crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)

Today is apparently important to Star Wars fans (May the Fourth be with you), "Narbonic" and "Skin Horse" fans (happy birthday, Shaenon!), most importantly from my point of view, Alice In Wonderland fans -- happy birthday, Alice! :D Party's over here, though it's shorter than ones in the past -- I honestly don't think I can come up with regular present ideas anymore, so (with the exception of Butterfly Boy) I'm drastically cutting down the present threads. Significant others and best friends (and BBV, since he's new) only from now on.
-TTV: I think Alice is perfectly all right with that, considering what everyone got her.-
:p Yeah, I figured. Hooray for the new weapons! Butterfly Boy also sent out birthday greetings -- considering he knows more than one Alice, I thought he ought to do his own post.
-RPM: Sheesh, I think that's the first time you've posted anything even vaguely in-character in that journal.-
I know! Had to happen sometime. Anyway, I also feel I should honor the occasion with fic, so here, have a 25 Foods:

24. Writer’s Choice: Baby Food
“Come on, Chester. . .open up. . .open up for Mummy. . . .”
Chester eyed the spoon Alice held in front of him, lips tightly closed. “It’s food, I promise,” Alice told him. “Smashed-up peaches. It’s good, see?” She sampled the spoonful she held. “Mmm-mmm!”
Chester just continued to stare at her. Alice sighed. “Please, Chester. I spent all morning turning these into pulp for you.”
“How goes it?”
Alice looked up as Victor walked in. “Not well,” she admitted. “He just keeps looking at me as if I’ve freshly landed from Mars. I never thought getting a baby to eat would be harder than some of the other things I’ve done.” She contemplated a fresh spoonful of the peach mush. “Will we ever get him on solid food? Or semi-solid, as the case may be. . . .”
“He’ll eat eventually,” Victor shrugged. “Children aren’t very good at starving themselves.” He peered at the spoon. “What is that, anyway?”
“Crushed peaches with a little added sugar.” Alice offered it to him. “You can try it if you like. I would hate for it to go to waste.”
Victor accepted the utensil and tried the mush. He made a pleased noise in the back of his throat. “Oh, that’s quite good. If he won’t eat it, I certainly will.”
“No!”
Both Victor and Alice looked over at their son in surprise. Chester was pouting, eyes narrowed. “Mine!” he said, pointing to the jar and spoon.
Alice was puzzled for a moment. Then a sly smile spread across her face as she realized how to turn this to her advantage. “But you’re not eating it,” she informed her son. “So why shouldn’t I give it to Daddy?”
“Mine!” Chester protested, reaching out a little hand.
“If it’s yours, then you have to eat it,” Alice said, taking the spoon back from Victor. “Daddy can’t get at it if it’s in your tummy.” She scooped up a fresh glob and held it to Chester’s lips. “Well?”
Chester hesitated for a moment. Then he let his mother spoon the mush into his mouth. He made a surprised, pleased noise, licking his lips. “See, I told you it was good,” Alice said triumphantly. Glancing back at her husband, she added, “Thank you for your help, sweetie.”
“Happy to be of assistance,” Victor chuckled. “Though I’m almost sorry I won’t get to have any more of that.”
“Well, I actually have two jars of this. If you want to make yourself a piece of toast. . . .”

-J2: Star of EA's first M-rated game, and you make her adorably motherly.-
I can't help it, that's how she gets when she and Victor have kids. Anyway, this is another fic that looks like it's Solicitor's Ward-verse, but actually belongs to the world of Secundus. I knew immediately that I wanted to do a fic where Chester was refusing to eat when I saw this prompt, and I managed to write it all down pretty damn quickly. I forget if I chose peaches for the baby food for a reason other than "They're sweet."
-VM: Love how Victor's all too willing to gobble the stuff down.-
-TTV: *blushing* It doesn't sound half-bad, honestly. . . .-
*giggle* That's what I was going for -- Victor finding this to be a particularly tasty jam. I was a little iffy on giving Chester the ability to speak (wondered if it would make him seem just a pinch too old), but I decided to go for it. I mean, fussy toddlers are a way of life for mothers, right? And it appears Chester has inherited Mummy's stubbornness.
-VD2: Well, he had to get something besides the green eyes.-
Exactly. Not much else to say -- I didn't really edit this all this much when I got it typed. I think I managed to get down what I wanted to say. I hope it at least got a smile out of you. I like writing them as a big happy family. :)
-D: Well, considering Alice has to deal with a sequel coming up that clearly says she's due another bout of insanity, I'm sure she appreciates the mushy stuff. *pause* Er, no pun intended.-
*snork* I kind of wish I'd made it.

So yeah, there's your fic of the day! Now I'm off to watch an Alice demo or two.

I suppose it depends on what age the Victorians started their kids on solids. Nowadays, at least Anita's doctors, babies are started on the mush (still considered solids since it's not formula) at 6 months. Once the teeth come in and they're good at knowing how to chew and swallow, then they can eat more solid things like Cheerios for example. So if Chester's talking, he's older than that. Moreso if he understands what he's saying and not just shouting random things. Though he could be unusually bright, eh? :)

Cute story though.

Oh yeeps, I have no idea. Yeah, I imagined Chester to be about one-ish, which I suppose is still a good age for the mush. . . . *obviously needs to do more baby research*

Tanku. :D
