Tonight, I Saw The Amazing Spider-Man
Feb. 23rd, 2013 10:24 pmYou know, the reboot film from 2012? My thoughts?
I hated it.
Maybe it's because I really did like the first two Spider-Man films, and even thought the third wasn't all that bad. This one's tone is completely different -- more gritty and dark -- and it just didn't work for me. The main problem?
Peter's a goddamn asshole in this one.
I'm serious. Peter is an asshole. He's constantly mouthing off, constantly being a little shit -- and he nearly suffocates some people with his webbing! I also didn't like how he became a person of mass destruction after getting his powers. Maybe it's more realistic, but it wasn't more fun to watch. I really preferred Tobey's montage of getting used to things to Andrew's. I also didn't find Gwen Stacey all that interesting, and the romance? PAINFUL. The awkward half-sentences -- for the love of Pete, when you have more problems talking to a girl than VICTOR VAN DORT. . . I will give the movie this, at least he told her right away he was Spider-Man. And Gwen does try to stand up for herself rather than just being "Miss Kidnapped." Although when it comes to the climax -- why didn't she just SMASH part of the device the Lizard needed, rather than just steal it and hide?? Seriously, there were fridge logic moments GALORE in this film. It just didn't work.
And on a personal note, I DID NOT APPRECIATE THE "SPIDER RAIN" AND "SPIDER BITES" SCENES. Especially that last one, where Peter finds the string of silk coming form the bite. . . Eeeeeeugggghhhh. And then when he researches bites on WebMd! If I can't sleep tonight, I'm blaming it on that fucking movie! There is exactly ONE movie where I can stand seeing someone crawled on by spiders, AND THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ISN'T IT.
Okay, I should probably go do something to take my mind off that last bit. I keep touching the back of my neck. . . Maybe working more on Victor's Wonderland will help.
