crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)

I'm starting work on my new Alice story (the one where she talks things over with the boss characters), and it's occurred to me that I like to combine Wonderlands. Tim Burton's imagining has had an effect on me, obviously, but I like to take elements from other Wonderlands too, and just throw them all together.
-HD: Nothing wrong with that. Wonderland seems uniquely suited for that.-
Indeed it does. Since I have little else to talk about (it's been a quiet day), I figured I might as well ramble on about which ideas come from where.

Base Wonderland: American McGee's Alice Wonderland

The Book:
-->The chess pieces can look and move like people -- I consider them all being living pieces to be an aberration caused by the state Wonderland was in (i.e., the knights are supposed to be people in horse-headed armor, not horse-headed pieces)
-->The Red Queen is the actual fricking Red Queen, NOT the Queen of Hearts -- at least, post-game. (My theory on this is that the Queen of Hearts in the game killed the actual Red Queen and took her place to gain control of the Red chess pieces. You'll notice we never see the real Red Queen in Looking-Glass Land, and the boss is the Red King.)

The Animated Disney Movie:
-->The mirror that reflects things moving downward as moving upward -- I just think it's neat and like sticking it in the rabbit hole

The NBC Made For TV Version:
-->The White Knight looking like Christopher Lloyd. He OWNED the part.

The Tim Burton Movie:
-->The bed and grand piano in the rabbit hole -- actually, the excess of furniture in general (this also applies to the Animated movie)
-->The Futterwacken -- what, I liked it! I'm thinking of adding it into any future ball scenes I write. (I'm also thinking of adding in the Mamushka XD)

. . .That's less than I thought. Maybe the late hour is affecting my memory. But yeah, you can see that I like to grab favorite elements and combine them. I mean, look at "Marty In Wonderland" -- it's a pretty even mix of the books and the Animated Disney movie, with bits of American McGee's Alice thrown in.
-WRM: We could have done without the latter.-
Really? That Marty did kill the Jabberwock, you know.
-WRM: . . . Does that mean I get to be awesome by proxy?-
Sure!
-WRM: Yay!-
*snork* And, lastly, my own personal spin on the land is giving it Genius Loci qualities -- it responds to the emotions of those connected to it (Alice primarily, but Victor affects things too), but I swear, sometimes when I'm writing Solicitor's Ward, I get the feeling Wonderland itself is kind of alive. I'm sure this has been done before -- hell, I'd like to hear some examples, if you can think of them.
