Well, there was one thing I wanted to do that should still be good -- if anybody wants to play with any of my characters, you can just comment here with who you want to chat with and a setting (if you care about such things).
Well, naturally, the muses are the first to respond. Specifically, HatterDoc, who is quite curious about this tiny little person. "Hello there," he says, looking upside-down at her.
I laugh. "She was a lot smaller when she was born. She was 7lbs. when she was born. She's probably closer to 15 now. I'll find out on the 19th." I look around. "Where's everyone else?"
Anita promptly grabs onto that finger and proceeds to try to put it in her mouth. "I hope your finger is clean," I say. "She likes to put things in her mouth now."
"Don't worry, I wasn't working on any experiments recently," TeenDoc assures her, watching as Anita gives him a taste.
The other muses are coming out of the woodwork now. TieTwisterVictor approaches, looking both curious and shy at the same time. Kids aren't really his area of expertise.
At this point I've taken a seat because this kid is heavy! It takes a couple of seconds to pry TeenDoc's finger out of her grip but it's doable.
"Hey, Victor," I say, noticing the skinny bloke. "She won't bite, you know." I pause and consider that. "Well, as long as you don't let her get a hold of your fingers she won't." I grin.
"It's just a baby," NoTril Marty assures him, patting his back. "Not an alien from Zortox 3 or something like that."
"And even if she does get your fingers, she's really just going to gum them," TeenDoc adds, looking at his drool-covered digit for a moment before wiping it off on his vest.
"I'd prefer for that not to happen either," Tie-Twister says, before waving at Anita. "Hello young miss?"
Victor blushes as Anita smiles at him. "Well -- good," he says, waggling his fingers at her -- though out of reach of her little grabby hands, of course.
The boys pause and look at each other nervously. Playing with the baby is one thing -- but holding her? None of them are familiar with little ones, and nobody wants to drop her.
After a moment, though, OckDoc steps up. "I'll give it a try, if you show me how," he says, tentacles waving a bit behind him. His reasoning is that he's got four extra arms for a firmer grip, so to speak, so he's the best bet.
I give a slight giggle at their nervousness but do understand their plight. I hold Anita properly in my arms, supporting her head although she's at that point in her life where she loves to sit up more than lay down.
"Just like this," I say. "She might wiggle a little cuz she's a wiggle worm but don't be afraid to have a firm grip on her. She's tougher than she looks. She likes to sit up, too, so if you want you could also hold her like this." I hold her so she's sitting upright on my lap facing outward so her head is against my chest if she chooses to flop it, which she probably won't.
Anita herself finds the movements hilarious and she's babbling up a storm while sucking on two fingers.
OckDoc (and the tentacles) study the technique. It looks simple enough. . . . "All right," OckDoc says, holding out his arms to take the baby. He's careful to copy what Lisa does as exactly as he can. Verne snakes around him and under his arms to provide a little extra support. "Hi there," he says as he gets Anita settled.
OckDoc chuckles, the tentacles winding around him and watching the kidlet. "Oh, she's cute," he says, the boys nodding along.
He and the other muses shake their heads. "We're all present day, so to speak," VampDoc explains. "From the present fics only. I think she thought it would be confusing to have us remember things that haven't happened yet."
"After Alice's experience over at the Inkwell, I think I agree with her," RolePlayDoc adds.
"Everyone says that." Which is true. She basically makes everyone she meets fall in love with her.
"Oh," I say to VampDoc and the others. "Huh. I guess I see what you mean. The version of AL that hangs around you guys has a vague idea of what's gone on throughout her time line, past and future...what's not blocked by amnesia, anyways...though she kind of chooses to ignore it. She's good at that."
Well, she's an adorable baby, what do you expect? :p
"Heh," VampDoc2 says. "I don't know how we'd be. Time travel on its own can be confusing enough, especially considering Vic's stance on we remember both old and new time lines."
"I have no idea how you keep it all straight in your heads," Tie-Twister comments, before proceeding to make faces at Anita.
"Slip-ups happen," Marty says. "I gotta be careful when reminiscing with the family in case I accidentally mention something that only happened in the old time line. Luckily most things line up, but. . . ."
