Happy Birthday Alice!

crossover_chickAnd also to Shaenon Garrity, creator of Narbonic and co-creator of Skin Horse! She's one of my favorite webcartoonists, after the Foglios. Mostly because she does a lot of Mad Science stuff herself. *still wishing Narbonic and Girl Genius had done a proper crossover*
Anyway, spent most of the day doing Alice's Inkwell Post. I also posted the results of Alice Dolly's celebration on Victor Plush's Twitter. Yes, see the fruits of my labor -- a weird-looking lily. At least Alice Dolly likes it.
And of course, I can't let the occasion pass without Victor/Alice fic, right? And I know just the one to post:
10. Violin – That’s How You Know
“Well, they certainly went all out, didn’t they?”
“They certainly did,” Victor agreed, spinning Alice around before pulling her close again. “An amusing show, a lovely dinner. . . .”
“Even dancing,” Alice said, nodding at the violinist nearby.
“Indeed. It’s been a perfectly lovely evening.” Victor glanced over at the musician with a slightly embarrassed grin. “It wasn’t really necessary for you to do all this.”
Lucy grinned back at him. “Yes it was. I know you weren’t looking for sympathy when you mentioned you and Alice had never had a real date out, but still, we couldn’t help but feel bad.”
“Even so, all of you spending your whole evening on us--”
“Don’t start, buster,” Simon said, lounging in a nearby chair. “You deserve it.”
“Precisely,” Doc agreed from behind the Inkwell’s bar. “You’re our friends. We wanted to do this.”
“Besides, what else do we have to do?” Marty added with a shrug, sitting beside Doc. “Hush up and enjoy yourselves.”
Alice giggled as she looked up at her boyfriend. “I think that’s an order, Victor.”
Victor smiled at everyone more genuinely. “Well then, thank you all.” He dipped Alice. “We’re really lucky, aren’t we?”
Alice nodded, and kissed him. “Oh yes. We definitely are.”
-TTV: Well, now Alice has the dress for this at least.-
*giggle* I've had this one written up for a while, actually. When I saw the "violin" prompt, I knew it would have to be museverse, and involve Lucy playing her instrument of choice. It took me a little while to come up with the exact scenario, though. After I realized that I'd never really sent Victor and Alice on an actual "date"-date, everything fell into place.
-HD: I don't think Alice actually cares about going on "date"-dates. She's never complained.-
I know. She and Victor are honestly okay with just hanging out. And even when I do have them go on dates in my fanfic, they tend toward going on picnics rather than doing anything fancy. I just wanted the gang to do something nice for them.
There's not much to say about the story itself -- but as you might guess, it inspired the thread with Lucy in Alice's birthday post. I was trying to come up with gifts for the gang to give her, and then I remembered this story and decided to have Lucy give Alice the evening gown. Perhaps something like this will be happening "for real" in the musespace soon. And if ever the "in-character" versions of Victor and Alice go on a fancy date, you can bet that's the dress Alice will be wearing.
As for the title, it's the title of one of my favorite songs from Enchanted, the one Giselle sings in the park. I wasn't sure if it fit at first, but hey -- this IS how Victor and Alice know they're loved by their friends.
Okay, gotta hit the sack -- I got extra walking to do tomorrow. Not that I really mind, stuff has to get done -- I'm just saying, if I can, I am going NOWHERE on Saturday.
