crossover_chick: picture of Alice (Wonderland) in front of the swirling purple Wonderland tunnel (AMA: Alice down the rabbit hole)

I've been a busy little beaver when it comes to celebrating. Observe:

-->Wore my official AMA shirt, and my Tim Burton's Alice Cheshire sweatshirt (it's been chilly lately)
-->Had a small waffle bowl of cake batter ice cream with M&Ms mixed in (yum)
-->Played Alice in her asylum in Restful Springs, and did updates for both her and Victor at the Restful Springs site. As usual, hers is the more interesting one.
-->Made a simple birthday graphic for my tumblrs -- not the best, but I like it anyway
-->Had Forgotten Vows give his Alice some cake and an umbrella, which she appreciated (yay for getting to play with Alice again a little)
-->Did the party for Alice over in the Inkwell -- Secundus Alice showed up and got a present too, just 'cause.
-->Had Butterfly Boy wish all the Alices he knows a happy birthday
-->Had Victor Plush wish his Alice a happy birthday on Twitter
-->Posted an Alice fic! Vorpal Blade -- I've been sitting on it for a while. I figured I'd clean it up a bit and put it out there in honor of the occasion.
-VD: Cripes, that's a lot.-
I know. And there's one more thing I'm gonna do -- post a 25 Foods!

22. Writer’s Choice: Apples
It annoyed Alice that, years after the incident, she still couldn’t help her reactions. That she’d still shudder at the smell of apple pie, or walk a tiny bit faster past an apple tree, or recoil slightly whenever a kindly neighbor would offer her a piece of the red fruit. She supposed she had a good reason to be nervous around apples – after all, a cursed one had nearly doomed her to eternal sleep, a fate worse than death. But it was still annoying.
Particularly in light of the fact her husband was very fond of the damn things.
Not that Victor was rude about it. Quite the opposite, really – he was almost too considerate. He ate apples rarely, and always out of her sight. If Alice hadn’t found the occasional core in the compost heap, she might not have known Victor ate apples at all. It was touching, in a way, how sensitive he was to her feelings.
Rather than making her feel better, however, his secrecy just made her feel worse. Why should her husband have to deprive himself just because she couldn’t get over something? He’d been trapped in the realms of the dead for ten years – the poor man deserved to eat his favorite fruit in peace. Not to mention she already had him checking all the fires three times before they went to sleep. . . .
Finally, she caught him in the garden with one, before he’d even started eating it. Victor promptly made to discard it, but Alice stopped him, plucking the apple out of his hand. She examined it for a long moment, trying not to think of a sweet crunch on her tongue, then sudden oblivion. Then she sighed and handed it back. “You shouldn’t hide these on my account,” she told him. “I’m really okay with other people eating them.”
“I just don’t want to upset you,” Victor said, fiddling with his tie.
“It upsets me more that I can’t get over this blasted phobia. If I could just think of something truly positive about apples, I’m sure I wouldn’t mind them so much.”
Victor looked at the apple thoughtfully for a long moment. Then he turned to her with a small, hopeful smile. “Well – without the one that cursed you, we might have never discovered we’re each other’s True Loves.”
It wasn’t enough to make her go out and buy a whole bushel of the fruit. But it was enough to tempt Alice into taking her first bite of an apple in over ten years. (With a kiss afterwards – just to be on the safe side.)

-VD2: Ah yes, the final albatross around your neck when it comes to NaNoWriMos.-
Hesh up. Yes, this is a "The Tale"-verse fic, in case you couldn't guess. It's based around two things: 1) Alice suffers briefly the fate of Snow White in a later chapter of the story; 2) I've always pictured Victor loving apples. Put them together with a sprinkling of angst and a dollop of fluff, and you get this.
-D: Not a bad little piece -- I could certainly see Alice being frustrated over such a thing.-
Yeah -- funnily enough, I think she sounds rather like a Madness Returns Alice here, despite the fact that I wrote it before I ever played the game. Brief psychic moment on my part, maybe. At any rate, this is really all about the fluff. I like the idea of Victor helping Alice get over her fears, and vice-versa. They always seem so adorable in those situations.
-TTV: I can already hear Forgotten Vows saying, "Well, THAT explains a lot. . ."-
LOL, it does. Not much else to say about it. The mention of Victor being in the lands of the dead for ten years is a reference to what happens at the end of the story -- it's Victor's punishment for defying Death for Alice's life. It's also a test of Alice's faithfulness, which she passes. One day, you'll get to see all this in person.
-M: Hey, don't they have Chester running around?-
They do, but he wasn't important for this story, so he stays off-screen. Have no idea if he likes apples or not.

Enjoy that final bit of Alice-mania -- I have tags to answer, then YouTube browsing to do.
