Zoo, Comic, Losing You, and Blue Sky
Apr. 15th, 2016 11:22 pmBreakdown of my day:
-->Hit the zoo today, as promised! It's different than what I remember -- a lot of the classic exhibits, like the polar bears, are gone -- but there was plenty that was still the same, and lots of good stuff still to see. Most of the animals were in "lounge around" mode, but a lot of the birds were up and moving, and the giant anteater came right up to the glass in his little home when we came to see him. We also got "early access" to a special exhibit on Australian parrots that technically opens tomorrow -- the zoo secretly opened it a day early to anyone who noticed and asked so the birds could get used to people without a huge crowd. $9 got us in with a little feeding stick -- basically a popsicle stick with some millet stuck to it -- and we hung out and fed the birds. All of us got a bird sitting the stick to eat at one point, which was cool. Also discovered the zoo has halfway-decent human food -- got a crispy chicken Caesar wrap for lunch and it was pretty yummy. Simple, but good. Good chili fries too. So that was fun.
-->Stopped by Newbury's on the way home because I wanted to see if they had the latest BTTF comic -- and they did, to my delight! Though it took help from one of the employees to find it. It's a trip -- Marty's not taking having to live a normal life well after the events of the movie, and then a letter comes from Clara saying Doc's vanished into the future. . . There's all sorts of little references and jokes about trilogy stuff (George, for example, is not interested in Zemeckis turning his book into a movie), and I'm liking that Jennifer's getting a more active role in things. Between this and the Game, the current state of BTTF expanded universe stuff seems to be, "She's NOT just 'The Girlfriend.'" :) Looking forward to see where this goes!
-->Got home, and decided to do the vacuuming while my parents took a walk so I didn't have to bother with it tomorrow. After that was supper, and after that more of "Losing You." Victor's chatting with Dr. Wilson, explaining the climax of the movie -- I may alter this before it goes up, but it works for a first draft of the new stuff. It's nice to see them getting along so well -- and I have plans for Wilson to compare Victor's Land of the Dead experience to Alice's Wonderland (since he believes it was a trip taken entirely within Victor's own head), so that's cool. I like this and I wish I'd thought of it earlier. Ah well, benefit of hindsight. . .
-->And then I was going to do the RP thing. . .but I got distracted by wanting to look up a certain Portal 2 fanfic, "Blue Sky", on TV Tropes briefly, and -- yeah, it quickly became apparently that what I really wanted to do tonight was read that and generally mess around on the web. Took me a while to properly accept it, but I have, and I'm just taking the night off. It's my long weekend and I can do that if I want to. :P
And now -- well, back to mucking about, really. Because long weekend. Night all!
