Gingerbread Saturday
Nov. 10th, 2018 11:27 pmWe watched two more episodes of the "Haunted Gingerbread Showdown" today -- so far, the best episode has been the second one, as that one featured the best artists. Everyone else has been -- competent, but not truly AMAZING. This one guy, though, on the second episode -- his faces were PHENOMENAL. Like living cartoons made from modeling chocolate and fondant and gingerbread. :D There was also a very skilled cookie artist, but she was kind of a bitch, so I'm glad she lost. And on the third episode, there was an architect guy who did some pretty incredible prep work for a house (making tiny columns and hand-cutting minuscule gingerbread bricks and HAND-LAYING them on his structural sheets) -- but he didn't pack his stuff properly, so a lot of it got broken. And then he proved to be a total drama queen, which -- meh. Tomorrow (or possibly Monday, depending on how much football we watch) is the grand finale -- I hope the faces guy wins. He's the coolest of the bunch. :)
We also got gingerbread cookies today! My mom was making sure her recipe was sound, as she plans to make a batch for Thanksgiving. It's actually kind of important, as we're having people over, for the first time in ages -- my aunt and uncle. Mom's game plan is to make some pizzas (we almost never have traditional turkey on Thanksgiving, since we have it so much other times of the year) and other nibbly things, along with apple turnovers and the cookies. My aunt happens to be vegan, so making sure she has stuff she can eat is important. Mom thought the first batch turned out a bit dry, but I was satisfied with the cookie I got. Possibly because it was so hot (fresh out of the oven) that it steamed itself soft again. XD Ah well -- cookies are cookies, and I like gingerbread cookies. Tis the season, after all.
Most of the rest of my day was spent cleaning -- my room and the living room (at Mom's request). I did find the time for a few other things, though:
-->Edited another chunk of "The Technicolor Phase" -- Lizzie Green, where Lizzie meets Emily. Turned out pretty well, although there is a bit of "summarize what just happened in the Victor Yellow chapter" -- I tried to keep it fresh! Almost to the point where I'm going to have to fill in a couple of new shorts. Well, I'm planning to skip the Thanksgiving update because holiday, so that'll get me a slight buffer -- though maybe I should just take a little hiatus starting then, get the shorts written, and then go ahead. Might make more sense.
-->Played some BioShock Infinite -- fought my way to the tools in the Impound area (somehow managing to not to die in a pretty intense firefight), realized that we had no way to transport said tools (which were, in truth, very large pieces of machinery) -- and then a tear opened up and we overwrote reality again! Seriously, entering tears and skipping to a new reality where things are more favorable for us seems to be the main way Booker and Elizabeth solve problems these days. Though they're in a rather interesting reality at present -- seems like Booker came to Columbia, legitimately joined the Vox Populi (as opposed to being strong-armed into helping Daisy Fitzroy), and died a martyr to their cause. I suspect we're going to have some interesting problems with people wondering how the martyr is suddenly alive again. (And if we don't, missed storytelling opportunity, seriously). Also, Hand Cannon is best gun, never giving it up.
-->Watched Helloween's newest "Castlevania Saturday" entry -- Portrait of Ruin! Stars two teenagers -- one the weapons specialist, one the magic specialist -- going off to help save the day after World War II drags Dracula's castle back into the world. They're doing this via entering magical paintings to reduce the influence another vampire is having on the castle. It looks interesting so far, and the opening cinematic was amazing, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. :)
-->Also watched the latest Atop The Fourth Wall -- the "secret origin" of Black Panther! Which was a comic about him luring the Fantastic Four there so he could test his skills in defeating them to see if he was ready to take on a villain of his own, only to be defeated because some Native American guy who slept a lot and was Johnny Storm's roommate at college came along for the ride and managed to free the captured members of the Four via his innate tracking skills. ...Look, it was the 1960s when this thing was written. It was actually a pretty good comic, just -- you know, a touch 60s. "Casual racism/sexism" as Linkara put it.
-->And I got up Northern Lights for "Scenes From Secundus" while tackling my VictorLuvsAlice queue. Gotta love any short that lets me gush about Tundraful's night sky. :)
Huh -- did more than I thought this Saturday. Well, good, gotta keep the productivity up. Speaking of which, I AM doing the RP thing (though it's a bit slow tonight), and I've got some comments waiting in the inbox, so I should get on that. Night all!
