Happy Birthday Rose!
Nov. 11th, 2015 08:46 amNormally I'd post this on tumblr, but as she hasn't been on that in a while and I know I can reach her on DW, well, here it is:
"They say that you know what comes after."
Victor started, then looked over the top of his paper to see a little girl staring at him with a very serious face. "I – beg your pardon?"
"When you arrived, Dickon told me about it," the girl continued, folding her arms across her chest. "About how you raised the dead once for a wedding. I thought it sounded like awful magic, but he says you were apparently trying to help a corpse bride? He lost the article that explained it all, sadly."
Ah – the Illustrated claims another victim, so to speak, Victor thought. Good thing Mother isn't here to get upset. Poor Mr. Craven doesn't need Nell Van Dort having a fit in his breakfast room! "That was me, yes," he confirmed, folding up his copy of the Times and setting it aside. "And I was, though it all started out as something of an accident. . .I – I assume you've l-lost someone, then," he added, fiddling with his fingers.
"My parents, though I don't care so much about them," the girl replied, before looking at her shoes. "Well – not about Mother, anyway. Father I hope is all right. But – it's my Aunt Lily I'd really like to know about. For my uncle's sake." She turned anxious eyes up to him, twisting a ribbon on her skirt. "Is – is the afterlife a good place? Does it look like our world at all? Is there any chance you could grow a garden?"
Victor smiled at the pale young thing. "Probably not the traditional type," he admitted, "but trust me, there's enough color and life down there to feed any growing plant." He carefully pushed out the chair opposite him with his foot. "Here – I'll tell you all about it."
Secret Garden/CB crossover because reasons -- and because I'm reasonably certain Mary would react like this to anyone who was said to have seen the afterlife. Victor's probably lucky Colin didn't get to him first; I can imagine him being rather more bratty in wanting to know. :p The time periods technically don't match up (SG being set sometime around the turn of the 20th century), but the nice thing about CB being so vague in when its set is that you can do things like this without worrying too much about it. Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Okay, in about forty minutes I'm off to the bus. . .though it's still not looking particularly friendly out, ick. :( Mom says it's supposed to clear up, so keep your fingers crossed!
