I am so sick of this eternal cold spot we're stuck in right now. I mean, seriously -- no quarter, no mercy. Or, well, we do get mercy, but only for a day or two at a time, which makes it feel more like a tease. I don't want this to be another cool, dreary summer. I want sunshine and warmth and all that good stuff. :(

Not much to say about today -- put in more records at work, did a half-hour on the elliptical, got dust in DragonVale and kicked ass in Spellfall -- though I did come across something interesting. I'm reading a book of Terry Pratchett's short fiction, A Blink of the Screen, and it includes a story called "Final Reward." It's all about a barbarian hero that a writer dreamed up coming to the real world, and ending up fitting in much better than the writer ever imagined.

And the first thing I thought about was Doug Walker's offering for the shorts that made up Channel Awesome's 5th Anniversary, Dragonbored.

Granted, it's hardly an exact fit -- Doug's piece is for a much more modern setting (Terry's was published in 1988), and the writer of "Final Reward" is a lot more likeable than the gamer of "Dragonbored." And has a better relationship with his character. It just caught me off-guard to see the story and think, "Hang on. . ."

Incidentally, I can recommend A Blink of the Screen as much as any of Terry's other books -- it's got some great stuff in it, including his very first story, published when he was 13! There's even a section for Discworld shorts for us fans of that series. :)

And now that I've plugged my favorite author yet again, I really need to go to bed. Night!

The fact that I have to wear my winter coat so close to May is depressing. :/

The second Midnight came with the name Law. I changed it to Petrol. Here's my crazy fannish reason:

In the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard was moving between three periods in time (past, present, future). In the past, he asks one of the crewmen to do something in Engineering and, as it's going to take a long time, he tells the staff that they'll be "burning the midnight oil". Past!Data comes along takes him literally as at this time he hasn't had a lot of experience being around humans yet. After some funny banter about the ideology of the idiom, Picard asks Past!Data to help him do something and the android states that they would be required to "ignite the midnight petroleum".

So there. :p "Petroleum" fits but I thought shortening it sounded better, lol.

Although I doubt that this weekend will be a Double, I'm going to wait for the afternoon to collect anything just in case.

I had to email support because apparently they had some kind of glitch that reset the Breeding Hints people bought. I don't generally go into that menu so I probably never would've known if I hadn't, but now I do and I don't want those gems I spent on the hints to be wasted. I only emailed them this morning (I did complain on their Twitter and they did say to email them) so we'll see how they resolve things.

So if next weekend is the Double, thanks to my spending $25 for 2500 Dust I shall get the Weather Station by next Sunday. Saturday if I can get more than I calculated (via friends).

Hm...I think that's it.

Edit: Not a Double as predicted. And the wizards unlocked ALL my breeding hints (or, at least, the ones I had available...I'll see for sure next Bring 'Em Back) and gave me 50 gems, so that was nice.

In their words, "In preparation for a new update with some cool new features we unfortunately introduced a bug which reset Breeding Hints for some users. This occurred for about 4 hours on Friday so anyone who logged in during this time was affected. If you had 2 dragons of the same type in your park, that breeding hint was automatically unlocked again for you. Sadly, if you only had 1 dragon or you paid gems to unlock the hint, it would have remained locked."

Like I said it's not really THAT big of a deal, but it's the principle. Plus I got gems out of it, lol.
