crossover_chick: Victor on the ground with one hand up with the text "Nooo! Anything but the fangirls!" (CB: save Victor from the fangirls!)

I've been a little remiss this year in catching my 10:04s, but I figured I needed to make the effort for the last day of the main BTTF calendar (aka what we see in the movies). Marty's off to 1885 to almost run into some Indians, as you do. :P I may be rather more into Corpse Bride and Alice these days, but there's always going to be a part of me that loves BTTF more than anything. As evidenced by the fact that it shows up so regularly in my multifandom AUs!

The trend of kinda "meh" days continues, I'm afraid -- dull day at work with that damn file, and a long ride home courtesy of a big accident on the highway. Commuting is tough, man -- especially when you've finished your latest book AND your iPad's battery is low. Fortunately I am the kind of person who can keep herself entertained by staring out the window. . . Speaking of the book, I have finally finished the last Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown! It's another of Tiffany Aching's, and -- you know, the afterword speaks of other ideas Terry had, including a sequel to The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents and a new Watch novel, but I think on some level he knew this was the last one.

I don't think he would have let Granny Weatherwax DIE otherwise.

Yup -- right at the beginning of the book too. The main plot is Tiffany having to handle her steading (basically, being the top witch for Lancre) as well as her duties on the Chalk, all while a power upset in Fairyland means a new invasion of elves and Tiffany having to teach the deposed Queen a better way. It's good, as all of Pratchett's stuff -- but I can believe the afterword's comment that it's not as finished as Terry would have liked. It doesn't flow quite as smoothly as some of his other novels -- there's a sense that not all the loose ends are tied up as tight as they should. And I'm still a touch bitter about Tiffany and Roland's relationship getting derailed. The guy appears once, and only to make an ass of himself (without meaning to, but still). I like Preston, her new love interest, fine, but after Wintersmith and Roland against the bogles. . .it was a tough act to follow.

For all that, though, it's a good send-off to the series. Magrat gets to come into her own again in the fight against the elves, and I like the interactions between Tiffany and deposed Queen Nightshade. It brings the five books nicely full-circle. And the climax is wonderful -- Terry ALWAYS knew how to write a climax. I'd say it's as worth reading as any of his others.

Fortunately for me, I do already have another book lined up -- and it's Pratchett again! One of his other books, called Truckers. I think I've already read the short story it was based on, so I'm looking forward to the expanded version. :)

Okay, that's the big thing of note today -- I've gotta get my queue for Butterfly Boy done. Night all!
