Nightmare Fuel? In My BTTF Game?
Feb. 19th, 2011 02:26 pmIt's more likely than you think.
Seriously, this hit me the other night before I hit the sheets -- the Telltale game is DARK. I know it seems like a barrel of laughs/sometimes frustrating puzzles, but a lot of the plot is really freaking scary at times. Here, let me make lists:
Episode One
Episode 2
So yes, this sort of ranks up there with the Card Game for Fridge Horror. Yeeeps.
Seriously, this hit me the other night before I hit the sheets -- the Telltale game is DARK. I know it seems like a barrel of laughs/sometimes frustrating puzzles, but a lot of the plot is really freaking scary at times. Here, let me make lists:
Episode One
- The altered parking lot scene, particularly Doc's fade-out. One of the main characters is being erased from existence. Plus, think about it from Marty's perspective -- he's watching his best friend fade away, and he's partially faded out himself -- he knows that shit hurts. That must have been one hell of a nightmare.
- Biff's a fucking vulture. The guy doesn't give a shit about Doc or the fact that his best friend is right there -- he's taking what he wants. (And he's willing to try and shove Marty around even with George there! What happened to "I really like that hat, Marty?")
- The speakeasy explosion. They never said the place was empty. . . .
- Doc's death. If Edna's article is at all accurate, he dies in a pretty horrific way before Marty goes back to rescue him.
- Emmett and his relationship with his father. The poor guy's scared to death -- why is he so frightened of telling his dad he likes science over law? I kind of want to meet Judge Brown directly in one of the episodes and find out just how much like my Elias he really is now.
Episode 2
- Marty's fading in and out. The poor kid's obviously in pain. And -- well, goddamnit, it's MARTY BEING ERASED FROM EXISTENCE.
- The Tannen Mafia timeline includes George in a wheelchair. The dialogue trees you're given as you dodge Biff and his new brothers includes Marty asking what they did, and one of the brothers (Cliff?) saying that he's been in that wheelchair since before Marty was born. It's also mentioned that they paid him back for punching Biff in the parking lot. Basically, the Tannen family paralyzed George. Not to mention they ran all three of his kids out of town for whatever reason. And Kid openly tries to murder Marty before Doc rescues him.
- Kid Tannen's "Wall of Fame." If having one of your guys do caricatures of every guy you've killed for your bar doesn't cement your status as a Complete Monster, I'm not sure what does.
- Kid Tannen tries to kill Emmett. He takes him hostage, then knocks him over the side of a building! Emmett naturally manages to grab onto the side of the roof and save himself (he's "The Streak," dontcha know), but GAAAAH
- The trailer for Episode 3. As one of my Martys said, "For the love of God, don't be 1984 with my best friend." The fact that there's a Reeducation center mentioned makes me DEEPLY CONCERNED.
So yes, this sort of ranks up there with the Card Game for Fridge Horror. Yeeeps.
