-TTV: Oh good lord, what has my canon gotten into this time?-
It's not yours, it's Alice's! AJ LoCascio lists in this interview (I only just found it) that "American McGee's Alice" is a favorite game of his!!
-M: O.O-
-M2: . . .Right in front of "Super Mario World."-
But right behind "Resident Evil 4." I just -- what the hell is going on here?! Why are all of my fandoms linked in the weirdest ways?!
-TD: Maybe the universe strongly approves of "Secundus?"-
Maybe -- I need to get writing on that again. After I do my taxes, though -- we got the newest TurboTax today. I might still need to fiddle around with deductions, but so far it looks like I'm in good shape.
Anyway, two things I mainly wanted to show you today (now that LJ has recovered from yet another DDoS attack). First up are some Sim pictures I forgot the other day from Steampunk Gulch -- my attempt at making the Corpse Bride church.

ImageFra.me
As you can see, I didn't do so great. In my defense, I was working from the "making of" book, and for some reason the only exterior shot of the church I could find was a tiny one in the background.

ImageFra.me
The inside is a bit better, with multistory columns, benches, a wedding arch, and available Wine of Ages ;). I haven't decided what the back will be used for quite yet, though bathrooms will be part of it.
-RPD: Are you really leaving the toasting set there? You know how Sims get obsessed with it.-
Maybe, maybe not. I'm not quite done with the church, so we'll see.

And the promised 25 Foods, focusing on a subject that's been on my mind thanks to How To Train Your Dragon fanfic:

20. Mustard
“She’s slathering mustard on everything.”
Charles Liddell frowned at his son-in-law. He and Victor were in the Liddells’ study, having a bit of a males-only chat before tea. “Mustard?” he repeated, trying to figure out how a question about how Alice was doing had led to such a statement.
Victor nodded, a rather lost expression on his face. “Yes. Mustard. On everything. I-I mean, I understand on sandwiches, but – she puts it on fruit, on vegetables, on bread without any meat to go with it. . .she made chocolate biscuits a few days ago, and she put mustard on hers! I once even caught her eating it straight out of the jar!” He shook his head, then gave Charles a beseeching look. “P-perhaps this is r-rude of me, but – did Mrs. Liddell e-ever – I mean--”
Oh, now Charles understood. He smiled at the young man. “Yes, her eating habits did turn a bit peculiar before each of our boys,” he told Victor. “She never wanted mustard, though. For her, it was smoked ham. Which greatly upset our doctor, as she was supposed to be eating cooling foods, not mountains of meat. . . . And I seem to recall Lorina craving pickles in the months before Alice.” He patted Victor’s shoulder. “I believe it’s normal. Your wife hasn’t gone completely mad.”
Victor smiled awkwardly, looking rather embarrassed. “I must look a bit silly, don’t I? It’s just – there’s so much happening now. But it’s all happening to Alice, and I feel like – like I’m just along for the ride.”
Charles nodded. “I know all about that. I felt that way during each of Susan’s pregnancies.”
Victor arched an eyebrow. “All four?”
Charles nodded again. “All four. Even with Lionel, I felt somewhat lost. This is mostly women’s business.”
Victor frowned. “But – I want to be i-involved! I’m the father – I want to f-feel I can help, or at least understand! I don’t like feeling so l-lost, so unsure!”
Charles patted his shoulder again. “I know, Victor. God, I know. But there’s not much you can do. This sort of thing is the province of the fairer sex.” Seeing Victor’s dejected expression, he added, “But I’m sure Alice appreciates your wanting a more active role. And when the time comes, I’m certain you’ll be a wonderful father.”
That got a genuine smile out of the boy. “Thank you, sir. That means a lot to me.”
There was a knock on the door. “Tea is ready,” Susan announced, poking her head in.
“Thank you, Susan.” He and Victor followed his wife to the drawing room, where the tea service was set up. Alice was there already, seated on the couch and absently rubbing her slowly expanding belly. She smiled as everyone entered. “Did you men have a nice talk?” she teased as they took their places.
Victor and Charles shared a small grin. “Very nice,” Victor nodded.
Susan poured the tea for everyone. Alice added her usual bit of cream to her cup – then, suddenly, looked thoughtful. She picked up the jar of mustard Susan had brought (obviously they’d been talking about her cravings too), dropped a little in her tea, and mixed it in. Everyone watched in astonishment as she sipped the resulting concoction.
And promptly gagged. “Alice?!” Victor asked worriedly, putting a steadying hand on her back as she coughed.
“I’m fine,” Alice said, getting her breath back. “Ugh. . .that’s one flavor combination I shouldn’t have tried.”
Victor nodded, then shot Charles a helpless, “what am I going to do with her?” look. Charles quickly lifted his cup to his lips to disguise his chuckles. Oh, dear. . .well, I did only say she hadn’t gone completely mad. . . .

-HD: "Mustard? Don't let's be silly!"-
*snrrrk* I actually didn't think of that bit while writing this, believe it or not. I just thought the idea of Alice being a mustard addict while pregnant was hilarious. Can't have a pregnancy without strange cravings, am I right?
-J: At least it wasn't pickles? Though I notice you mentioned them with her mother.-
Had to be done. Anyway, I don't know what at the time inspired me to write pregnant!Alice fic -- I probably just had babies on the brain. It's an interesting change for me, given that I usually go straight from them being happy newlyweds to them with kids in my prompt fic.
-VD2: To be fair, I think most women would like to skip the messy business of pregnancy and birth and just have the kid.-
*laugh* Depends on the woman. The reference to "cooling foods" and Susan's doctor being upset with her for eating meat comes from a tidbit on Victorian pregnancy I found on the web. Apparently pregnant women back then were strongly encouraged to have lots and lots of veggies and fruit -- which, honestly, probably isn't that bad an idea. Gotta get the vitamins into the system. We also learn the name of Alice's youngest cousin, Lionel. An earlier cousin was named Stephen -- I picture him as the second oldest. Oldest and third oldest are Jerome and Terrence, respectively. If you're wondering, they're all tall masses of muscle who like rugby.
-TTV: *deadpan* So I have in-laws that could snap me in half. Good to know.-
-VM: At least it's only SW-you that has to deal with them.-
Not true -- I know the fic itself is vague enough to fit that universe, but I actually see this as a Secundus-verse fic. It'd take place a couple of months before "Secundus 2." Don't worry about either Victor, though -- the cousins like him.
Other than that, not much to say. Though I do like Charles being all fatherly to Victor here. I much prefer writing him like this than writing him at odds with the kid, like in "Love Will Find A Way." No more mean Uncle Charleses for me, ever.
-TTV: I am perfectly fine with this.-
I thought you would be.

And that's that! Now time to write up this idea for a new 25 Foods I had, and finish off the rest of that interview I linked to.

*makes so-so gesture* I didn't have any weird cravings. The most I wanted was either Subway, Burger King or KFC (except that one time that I HAD to have a burger from Stewarts). Not all together.

Yeah, I've heard the cravings thing is more common in fictional pregnancies than real life. (Though having the occasional craving for Subway sounds okay to me. :p)
