While I'm Actually Thinking About It
Aug. 12th, 2010 02:37 pmToday is apparently the 71st anniversary of the Wizard of Oz -- according to Google, anyway. I was actually thinking about this the other day on the bus -- part of the Disney interpretation of "The Walrus and the Carpenter" was going through my head, and I noticed it had a bit of similarity, tune-wise, to "We're Off To See the Wizard." Mostly in that section where the Walrus starts "playing" his cane to get the oysters to follow him. Listen to it here -- am I just crazy, or is there a little musical similarity?
Also,
martyfan's sudden proliferation of Clark Kents got me thinking about some of the ideas for characters currently bugging me. A short list:
Secundus!Victor
Possible LJ Name: "butterflyboy" or some variation thereof (it fits him better than another joke like
deadgirlsliekme, since he's a premovie AU)
Reason I'm Holding Back: I mentioned this before -- icon issues. Since Secundus!Victor ends up dressing differently, I'd want at least one image of him with his goggles to make sure he "looked right." Not to mention I should probably wait until I've actually written something ON "Secundus" before bringing him into the world. . . .
Secundus!Alice
Possible LJ Name: So far, all I can come up with is "steampunkalice," but there has to be something better than that
Reason I'm Holding Back: Again, icons are an issue, since this Alice has more variety in her dress. I'm also not quite sure on her history as of yet. You see, since Wonderland in this world is sort of a real place (Lewis Carroll's Botanical Wonderland Park, to be precise), but she also went to the asylum after the death of her parents, I'm not sure how to handle the part of her history that would be analogous to the game. I suppose she could have used her memories of nice Wonderland Park to create the twisted Wonderland. . .though did she meet Richard (Hatter) before or after then? Hmmm. The only thing I'm sure of is that, since the Queen of Hearts is the big villain of the story, in her asylum trials Alice's big boss is the Jabberwock. (Any of you who have played the game should agree with me that he's more than appropriate for that role.) Not to mention that I haven't come up with quite the right name for her yet.
The King of Hearts (from "The Solicitor's Ward)
Possible LJ Name: Haven't decided yet -- I'd want something that references both "American McGee's Alice" and Corpse Bride
Reason I'm Holding Back: HE'S FUCKING CREEPY. The version that pops up from time to time is roughly midstory, so he's still more or less pure "Victor's self-loathing given form." He can be nice to people, sure, and he might be interesting to play, but I'd rather not traumatize Tie-Twister and DGVictor with him. Or myself -- I could never do or look at his icons, because of his solid black eyes. I tried blacking out Victor's eyes in a picture once -- the effect was WAY too eerie. And again, no proper LJ name.
Inkwell Pets
Possible LJ Name: "inkpets" (I think it's cute)
Reason I'm Holding Back: This one actually has a chance in hell of being made, since I think it would be useful for the animal population that's starting to spring up in the Inkwell. Once again, though, icons elude me -- I'm thinking it might take longer than I'd want to find an appropriate Splatter (Alice's kitty, in case you've forgotten). I could make him in Sims, but that game has given me issues, so. . . . I also really want a Terrible Terror to be a part of it, so I need the time to properly convince Alice and Lucy, our two firephobes. (Actually, the Terrible Terror (Growf, natch) was bugging me for his own journal before, but that stopped when I had the idea for the group pet journal.)
Inkwell Spares
Possible LJ Name: "inkwellspares" or "inkspares"
Reason I'm Holding Back: Again, another one that's closer to being made, as soon as I decide who I want in it. The Inkwell staff is obvious (that would be Lou from BTTF, Chester from BTTF III, and Mrs. Plum from Corpse Bride), but other than that, I'm not sure who would drop by regularly enough. I DID want to get the Van Dorts and the Everglots in there properly at some point (so far they've been invisible drop-bys -- that is, only mentioned from way back when the Inkwell was just a general hangout spot in my head), and I suppose I could find icons for Aunt Susan and Uncle Charles. Cheshire too. And maybe the Evil Coffeemaker, just for kicks. XD This one's main problem is that it doesn't bug me nearly as much as some of the others, so I actually don't think about it too often.
Of course, we all know how well I held out against Dee, Simon, and Steve & Gary, so we'll probably be seeing at least one of these in the future. Like I said, "inkpets" has the greatest chance of actually existing as soon as I figure out Splatter icons. Though "butterflyboy" would give me an opportunity to use some great Victor icons I found somewhere else -- NO, we cannot turn into Ael and make new journals just to have increased icon choices.

Date: 2010-08-12 07:01 pm (UTC)Oh, by the way, you know how I said the other day that Smallville has never had an Oz reference? Turns out they had one in, like, the third episode. Sort of. Chloe was baffled about Lana quitting the cheerleading team and Clark being temporarily conscripted into a football jock for the week and wanted to know how to get out of Oz and back to reality. And that was it.
THEY LIVE IN FRIGGING KANSAS AND THEY HAD A TORNADO IN ONE EPISODE AND THERE WERE NO REFERENCES WAAAUGH okay I'm done.

Date: 2010-08-12 07:59 pm (UTC)*facepalm* That's it? And NOTHING in the tornado episode? Some needs to go pokes the writers with a stick until they make a PROPER reference.
