see, it's very much not finished yet. I'll start making it look good tomorrow. For now, I've got a tag for Dee I ought to answer.

Date: 2009-04-19 05:09 am (UTC)I just was in the mood. I figured, I've got these outfits, I ought to wear them sometime other than Halloween. (Also, my favorite pair of comfy jeans is in the wash.)
Didn't have my camera on me today, but it should be simple to recreate the outfit for a pic or two tomorrow. I do wanna show off my Wulfenbach pin.
