Quiet Wednesday
Aug. 18th, 2010 11:29 pmBeen playing more with Simon, and I put ickle!Victor into a post too so I can play around with him. I hope at one point to have him complain that he'd forgotten how annoying it can be, being short. (I have him as a rather small child before puberty, where he sprouted up like a WEED.)
-M: Now he knows how I feel.-
Oh, be nice.
Been having a few Alicey thoughts as of late, as is my wont now that the sequel's been announced. I find myself wishing the article on TV Tropes had a Wild Mass Guessing so I could prattle on about my ideas for the Red Queen/Queen of Hearts confabulation.
-D: Isn't that what this journal is for?-
LOL, point, but I'd still like to do that. However, since you've mentioned it:
My idea, in essence, is that the Queen of Hearts killed the Red Queen and took her place to gain the loyalty of the Red chess pieces. You'll notice that, although the Red King is seen (and is a (rather easy) boss fight), we never see any sign of the Red Queen in "Checkmate in Red." Yes, I know this is probably just American McGee following in the footsteps of everyone else who has turned the pair into the same person, but I like my theory better.
-VD: I wonder why they do that.-
-HD: To try and save themselves the horror of two nasty monarchs, I suppose. Too bad they always pick the wrong personality. The Red Queen can be rude and condescending and all sorts of other nasty words, but she will actually make an attempt at being decent company sometimes. The Queen of Hearts just likes to order beheadings whenever and wherever.-
Yeah, exactly. My Annotated Alice has Dodgson describing them both as "Furies," but of different kinds -- the Queen of Hearts is an "embodiment of ungovernable passion -- a blind and aimless Fury." The Red Queen, on the other hand, is quite different: "her passion must be cold and calm; she must be formal and strict, yet not unkindly; pedantic to the tenth degree, the concentrated essence of all governesses!" You couldn't get more opposite.
-TD: I wonder how that will come up in the sequel.-
I dunno -- would be interesting if American McGee got on the ball and put a Red Queen into the Looking-Glass world of Wonderland. Have to wait and see.
